I went to 10, yes 10, museums in Philadelphia over MLK Day Weekend 2022. This was by far my favorite! This Museum was recently built, and is beautiful both inside and out. The exhibits are well made, interesting, and Interactive. They have a collection of artifacts that you can't see anywhere else. My only regret is not spending more time there. The sights were cool, but staff are the real gems. You can ask almost anyone about the artifacts or displays and they will be able o give you more information. The shining star was Kaitlin, who shared background on her favorite pieces in the downstairs gallery. I'm not really even a history person, but her passion for the artwork was contagious. Thanks for an amazing explanation, girl! 👍🏾

This museum is beautiful, new, and very well done. While there are not a ton of exhibits, we were very impressed with what we saw here today. Highly recommend a visit if you're in the area.

The experience was wonderful, and my son and I now have a family membership! The Cross Keys Cafe didn't have period-inspired food as stated, but the lunch was satisfactory regardless and the cashier was very polite. The Museum itself was so inspiring and was full of artifacts and antiques, with a lot of deep information. The artwork was breath-taking. Unfortunately I was late for something else so we had to stop just shy of seeing Washington's War Tent, but we'll be back soon for that! Definitely no time wasted here, it's something you would need multiple trips to fully enjoy, and it really is worth it.

This is a really well-done museum with an easy-to-follow chronological path to follow. There are several theatrical elements, including animations to watch or stories played out on repeat. In fact, you can start your tour with a 15 minute movie downstairs, and there's an actual theater upstairs with the museum's prize item, Washington's camp tent from the revolutionary war. There's a whole theatrical presentation to that and a big reveal, it's fun. There's also a big gift shop and a cafe, it's well worth a visit!

We bought tickets at the independence visitor center so it was cheaper and we got to avoid the line at the museum too. This museum has put together so many exhibits and shows that were very engaging. The staff here are really passionate and very helpful. We started our tour with the film viewing at Lenfest Myer theater, but the best show here is viewing of "Washington's war tent" in the Alan theatre, happening every hour. The moment of revealing the tent was breathtaking, it's a must for everyone. Among the exhibits on the second floor, I liked the privateer ship, oneida nation gallery with life sized replicas.

This is the best American Revolution museum I’ve ever been to because if it’s mix of things to read, listen too, watch, look at and interact with. The layout of the building is perfect because there is a grand entrance with a beautiful staircase and then you enter a room. You loose track of where you are in the walls of the museum because the exhibits is a big timeline and every major event has its own room. I could spend days in this museum with its mix of modern and old ways of learning and presentation. Genuine artifacts and paints such as Washington’s tent, and great performances and documentaries. To sum it up I absolutely love this museum and it is perfect to visit directly after Independence Hall so that you can learn about the events that took place where you previously were!

I'm not much of a history buff, but I found this museum pretty engaging. I went with a group of history classmates here, and we had fun. The exhibits were really cool, I especially liked the clay figures they had on display around the main exhibit. They're incredibly realistic. If you're interested in history, I'd definitely recommend here.

We arrived at about 11:00 AM and weren’t quite finished by closing at 5:00. Our lunch break was only a cup of coffee and a shared pretzel since we didn’t want to spend the time. The cafeteria and the bookstore had great offerings, but if you are like us and read everything, you will definitely need all day. The docents recommended coming in Fall rather than Spring on weekdays when the school groups arrive. I am a student of the Revolution and still learned a great deal about the background, causes, and conflicts leading up to the war. Really loved the interactive displays and the privateer ship. Don’t miss the film about Washington’s Tent! Ask questions, the docents have lots of stories to tell and they are good at it. Recommend for all ages. Under 10 might need to be encouraged to interact, but there is stuff there for them. I wish there was a little more about the war in the Southern Colonies, but otherwise very complete.

A must see museum if you’re in philadelphia. The exhibits were all so well thought out. There’s a themed play area for the kids in the lower level that encourages lots of historical imagination and the children’s books available in that area were also well chosen. The staff were all next level kind and helpful. We frequently visit museums and have been to many, the American Revolution museum quickly became a family favorite. It perfectly aligns with the inclusive history i make an effort to teach our kids with points of views from marginalized groups like African Americans, the indigenous tribes, and women of that time. Super well done.

This museum goes surprisingly into depth about the American Revolution with an enormous amount of artifacts with notes and videos relating to the artifacts. There is also an inclusion of the contributions of African-Americans and Native-Amerixans to the war. The Staff are very nice here and help explain the information or answer questions.

I say this not having been to any of the Smithsonian museums in years, but this is easily my favorite museum. We've only gone the one time, part of the sneak peak before it officially opened, but oh my, it's incredible. The only reason we haven't returned is because our kids are too young. Just an utterly sublime experience here. Admittedly, I teach history, but my wife was just as captivated by it as I was. It's a museum you definitely want to plan multiple trips for, as there's simply so much to see you likely won't see it all in one go. Really, I cannot say enough good things about the place. Some of the exhibits are constant, others are rotated out and in, so you'll see something new no matter how many times you visit. The food court is a bit pricey (but what museum cafeteria isn't) but surprisingly good. The historical actors were hilarious too (in a good way).

Incredibly impressive!!!! A must for history lovers!!! The educators are so splendid, knowledgeable, engaging, and friendly. The displays are wonderful, especially the interactive ones. We spent 5 hours there and loved every single minute of it!!!! There is so much I learned about the extraordinary start of this country, the good and bad. A special shout out to Katie in the Cross Keys Café, one of the nicest people I ever met! Can't wait to go back!!!

Amazing experience. Located right in the historic district just two blocks from Independence Hall, this museum is a must see. As a mom, I appreciated the completely interactive experience. So many items had "please touch" signs or interactive components. There was a scavenger hunt with an item in most rooms, giving us something to focus on with my 7-year old without being overwhelmed. As a history teacher with a history buff husband, I appreciated the amount of history covered. The museum basically starts at the French and Indian War and walks you chronologically through the Revolution with each area having a clearly defined focus. Enslaved, Black, Native, and women's voices on both sides are taken into account throughout. Great experience and a great compliment to the free experiences at Independence Hall and the Liberty Bell.

Very good museum with a lot of care, and work placed into it's presentations, displays, and artifacts. The museum goes into great depth to discuss the war itself, the role of the founders, but also the roles of Women, African-Americans, Native Americans, and the British, Loyalist, and French. Giving fair perspectives from all. I especially liked the exhibit at the end which features actual, real-life photographs of the veterans and their stories. A must visit museum in Philly!

The Museum of the American Revolution in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, stands as a commendable testament to historical preservation and education. This well-curated institution seamlessly captures the essence of the Revolutionary War era, offering visitors a profound insight into the events that shaped the birth of the United States. The exhibits are meticulously organized, featuring a rich array of artifacts, documents, and immersive displays that bring history to life. For anyone with an interest in America's founding, this museum provides a compelling and educational experience, making it a must-visit destination in the heart of Philadelphia.

A well-produced overview of the American Revolution, from its roots to its contradictions. The museum isn't squeamish about how America hasn't always lived up to the ideals it put to paper, including from the get-go. It also doesn't present the British as doofuses destined to lose. If you're looking from a completely in-depth look into every nook of the war, this isn't it, but it is surprisingly detailed and complete. Recommend.

Museum with some pretty neat artifacts like George Washington’s sword. I went as part of the all-inclusive Go City pass, which enabled me to visit almost all the museums in the city. This was one of the better ones, but my favorite was the Franklin Institute.

This is a great place to learn about the American Revolution. Exhibits on what led up to the American Revolution as will as the war itself. The highlight is Washington's war tent. I definitely would recommend this museum.

Easily one of my favorites on our Philly trip! INCREDIBLE artifacts, and so many you’d never think of. Such a well done exhibit that takes you through all the rooms and keeps you captivated. If you’ve had enough in that room, go to the next. There’s so much variety there’s enough for everyone to find something they find interesting. Definitely start with the orientation movie - it’s 15 minutes and a perfect warm up to what you’ll see. I loved the progression of the flags as the nation was forming and an old Bible that a soldier carried on him, plus the muskets. Definitely some kid friendly spots although the play room they have was closed on Fridays so we didn’t get to see that. GREAT gift shop too. I would have loved to see Washington’s War Tent - well preserved artifacts and it’s set up - but you have to see a presentation and it’s only once an hour or so and we missed it by a little bit and had to leave due to a meltdown by my 2 year old 😂 this is definitely a good spot to come! There’s a discount if you buy tickets online so think about buying ahead. ~$20/adult

We had a luxury to visit the museum on a first snow day in Philadelphia; for the first 30 minutes we probably were the only people in the museum. Great exhibits, impressive setup, lots of history. I enjoyed every moment of it. The gift shop is reasonably priced and has many interesting books. My 2nd grader liked the weapons and Tent.

This is an amazing museum! You must see the video in the main room detailing the history of George Washington's tent in the war against England where they show you the actual tent at the end of the show! It was quite moving. I highly recommend it 👌 👍

The variety of things including videos, sounds, paintings, puzzles, and more and how they tried to represent a ‘real feel’ and its interactive nature was extremely impressive. It’s a great and informative place to visit and my interactions with the staff was wonderful. They are well versed in the history, were ready to answer any questions and were super helpful.

This museum is one of the best I have been to in years. It was strongly recommended by some of my friends who are local historians and professors to me and it did not disappoint! The combination of various informative and teaching techniques such as interactive exhibits and written materials and videos made it fun and interesting to people of all ages and degrees of knowledge about the American Revolution.

What an excellent experience! Witness the story of the American Revolution told in a very intuitive way, looking at the why, what, and how. It is a very meticulously curated museum, with many interactive exhibits and easy to follow videos and materials. Make sure you visit the ship on the second level, and you attend the exhibit with Washington’s tent!

Great experience. From the good space, to the interactive elements and abundance of video education tools, to the thorough explanatory notes on displayed items, we had fun learning. A highlight is the actual tent used by George Washington through the Revolutionary War, and the presentation which helps to bring forward the compelling symbolic value of General Washington's continuous presence among his troops. We ended up joining. I expect to return.

This museum is full of exhibits that provide tons of historical information. Lines were not long and you can spend as long as you want walking around. Worth the time and money.

  • 5/5 Brenda B. 1 year ago on Google
First-rate presentation of the American story; important tough questions about our country's founding are faced candidly and with scholarship and perspective, not "woke" clichés. The exhibits are a great hybrid of classic diorama and technology, with plenty to engage kids. And the Washington's tent film and reveal is deeply moving--thrilling, actually. Make a day of it, with a lunch break at Sonny's cheese steaks a few blocks away!

Positively phenomenal from start to finish. Highly immersive and informative exhibits in a beautiful facility that flows chronologically through the period before the war up to the modern day incarnations of many of the same challenges. Strongly recommended. Takes a solid 2-3 hours to go through everything

Wonderful exhibit. So many artifacts, portraits, arms, books and relics pertaining to the Revolution. Getting to see General George Washington actual war tent was definitely a hilite. All of the short films throughout the exhibit as well as the films in the two theaters were fantastic

This is a wonderful museum that provides an in depth view on the American revolution and the political and economic environment of the time. Points out the good and the bad, and in my opinion, is a must for everyone visiting Philly. Parking is not an issue as there are parking garages in walking distance. Tickets are valid for two days (subject to change, so don’t nail me for it). Crowd control was not the best, but masks were mandatory and enforced. Due to crowd control issues (I had a couple of school classes) I would recommend N95 instead of cloth. Other than that, perfect time. All staff members are very helpful and knowledgeable about the subject.

  • 5/5 Ethan L. 1 year ago on Google
Great museum! The main exhibition hall tells the story arc of the revolution, with short movies interspersed throughout. There are some items for kids to touch and some interactive display panels, but it is mostly displays (pictures, artifacts, and text). The whole thing is framed to show that while the revolutionary war ended, the 'American Revolution' continues today as we collectively grapple with what the role of government should be and what it means that "all men are created equal". The displays are very nice and highlight the history we know well, and also many individual stories and perspectives not as well known (including women, African Americans, and Native Americans). We also had lunch at the Cafe, and the food was good and the prices reasonable (better/cheaper than most museum cafes we been to).

  • 5/5 JC O. 1 year ago on Google
Very nice museum, lots of good historical items inside and a range of things for young and old to learn. The day I went there was a Native American song and dance going on right at the entrance and they were very nice. This facility has many other events that go on throughout the year I was told and all the staff were friendly and knowledgable. I would recommend this museum if you have an hour or two in the city.

A wonderful educational museum with lots of interesting artifacts and displays to view. It really brings the Revolution to life. You'll want to get your tickets in advance, and you can pick the time (and date) you'd like. It was very crowded when we went (on a weekday) so it'll take time to go through the museum if you want to see everything. Well worth it!

  • 5/5 Adam S. 1 year ago on Google
A unique educational experience, it's the only museum dedicated to the American Revolution. Good for both young kids and adults. You could spend an hour or three here depending on how fast you move through the exhibits.

  • 3/5 Tom 1 year ago on Google
Must visit! Great museum which is bringing the history alive. The texts and information are really interesting and cover different fields. The exhibition itself is a nice mix of texts, pictures, videos, audios and items. -1* because the employee at the "Battle Theater" was just reading and not interacting with the visitors, so for us the "Battle Theater" was useless. -1* there is or should be a 0 floor with another exhibition but no elevator is going there. They should communicate better if the exhibition is closed.

I'm not much of a war buff or historian, but I loved this museum! I took my friend down because he's very interested in the American Revolution, and I expected him to enjoy it more than I did, but both of us ended up raving about the experience together when we left. It was so interactive and nicely put together. Plus, I love how accessible it is! Seeing George Washingtons tent was our favorite part. The production value that went into it was just amazing. Even if you aren't that interested in history, I would recommend this museum! It really immerses you and gives you a lot of interesting information in engaging ways.

The GentleGod from Illinois respectfully recraft these amazing words to move them into the 5th Dimension. To wit: We hold these Truths to be self-evident, That All HuMans are created equal; That they are The Creator, with certain Universal rights; that among these are Life, Liberty, and being happy in a manner that serves the Highest Good of All. That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among HuMans, deriving their just powers from their inherent nature of HuMans as The Creator..... I went to this place on an out of state trip, and it was unexpectedly fun. My tour guide was quite interactive and would let us find things out ourselves instead of telling us the information straight up. Both exhibits of focus were interesting and the Black Founders one was a great insight on rich black people in the 18th century. Really nice place!

The Museum of the American Revolution is one of the best museums and cultural institutions in Philadelphia. I am thrilled to write this review for both the museum and its wonderful staff. Prior to COVID, I had set up a group event at the Museum of the American Revolution, which unfortunately had to be cancelled as events and museums were closed to reduce the risk of spread. The Museum helped me immediately process a refund and stayed in touch over the past six months to provide us with updates on alternative events that we could run virtually. Jessica - from the Group Sales team - was incredibly accommodating and helpful as we planned our event. Last night, we had a chance to experience the museum virtually through a remote lecture and online tour led by Tyler and Rebecca. About 20 attendees signed on to Zoom for the event and everyone has already commented on how great an event and evening it was. Whether for a remote group event, an in-person trip [they're open in a limited capacity now], or an on-site group event, I highly recommend working with the Museum of the American Revolution. Thanks all!

Very solid, moving experience and highly recommend for those looking to learn more about this important period of U.S. history. Excellent for ages 5-99. A lot of interactive, well presented historical material with multi-media "films" and real-life recreations to immerse visitors in the time, place and people of the revolution.

A very informative and interactive chronological journey through the years before, during and after the American Revolution. A great mix of exhibits with historical information, artifacts, interactive exhibits and films gives a good timeline of the revolution. The journey begins with introductory film and end with the film and glass case viewing of the Washington's tent. Worth a trip to Philadelphia to see the newer museum !! The exhibits and great stories throughout the museum is enhanced with the staff retelling a more detailed information of some of the artifacts at various times during the day. They are friendly and open to answer any questions you may have. The exhibits are a combination of artifacts interspersed with excellent audio visual presentations harnessing the latest technology. The basement is dedicated to mostly hands on activities for the kids of all ages. The scavenger hunt throughout the museum was a fun game to play with the prize as old map of Philadelphia during those times. Definitely worth my trip to the historical city.

I'll preface this by saying we aren't museum people. We had heard good things about this one so we decided to check it out while we were traveling to Philly for work. We came on the first full weekend of the month and took advantage of Bank of America's Museums on Us program. Anyone with a Bank of America card can get in for free which is awesome. We really didn't spend much time here. The only museums I like tend to be a lot more interactive than this one was. The museum was pretty small. It had two levels with one exhibit on the first floor and a larger one on the second floor. There's also a movie theater upstairs. I think this is a museum that history buffs would love. It just wasn't for me.

Beautiful! It was an innovative museum with creative exhibits and hands on activities. It's only good for a one time go though, because you can see everything in less than two hours. Despite that, it's very cool and I enjoyed it very much!

A great find in Philly! Exhibits were really interesting and all the staff was friendly and knowledgeable. Even has a great little cafe! For me, it's a "don't miss".

Great experience. I spent almost four hours there, and I could have probably stretched it out even more if not for having to catch the next train. Highly recommend for anyone of all ages interested in American history.

Great museum and staff, but the gift shop prices are overpriced. There was a small tassle keychain that costed $14.99, which I personally think is too much.

Great museum. I wouldn't recommend it if you have kids under 10 though. But awesome displays.
