I’ve been ordering from this restaurant for a couple years now for at least 3 times a month. The has been decent and things have been missed here and there but I’ve let it go until last night. I ordered a whole fish to be delivered as I’ve always done. Upon arrival, I noticed that only half of the fish was provided (see pic). I called to report the issue and was transferred to the manager. This supposed manager started by denying my report so I offered to provide a picture. After sending the picture, I called him again and that’s where he proceeded to call me a liar and that his kitchen never made a mistake. I don’t need a free food and consider myself to be conciliatory so to be called a liar for a piece of missing fish is not only insulting but demeaning. The manager seems to think he’s allowed to speak to people disrespectfully because the person sounds like him..

Great atmosphere and staff is helpful since it was our 1st time eating cultural comfort food. Egusi & Efo riro stew was mouth watering with fufu! Food rich in flavor perfectly and we enjoyed eating with our hands. We’ll be back! & I’m spreading the word

My first time going to an African restaurant. It was a Friday night and they had live music which was way too loud for me. I brought the food back to my hotel room. I must say the lamb chops were delicious.

Disappointed.. I won't go back. I ask for beef in the engusi and peanut butter sauce and what little bit of meat I did get was hard and dried out, like the beef was old.. Could not even chew it. This pic is as soon as I got home and opened everything.. this is exactly what I got. The pies were not good.. just very bad experience. The veggies were cool and the vegetarian engusi was cool, nothing exceptional. Definitely not worth the money I spent. Small portions also.. 👎🏽

The food was amazing, customer service was phenomenal, EJ and the band was crazy good! The band played the best of the best! EJ sang his entire tail off! Hit every note! Atmosphere was phenomenal! Crowd was fun and dancing was great! I had a time last night!

I had a really good meal and drinks on my first visit. The bartender let me know what drink specials are available. She was also very knowledgeable on the menu. She found out what I did not like to eat and gave me recommendations based on my taste.

Let me start off by saying Sunday Aug 27th 2023, we walked in to trap music with foul language. We thought, oh, maybe that's to entertain the bar crowd. The greeter was very kind and polite as well as our waitress. We first ordered the meat pie and the veggie pie. The veggie pie was edible, but the meat pie was drowning in what tasted like olive oil or peanut oil. It was pouring out of the patty all over the plate and had a horrible taste. I thought this was just how Africans cooked. We then ordered the Poulet Roti at $22, which was maybe the portion size of an average breast and a wing with a mushroom sauce. Way overpriced! The Poulet Roti was SUPER oily but was hard, dry, and crunchy at the same time. Again, I figured maybe this is how Africans like their chicken. After dipping it in the sauce and trying it different ways, I concluded that it was old stale meat and not smoke dried. This food was so old that I'm here in bed tossing and turning with a stomach ache, writing this review, knowing the cause was this restaurants food as that was all I ate other than drinking water. We also ordered the Yassa chicken, which had a really good and unique taste with fresh vegetables, but the chicken pieces were mostly bone, fat, and cartilage with barely any meat. We tried the Jolof rice wich was excellent and a side order of spinach that was fresh and wonderful! Although the restaurant has a smooth, peaceful vibe, the meat is TERRIBLE and extremely overpriced. These are con artist meal deals. I suggest only ordering veggie meals as that's what was actually really good. Their meat is trash. Well, their chicken was, and that's where it's at. In the trash. I wish I could get a refund, but hey, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and ended up tossing and turning in bed. We won't be returning, and I hope those who choose to patronize this place will have a better experience than we did!

A friend invited me here on a Friday night to see his band play. I took my 6 year old nephew. We had a great time. The ambience, the customer service, food, drinks, EVERYTHING was amazing.. I had the lamb chops w/ vegetables (really nice sized portion) and a Tequila sunrise. I took my leftovers home and made some rice out of my cabinet with it the next day.. My nephew had chicken alfredo (his favorite..lol), and sprite, he loved it! The only bad thing I can say is it took a waiter a little while to come to our table, but I let the hostess know and she sent someone right over!

Amazing vibes. The band was excellent, spacious venue, lots of people enjoying themselves, we danced, the food was authentic & flavorful. I look forward to coming back. Our bartender was Awesome & the life of the party. I also enjoyed the lamb.

Food was pretty good ive been getting this place last few months about 3 times a month. Great business always answer the phone and always have food made promptly. Better than some of the other restaurants in the area. Great overall experience!

One of my favorite places. I love the food. The whole snapper is the best. If I dont order that its the Jollof, plantains, spinach and mushrooms (I make my own Veggie plate) and their hot sauce, which is super spicy (I love everything spicy). If you like medium red wine, try the South African Jam Jar.

I was visiting Cleveland on a business trip and was referred to Choukouya. It was an excellent experience. Very nice atmosphere, casual or upscale both fit in well. The drinks were excellent and the food was presented well and were delicious. I personally had the catfish, but our group of 6 all ordered something different and all loved their food. I make several trips a year to Cleveland and will be stopping in each trip.

I was in Cleveland for 21/2 months for work from SD, tried a lot of restaurants but nothing compared to Choukouya Resto-Bar, the service, the warm welcoming atmosphere and Mike the manager has the best attitude. I love their food too. I’ll definitely come back

The place is artfully beautiful. The music is great. The staff is cordial and professional. I suppose I would classify as an upscale African Fusion. I've eaten here several times the food is consistently great. I have referred many people to check it out. This restaurant and bar is definitely a one of a kind here in Cuyahoga County and a gem 💎 I wish many long years of success.

Amazing! First time there - I will be back!

I may be use to one type of fufu But to me this one is par to less than average, talking to the first guy he said it was made from boxed mash potatoes and it tastes like it was. The second guy looked a bit offended when he addressed the issue and I said boxed mash potatoes and I didn't like it. He exclaimed in a polite way that it was yams. I expressed that it didn't taste as such, he brought me a second one to no surprise still tasted the same. The sauces were amazing, which I suppose is what really counts when eating fufu. Still I believe the first guy based off taste and texture.never the less I had the rabbit and my boyfriend had the catfish. Rabbit is a hard meat to cook so it was a little dry but the flavor was delicious. Catfish was perfectly fried For me the prices are a little to high end for what you get with everything AL la cart But I understand the concept of wanting it to be a fine dining place. I see the potential and hope that this place gets more business. They deserve a couple resturants ( in my opinion if they drop the prices or at least add some veggies to certain dishes) then it would be worth an80 dollar check for lunch. The service was excellent I do not understand being charged a check out fee on top of taxes. But hey make your money!!!! You just won't be getting mine as often as id like. I hope that no one reads this as a bad review its not intended that way Just one persons honest opinion.

The best food man talking about the fish and the lamb chops wow is really good love it I’ll be there often
