I have to say I don't always do well with museums, normally popping my head in and not staying long. This one however is rammed with fascinating artifacts old, modern and everything in-between. I could have happily spent the whole weekend in there. Fab cafe too in a lovely little courtyard. We paid for the additional exhibition which was well worth the money. Everything has an English explaination so non German speakers can still understand what you are looking at. Amazing place and amazing helpful staff.

It's a wonderful museum. There is so much history and interesting exhibitions here. Lots of English explanations, thought-provoking pieces, places to sit and contemplate, and staff to help you. It covers the past, present, and future 9f Frankfurt in a well laid out manner. You can take portable seats with you if needed. The artworks are very impressive, too. It also uses many modern technology methods. Well worth the entry fee. Toilets and lockers available, as well as cafe & gift shop. Minimum of 2-3 hours needed

Great museum, lots of exhibits. Very complicated to get around. It was free to visit. I’m not sure if it’s always free, but I recommend visiting it. There is also a museum for kids attached. Would have liked more information in English for certain parts.

713/23: I enjoyed learning about Frankfurt's history. The museum is educational & full of artifacts & things to look at. Learning about Frankfurt's history made me appreciate the city more than if I knew nothing about its past.

Mixed experience, two floors of different lectures/exhibitions of democracy, inclusiveness etc. One (lower floor) actual history, Even that part was somewhat unfocused, presented with educational agendas and difficult to follow. Almost every display texts in English, big plus in Germany. Small shop, variable art displays, cafeteria. Felt more like educational center than museum.

Well-planned and excellently displayed collections. I especially enjoyed the exhibit on Margot Frank, sister if Anne Frank. The gigantic, robotic snow globe is fascinating. I could have spent hours looking at it

Great museum about the history of Frankfurt, starting in the high medieval period with excavations in the basement and the royal insignia of the German emperors, up to modern times. The museum is structured in different sections. It is very big and you definitely need the map to get around more easily. You can easily spend 4+ hours inside. I found the collectors museum particularly fascinating which displays the collections of private individuals that were donated to the museum.

A beautiful museum with a lot of things to discover about the history of Frankfurt or Germany. Located at the center of the city, easy to access, even for people with disabilities, kid-friendly because they have a dedication place for them to play. There is a bar, toilets and lockers to leave your things while you're visiting. There it shows how the city is developed and of course beautiful pieces of art too. Highly recommended.

A stunning museum that does not flinch away from harsh reality. A must if you are visiting the city and are in any way interested in the past. I was particularly charmed by the Collector’s museum where you see private donated collections and learn about the people who donated them.

I’ll save you some time- if you want to read every description 10 times in order to *sort of* understand the information being portrayed, this is the place for you! If you want to be tailed by museum staff watching over your shoulder the whole time, this is the place for you! If you want to be extremely confused by the layout of the museum, wandering up and down the steps searching for exhibits, this is the place for you! There is honestly very little history that has to do with Frankfurt as a city here (besides the basement). Most of it is about the lives and travels of the people who donated their collections to the museum. As stated by others, the reception staff is weirdly unhelpful and rude. I have no idea who runs this place, but I know they have a disdain for anyone coming here. It’s like they went out of their way to make this a bad museum. The interactive display in the basement is pretty cool, though. 2 stars.

Lots of great displays and only 8€! We spent a good 2 hours here, but could have spent longer if we read each display. Definitely worth a visit! Check out some of my photos attached to this review...

Pretty bad experience overall. Not English friendly, not worth the price, and the staff were a bit rude. When going through the collector's hall I was followed (quite closely it seemed) by a staff member who must've thought I was going to break everything or something. They never did this to any of the German visitors, which bothered me. There was an event (I believe a benefactor meeting) going on in a different wing of the building so I was unable to visit half of the building. It was a pretty ridiculous experience overall and I would not recommend going until they make some changes to how they do business.

A must see if you’re in Frankfurt. This museum was far bigger than I expected with so many great collections and exhibits. The best part is simply wandering around and finding hidden gems like the cellar downstairs or the bottom of the tower. The entire place is tastefully curated with lots of local history. Plan on spending a good 3-4 hours at a minimum if you want to truly enjoy this place. The staff is very friendly and English is widely spoken and written throughout the museum.

(Translated by Google) Actually a great museum, but the great snow globe could be much more informative, e.g. with additional acoustic information. An interesting video on the hour was also announced on the upper floors. But after a long wait this did not start. When asked, we had to find out that this hadn't worked for a week. It would be nice if at least one would inform the customer who would otherwise have waited long in vain.

Some really nice bits to this museum, especially the old maps and models of old town Frankfurt-- just to see that is worth the visit. Honestly there is a headaching amount of information and text to read, so you can come a few times. The main issues are some very impolite and intrusive staff, as well as the layout of the museum being very complicated to navigate. There isn't a clear path to follow and you tend to always walk back the way you came.

There is more to see here than you think. Local history and donated collections from benefactors. Some old art. The frankfurt 'then' display was interesting.

(Translated by Google) Unfortunately a chaos exhibition. Lots of extremely interesting individual pieces, yes, but colorfully thrown together on two floors. Sure there is a super great and highly intellectual concept behind it, but unfortunately I didn't get it. You go from exhibit to exhibit, from display case to display case, reading a long explanatory text here and there, but there is no real connection - except for the fact that everything has something to do with Frankfurt. Maybe it would have been better with AudioGuide? But that wasn't offered at the cash register. Senior ticket? "There is not any." Far too much and far too narrowly placed, or is a part from the closed front house of the museum now on display here? When buying the ticket, there is no indication that half of the museum is closed, so it is not possible to visit the 500-year-old rent tower and the hall chapel. But still everything for the standard price of 12 € (with special exhibition). After all, the toilets are worth recommending! Clean and new. And as a former employee of Dresdner Bank you are also happy about the display case with the counter in the typical DreBa design.

Amazing museum and an essential part of a trip to Frankfurt. The museum covers the history of the city, showing step by step how the city has grown and changed over time. There is also a floor dedicated to contemporary Frankfurt, which is a social history. The old palace ruins underneath the museum are fascinating and a wonderful example of how historical sites can be integrated with modern buildings. It's an immersive experience walking over the excavated foundations! As a tourist the museum is especially accommodating in that all of the signs are in both German and English, with no abbreviations or omissions. The special exhibition at the time we visited was about Frankfurt under National Socialism. A fascinating if unashamedly harrowing examination of the city's past, and a reminder of how easily fascism can rise to power.

a fascinating and excellently organized museum! definitely worth a visit, and you can spend an hour or a whole afternoon and still it will be worth your time. museum is also super accessible, with a mix of exhibit styles including lots of touch and audiovisual exhibits. also lots of seats in and around the space which i appreciated as i have issues standing for long periods. definitely pay a visit even if you don't think it's going to be interesting, cause you will find something to fascinate you!

Very disappointing museum. We were excited about learning of the Frankfurt and Germany’s history. Instead, there was a mix of different objects, most of them without any explanation. 2 floors out of 4 were closed, but the lady who sold tickets did not mention it. The only reason my rating is not lower is that maybe it was our bad luck and those 2 floors were awesome.

The museum was super boring. Nothing to do and nothing to watch. From Frankfurt I didn't expect such a not interesting museum. 16 € for two tickets so much expensive. Not recommended to no one. Better give this money for homeless.

Great museum near the center of the Old city. Amazing historic neighborhood around the museum. Inside the exhibit is very nicely organized. The special exhibit of women's suffrage was very interesting. The history of Frankfurt is fascinating and has so much information. The museum is reasonably priced. It has a cafe on the bottom floor, with lockers for coats. It costs €1 which is returned after you leave.

I was really excited. A single visit was not enough to see and explore everything properly. I found the special exhibition against racism, resistance and empowerment particularly impressive ... We'll be back. Definitely recommendable! (Original) Sehr schönes Museum! Viele interessanten und interaktiven Exponaten, die unseren 12-jahrigher Töchter viel Spaß bereiteten . The collection is excellent. But the layout is very confusing. It took me three hours to look for the famous crown exhibition. I asked three museum staff and still didn't manage to see it. The museum cafe is rubbish. I asked for water as it's the one of hottest day in Europe. It was €2 for a medium glass of water. I was try to ask if I could refill tap water with my water bottle. The staff's face expression stopped me asking for it. The bag locker is in the basement. You have to store your bag there to be able to walk around. You also have to wear a sticker to show which ticket option you bought. You can't just show your ticket.

I really liked this exhibition. It was large so if you want to see everything, I’d book in 2-4 hours to see it all. Really cool artifacts that enable the alongside descriptions to tell the larger history of Frankfurt. Definitely worth a visit to the top floor of “Frankfurt today” – really cool model of Frankfurt with reused materials like phones and remotes.
