As residents of this area we don’t like the hikers parking near our homes. There is ample parking along the fence on California Ave. as you come up to the residential area. It is by the opening for the Army training area. It is a short walk up to the trail. Be mindful for all the residents up here who want to have available parking for their family and friends. The Bus comes up here too so we can’t block both sides of the street.

Friends dragged me here to ride the river but I had no idea there was a hike involved. The hike starts with a steep descent through a bunch of paper bark trees where you use their roots as steps, it's very steep. After that, you walk along a root-covered trail (be careful not to roll your ankle like I did) through the forest having to duck under and climb over fallen trees several times. We went around the trail counter-clockwise and about 1/3 through there's a really cool river crossing where someone has a little taro farm growing. After that there's a long hike up and down steep hills covered in tree roots, there's lots of places to rest at least. At the halfway point of the trail there's a path that leads down to the river, that's what we did, it's extremely steep and the tree roots mostly are gone for this part, there's a lot of sliding down steep hills on your butt because there's nothing to grab onto. The river itself isn't great for floating down because about half of the river is so shallow you have to get up and walk across slippery rocks, at least in June it's that shallow. Still fun and beautiful though.

Great for a local hike and public hunting! Trails are easily identifiable and navigable, however, there are several paths and easy to get disoriented. Phone signal is limited, so don't trust it for GPS. Rememebr that moss grows on the north side of trees, and Wahiawa is west. The trails are a tanglefoot of roots, but don't let thar deter you. Just watch your footing and enjoy the beautiful, lush jungle vegetation throughout. I recommend a walking stick. Parking is challenging. Some neighbors don't like you parking in front of their house, but it's a public street. Check out the videos and pics. Hit the HELPFUL button if this was beneficial. This was a very enjoyable hike and wasn’t like any other hike I had been on on Oahu. We hiked this trail counterclockwise and I’d say that’s the best way to do it. The hike is easy to get lost on because there are so many random turns and trails that lead to the army base. I would suggest keeping your trail app out on your phone so that you don’t get lost. It was fairly difficult but a lot easier than most ridge hikes on the island.

Great place to hike with the family. There is no parking so street side residential is your only option. Overall a fun relaxing hike with clean air and no crowds.

A nice well shaded hike. Beware, the critical habitat is very judgemental. Not for the thin-skinned. Haven't gotten more than 2.5 miles in yet so it could be even better. Looking forward to the next go round.

Beautiful hike, until we got lost. What’s weird was that both At&t and Verizon led us to the jungle when we surface up to the pave road. My friends and I, made it all the way down to the trail and it was fine, it was the coming up and we got lost so we used both maps to find the way out and it was directing to the jungle, so we had help to use the all trails app on my iPhone to redirect us back to our car safely! That was a weird hike and first time up there. I can’t believe both our phones pointed towards the jungle. Anyhow, it’s not a bad hike it’s just not good to be lost there and we’ve seen empty bullets on the pave road and on the trails too. Across from the trail it’s the military training property. So it’s not a safe hike but it is a beautiful rainforest but it’s easier to get lost in there.

What a beautiful hike, hardly any people at this place.Lots shades. Hike is moderately. You can easily get lost at this hike so be cognizant when hiking as cell service is NOT available- Verizon, T-Mobile, AT&T. Adjacent is where the US military training camp where you’ll find lots of empty bullets . Overall, this place is amazing!!!

Have to have permits to go hike on the land. Small sign will let you know which ones, trail borders military base so be careful what you do.

I’m definitely a beginner when it comes to hiking so this trail was pretty hard for me. Lots of steep changes in elevation in the beginning and the end portion of the loop of the trail, which was killer. Bring hydration and a snack. Maybe it was worse for us since we went after it rained so it was suuuper muddy and slippery; I wouldn’t go after it rains if I were to do it again. Note that there isn’t specific parking for this trail and that this trail is also used by hunters (we met some), so keep an eye out. It was beautiful.

Gorgeous trails some areas took a total due to the rain fall, but still clear trails. Once way from the road sounds Dissipate and nature takes over so peaceful.
