It was noted at the ecotourism sites in Kerala for the ecological importance of the Peppara wildlife refuge. Peppara that is blessed with evergreen tropical, semi-green and mixed lagoon forests with moist spread over a 53-acre area. A fun picnic area is the dam Peppara which is across the Karamana River. The landscape is characterized by thick forests, terrain that is rocky, lush fauna, the sparkling rivers. In the sanctuary, there are approximately 13 tribes. Such groups live in a peaceful climate, as the authorities sanctuary secure them. Numerous wild species in the area that are exciting for safari and types of adventures. You can also read the best places to visit in Kerala during monsoon. Peppara has 43 mammal species, 233 bird species, 46 reptilian species, 13 amphibian species, and 27 fish species. To birdwatchers and also to the butterfly lovers, it is particularly attractive. Many seasons there is more easy to find birds and butterflies. The guides and watchtowers allow you to explore the rare beauty. Discover the beautiful scenery. Treks need the forestry department’s prior permission. Kerala Tourism recently made a joint effort to improve the barrier site and offer more entertainment & leisure facilities with the state forestry department and Kerala water authority. Lion’s Safari park, hill station at Ponmudi, Kallar, Anapara are also ecotours to the city. Experience the natural beauty that too without harming the environment and the communities living in it.

Good road through forest area. Enough parking space... vistors must take umbrella on sunny days... snacks items are available at the shop near the entry gate. you can easily spend 1hr over there.. dam view is awesome.. dam hut is slighty damged... if the clouds are not so heavy you can see the famous Agasthyarkoodam hills from the dam.

You are not allowed to bring camera with you. You are not allowed to hike ( even though there are trails!!!!) . You are not allowed to spend more than hour ( it’s impossible to spot any animals within such short period of time! RIDICULOUS!!!) I went there to spend a day with a wildlife and I could not be more disappointed. Guard unfriendly and rude. Don’t bother, it’s not worth money you need to put into taxi ( government of Kerala does not allow foreign citizens use public transport in the area even if there is any - I don’t think so though). All that stupid rules due to unclear‘security’ ( I was trying to ask some specifics but they just wave on me as ‘ get out of here stranger, we don’t wanna deal with you’. Strongly not recommended.

A good place for an outing with family and friends, the road that leads to the dam offers great scenery on either sides and the good thing is that the entry to the dam is totally free the only thing you have to do is write your name and address in the visitors log book kept at the entrance and you are good to go

Heaven for nature lovers. Not much to do here except for exploring inner forest regions . I really loved the vibe spent 5 days exploring the inner regions by foot.

Peppara wildlife sanctuary is a fascinating tourist spot situated in the outskirts of Thiruvananthapuram. Named after the Peppara dam, the wildlife sanctuary is spread across an area of 75 sq. kms, and is covered with evergreen forests, freshwater swamps, hills and valleys. The thick forest of Peppara houses a rich variety of animals including elephants, sambar deer and lion tailed macaque. Many endemic bird species like Malabar Grey Hornbill, White-bellied Treepie, and Small Sunbird have also found a home here. With the rich flora and fauna, and the rocky terrain, Peppara is truly a haven for the nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts.

Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary is a **wildlife sanctuary** located in Thiruvananthapuram district of Kerala, India ¹². It is spread across an area of **53 sq. km** and is home to a variety of flora and fauna ³. The sanctuary is situated on the outskirts of the capital city Thiruvananthapuram and is slowly turning into a location frequented by wildlife enthusiasts. Herds of elephants, gaur, sambar, barking deer, and wild boar can be seen here ¹. Endemic species like the Malabar Grey Hornbill, White-bellied Treepie, and the Small Sunbird have also been sighted here ¹. Peppara Dam is where the sanctuary got its name from and the trek here gives one a gorgeous panoramic view of the entire valley. It is a quaint little picnic spot that is attracting more visitors with each passing year ¹. The trek to Vazhvanthol falls in Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary offers one of the best trekking options in the capital city. This trek starts from Kaanithara, near Vithura and the initial trek through eucalyptus plantations could be easy. This 5 km not so hard trekking to Vazhvanthol is an amazing experience. A guide will accompany you for this one-day trekking programme ¹. According to reviews on **Tripadvisor**, Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary is a must-visit place in Thiruvananthapuram. Visitors have appreciated the natural beauty of the place and have described it as a "fabulous picturesque" location ⁴⁷⁸. However, some visitors have also pointed out that there are no toilet or drinking water facilities available at the sanctuary ⁷. Overall, Peppara Wildlife Sanctuary is a great place to visit for nature lovers and wildlife enthusiasts alike. The sanctuary offers a unique opportunity to experience nature at its best and to get away from the hustle and bustle of city life.

A perfect place for a one day trip. Enough place for parking. No entry fee. Road from Vithura to Peppara is good. Google map shows other shortest routes. But roads are not that good. No rest room facilities and not enough restaurants available nearby.

Nice place to spend an evening enjoying the beauty of the beaty of the lake and surrounding greeneryAkkulam Lake is the oldest tourist place in Trivandrum. It is located in the outskirts of Trivandrum city. It has a tourist village nearby with pathways for walking. There is a small children’s park and a swimming pool. Boating is the major attraction. The ride to the sanctuary is absolutely beautiful. Try to go for an early morning bike ride to the place enjoying the chilling fresh air and the lush green forest. Entry to the sanctuary and dam is from 9 to 5.30 and no cameras are allowed inside the gate.

There's nothing much to do at Peppara, except walk over the dam. And that is just an average experience. There used to be an eco tourism project there with trekking, tree huts, bamboo rafts etc. But that is not available now. The rafts and tree huts were reportedly ruined during COVID lockdowns. Now only the dam is open to the public. Although technically off-limits, people are seen wandering a bit over the nearby forest area. Overall, you can spend an hour or so only if you happen to be passing by that route - for Kallar or Ponmudi. Even then, it doesn't really offer much.

Nice place to hangout with friends on weekend around Trivandrum. Ample parking space available. No entry fees. Only need to add your name and contact address in the office register. First reach Vithura KPSM junction and use Vithura - Peppara dam road. Better to avoid other shorter routes in google maps.

You can spend a whole day with family watching the dam and the placid lake disturbed only by raptors who wheel around the blue sky waiting for the perfect moment for the dive, for the kill. Beyond, your eyes fall on the rich foliage on the banks of the lake. In earlier days the English men had plantations deep inside the woods. They traversed up along these woods to places like Braimore, Ponmudi, Bonacaud, and Athirumala where they had tea and coffee estates. There were few vehicles, so they rode up the hills on their horses, leaving behind tracks, which are still visible inside the forest in patches.
