It was my first time to try a track in West Auckland and it was really breathtaking — literally and figuratively, as the first hour was filled with stairs and a slightly steep walk. Quite manageable but best to start early when the sun is not shining hot and bright yet. Amazing views of the beach would peak in the track from time to time. The end of the track came as an abrupt surprise, as you’d suddenly be faced with the decision of whether to continue with the Mercer Bay Loop track or take the Ahu Ahu track. Opted for the latter; it was much easier through Ahu Ahu rather than going back the same way. Anyway, gorgeous coastal walk that’s definitely worth a try 👍

Beautiful track, way less crowded than mercer bay loop walk. Prefer it actually. No fools walking with speakers, can see the views without waiting for people to take selfies. A good walk if you're wanting to get steps and views in. Plus good view of the beach at the end.

Good walk, quite steep to begin with but the views are gorgeous. Make sure you go through mercer bay loop at the end too and if you don't want to backtrack going through ahu ahu on the way back is all downhill. Dogs allowed on leash 😊

A nice trail with some super views of the West Coast. There are a few stairs to climb to start and it's worth having reasonable tread on shoes as the downhills are steep. My kids 6 & 8 years were pretty comfortable with the walk taking stops for water and peanut butter sandwiches 😆.

A fantastic day hike which can be combined with the Mercer Bay Loop to walk from Piha to Karekare or vice versa. Great views from the cliffs above the wild and rugged coastline.

Beautiful well maintained track. No mud even after rainy day. Done it in 2.5 hours with stops to take pictures and enjoy the view.
