Beautiful beach! The beach can be dangerous Auckland’s West Coast beaches are beautiful but can be dangerous. Each year several people drown here and hundreds have to be rescued. Visitors must be aware of the dangers and take steps to ensure their own safety. Visit Surf Life Saving NZ – stay safe (external site) for more information on beach safety. Take care on the track Track crosses private land. Keep to the track and be careful around stock. Parts of the track may be overgrown with gorse and flax. Be aware of dangers on the tracks and surrounding areas including clifftops

This beach has so much to offer. Go for a nice long walk on the beach to the cave or sit and get mesmerized by the waves. they will be upgrading the carpark soon. or walk to your left and up the dune over to O’neill’s beach for a surf. You will come back refresh. only 20 min away from Massey. Beautiful information boards has been added and I just love this poem .

Great beach, looks beautiful with the black sand. Can get a bit crowded during holidays, especially the carpark. The road to the beach is quite narrow and can be tricky when there are vehicles travelling in both directions.

Beautifully large beach with a cool cave at the bottom! During the off season, there aren’t too many people here and you can wander wherever you please. Parking can get tricky during weekends or summer months though. Great place for photography as well.

We stopped by Bethells on the way back from the Te Henga walk to O'Neill Bay. We went through the path that connects O'Neill Bay to Bethells Beach. It was interesting that there looked like there was a house on the Island at Bethells. We rested here a bit by the cliff close to the island. There wasn't much shade on the beach though so it would be wise to bring something if you were planning on staying a while. The beach itself was quite nice and large and there were lifeguards on duty. You do need to cross some water to get to the island side of Bethells but it wasn't very deep. The water was also quite warm, compared to the sea. The caves around the cliff by the river was quite interesting, some were big enough to easily walk in. The sand did get quite hot, particularly away from the beach so just be wary of that as you head in/out.

Great family beach! It’s quite crowded, parking might be an issue during weekends in summer. But other than that, it’s a beautiful located beach, can explore caves and different areas.

First time at a black sand beach and it looked very cool. We came to have a picnic and the weather was great! The sun really heated up the sand so be careful if you're walking barefoot. There's a designated area for picnics which was nice. The waves looked huge from where I was and saw lots of surfers walk by. A really beautiful beach⛱️
