My wife and I took a trip to DC in April and eight at founding Farmers. I had eaten there before and had a great memory of Camille, this one was just okay. She did say that her Yankee pot roast was incredible. I had the cauliflower steak as well as the king short ribs and they were pretty good. We shared a butterscotch bread pudding which was served cold and it should have been warmed up. We asked them to warm it up, but they said it would be 10 minutes before they could bring it back to us so we just ate it cold. All in all the staff was okay, but not great. I would still go back since they have great food. We spent a total of $102 between the two of us for those meals plus dessert. Not a terrible price for the location. My rating system consists of a 3-star being exactly what I expected and neither good nor bad. A 4 means something was extra special whether it was service, food, staff, etc., and a 5 means I was blown away. A 2 star rating was disappointing with no offer to correct the experience and a 1-star rating was terrible

We had a fabulous experience here. It's a very fun atmosphere and the food was delicious. I had the crazy corn chicken salad and it might be my most favorite salad ever. My husband had the southwest chicken salad and my daughter had the chicken and waffles. Everyone enjoyed their meal. Our waitress, Camilla, was fantastic and has a great personality. Everyone working there seemed like they were having a good time.

We were seated promptly at our reservation time. The hosts and servers were polite and effective, albeit the food and drinks took a while to come out. Everything was very very tasty. The meat in particular. Try the prime rib, and the pork chops - but you may want to ask that they cook less than you usually like because ours were slightly over cooked.

Quality food and drinks! Stopped by while out and about visiting DC with the family. Short walk from several metro stations. Reserved a table during lunchtime the morning we went and was seated minutes after we showed up. Staff was attentive and my drink was never empty. Reasonable prices for the quality food you get considering the location and love the bar menu. Was recommended this place by several people and it was quickly apparent why. Will definitely visit again next time we are in DC!

One of the best breakfasts we’ve ever had! This place is a cooperative of farmers and restaurant owners bringing from farm to table, classic American breakfast dishes. The biscuits are perfect and the aesthetic and atmosphere are progressive and elegantly modern. If you are visiting Washington D.C., put this on your restaurant list, trust us. The waits are a little long, so plan accordingly, but it is every bit worth the wait!

Founding Farmers has been an institution in DC for a very long time. While I was in town, some family members really wanted to take me here and we managed to do so. We arrived at around 6:15 PM on a Saturday and they were slammed. The entire entryway was crowded. We did have a reservation but it took them a while to get our table ready for us. We finally got it roughly 35 minutes behind schedule. Our waiter was very friendly and gave us great menu suggestions. We started out with the cornbread as an appetizer. It was good! I also tried one of the glazed bacon lollis. Those were fantastic! As my entree, I got the Fried Chicken & Waffle which comes with Mac n cheese, green beans, and white gravy. Now what were my thoughts? It was great! The chicken had great seasoning and tasted fresh, the Mac n cheese was fantastic, the green beans were good, the waffle was dry, and the white gravy didn’t really taste like anything. Everything else about it though was great! Overall, with how much hype there is behind this joint and how busy they were, I’d say it was worth it. If you’re in DC looking for a true institution, give Founding Farmers a shot! Even if they’re slammed, they still run the place like a well oiled machine! I’ll be back!

Our first stop in Washington DC was Founding Farmers which we visited 4 years ago. We have been missing their Skillet Corn Bread for four years. The smell was extremely appetizing when it was served. Farmers Platter and Garlic Black Pepper Wings were also our favorites from past visits. We would like to recreate their signature wings soon.

Really fresh, delicious breakfast! We tried the waffle, pancake, and egg scramble. Obviously made in house - really delicious. Pancakes and waffles were exceptional. Egg scramble was very savory. The coffee is way better than your average breakfast place. Service was quick and friendly. Recommended!

Hubby time in Washington DC. We ate upstairs in the dinning area. This restaurant was a recommendation for their chicken and waffles however they were not on the menu so we decided to taste the braised short ribs and crab cakes. My hubby said the green needed seasoning. My dish was tasteful but the cold slaw was too bland. Al was our server and was very attentive to us. Butterscotch bread pudding was just okay.

Omg so yummy. Visited DC for the first time and found this restaurant for breakfast. It definitely did not disappoint! It was so yummy we came back the next morning. We reserved a table online and good thing we did because it gets crowded fast. Our table was ready when we arrived and all of the staff was very friendly. Food came out fast. The French toast was so unique and tasted amazing. I loved the Eggs Benedict and how crispy the hash browns were! Definitely would come back!

What a gem! The food, the ambiance and the service were all phenomenal. The food quality was fresh and extremely flavorful. We ordered a portion of their homemade biscuits and mimosas to start off. My husband then ordered brioche French Toast, which was to die for! I ordered their eggs Benedict with a side of fruit. The food was so good that we returned for dinner the same day.

We had an hour wait, and the food was well worth it. The staff is friendly and does a good job checking on the table. Vegetarian options. Voices do kind of carry, so it is a bit loud. But overall very happy that we got to eat here. I even got their recipe book so I can try to replicate the food.

The food here was so amazing. It wasn't cheap but it was so tasty it was definitely worth it. The flavors were great. It was packed and I didn't know I should have made a reservation ahead of time but it was cool because you don't need a reservation for the bar and the allowed my son to sit at the bar, which I thought was cool. The chocolate was very good also and the strawberries were very sweet. I got the fish if the day and it was trout and it did not disappoint. The chicken and waffles was perfect amount of crispy

Super fun place. Very busy, a little noisy but not bad. We started with the cornbread and it was very good. I could have eaten the whole thing. We split the crab mac and cheese. It was smoky and creamy with a whole crab cake on top. We also split the chicken pot pie. It was less of a bold flavor than the mac and cheese, but still very good though the puff pastry was hard to eat. I also ordered the chicken soup because I'm feeling under the weather. It was very flavorful and hit the spot. The ginger soda was the best I've ever had. Our server warned me that it was spicy, but I thought it was perfect.

Overall very excellent. The food is the main reason you go out to eat, and Founding Farmers has perfected the food. It is simply superb, with excellent textures and flavors and portion sizes and freshness. The drip coffee blend is phenomenal and truly packs a punch. Our server Liz was very nice and accommodating. The only thing I would suggest for improvement is to have a way to scan a QR code for when you arrive at the restaurant and there is a line in order to hold your place in line for check in. Also, we did wait about 15 minutes for our server when we first got seated. We had 0830 reservations for 3 on a Sunday. We would definitely come again!

Kinda have mixed feelings about this place so I’ll start with the positive! As a first timer from Louisiana, the service here is incredible! Kevrika was very quick and stayed on top of a very busy section with large tables. Now, the food is a mixed bag for me. The margarita was delicious, well balanced with sugar on the rim. Cornbread with corn is a little weird for me, but it wasn’t bad. Chicken noodle soup had very few noodles so it was mostly broth and chicken breast - the bread that’s served with the soup is incredible but to get more than one is an extra charge. I ordered the Crab Mac and Cheese and was very confused once I got it because it wasn’t fresh crab out of the shell, it was a crab cake, and it was topped with tartar sauce which was an awful combination for me. I have hated tartar sauce for my entire life and I wouldn’t have ordered it if I knew it came with it. To not be a nuisance, I scraped the sauce of the top and ignored it for the most part but it still brought the dish down as a whole. Also, if I had known it was just a crab cake on top, I wouldn’t have ordered it. A more descriptive menu would be helpful for unfamiliar guests. Overall it wasn’t too bad but it wasn’t my favorite. Guess I’d come again when the menu changes to give it another chance.

I'm a bit disappointed by this place with such an original namesake. The Founding Farmers came highly recommended. But I failed to experience the kudos on this visit. We targeted 2 of their signature dishes. Only one of them, the shrimp and grits, was above par. My Yankee pot roast was dry and somewhat tasteless. Then the experience came dangerously close to 1 star, when we were denied ordering a bottle of their house Chardonnay. They were either unable or unwilling to serve us a bottle of their HOUSE CHARDONNAY, at the listed price on their menu, in writing. Neither explanations made sense nor warrants us ever coming back. DC is such a rich culinary town. I can't imagine that the Founding Farmers could ever convince diners of this fact. This is a skip for sure.

The fried chicken waffles are incredibly delicious and the fluffiest waffles I've ever had. Paired with their cinnamon syrup, it feels like the world becomes a better place. The other dishes are also fantastic, making it worth the half-hour wait in line. It was a joyful dining experience, and I'll definitely come back next time.

This came as a recommendation from a very helpful gentleman working at the Kennedy Center and I'm glad we went. We booked a reservation online, the place was packed and it was a Sunday night. Service was fabulous, a big shout out to our waiter, Jose, who answered all our questions about the menu. The food was excellent, fresh and tasty from appetizer to dessert ( homemade vanilla and chocolate ice cream, yum). Great, vibrant, social atmosphere. When I visit DC again, I'll be back. Thank you for a dining experience, not just a meal

It was a busy Sunday evening, and this was the only restaurant with a bar that was open in the area. So we checked in and waited an hour to be seated. The bar is centered on the first floor so extremely crowded and noisy. The staff were pleasant. We ordered food which came pretty quickly. The fare is simple. The chicken noodle soup was hearty. The entrees were decent and portions were good. The sides looked like an afterthought with fries that were mostly crumbs. Considering the limited choice of eating establishments that day, it was not bad. But I would be hard pressed to go there on a day when other places are open to choose from.

I'm so glad we came here for breakfast. They were quite busy and we didn't want to wait for a table so we sat at the bar. Liz, our server, was great. Right away, she took our drink orders. She checked on us often and refilled my coffee cup. We ordered the Brioche French toast with Bananas Foster and a waffle with blueberry compote. Both were very flavorful. They had other breakfast choices on the menu. Would definitely come back.

Went here for dinner. Ordered their Glazed Cedar Plank Salmon, "Our Best Veggie Burger", Mac n' Cheese with chicken and Butterscotch Bread Pudding. To wash it down, I also got the Victory Golden Monkey. Everything was beautiful. The salmon was perfectly done and so were the mashed potatoes that accompanied it. The fries with the burger were fresh and so was the pasta. The pudding was rich and tasted awesome! Will come back here again for sure.

The food was really good and reasonably priced! They do not hold back on portions like many restaurants do. Their food is certainly fresh, like their farm-to-table promise suggests. The service was great and the atmosphere was nice.

Solid 5 stars across the board. Server was great, small but varied beer selection. A friend said that the bloody Mary was delicious. Big menu and it was hard to narrow down but we started with the bread and spread sampler that didn't have a bad combo to it. For dinner we got the Prime Rib, French Dip, and Grilled cheese. They seemed to be able to make anything a side, or modify the dish anyway you wanted. Nothing I would have changed and would love to go back.

Now I know why on a Sunday morning the streets of Washington are completely empty - everyone sits here. And it is hardly surprising, because the local breakfasts are absolutely delicious. Excellent quality ingredients; the best hash brown in my life; fluffy, soft pancakes - all worth visiting and enjoying a lazy morning.

Customer service was awesome! The popcorn was great. There was a ton of it! The pot roast was absolutely amazing! The gravy for the pot roast had layers of flavor. I liked the ravioli, but I do think that it just needs the butternut squash not the browned praline butter too. It made it a little too sweet. The mac & cheese and chicken tenders were good. We loved the atmosphere. If we’re ever in DC again, we will definitely be back.

Excellent all the way around. Runs like a well oiled machine. Every item we had was cooked to perfection, fresh and flavorful. The sweet Tea sweetened with agave and fresh lemonade were so delicious and refreshing. Definitely recommend the Garlic Black Pepper Wings, the sauce was so good! I had the Pot roast and my guy, who couldn’t decide, went with the farmers platter. We also had at the table the ribeye and the chili burger. Both temps were spot on. We were sat quickly tho they seemed busy and were greeted in a timely manner. The manager made a stop at our table and got us refills and answered some questions. Both she and the server were super helpful, knowledgeable and friendly. We also loved the decor and vibe. It was a great experience all the way around. Was the best place we tried on our trip.

I had heard a lot about Founding Farmers and was excited to finally try it after seeing a show at the Kennedy. I found the food to be just okay, particularly for the price point. The corn bread skillet with honey mustard was great, and I got a butternut squash ravioli while my husband opted for the chicken and waffles (he loves a chicken and waffle). The ravioli was good, but nothing sensational. My husband described the chicken and waffle as “fine.” The best part of it was their syrup - I would seriously be interested in purchasing a bottle if they sell it separately. Founding Farmers seems like a great option for big groups with varying tastes. The large menu has something for everyone, and the space itself accommodates a lot of guests. I would have felt better about the food if it were just a little bit cheaper, but for the price I paid my standards were a little higher.

I’ve been to this location once for brunch (2022) and once for dinner (2023). I greatly disliked my brunch experience here, however, they have redeemed themselves during dinner service. I went on Christmas Eve 2023 with some friends, and while the food is your typical American fare, it was cooked well and the service was good for a holiday. I probably wouldn’t go out of my way to dine here, but I will say the decor and atmosphere is very nice.

Great place for dinner but make sure to make a reservation, we went over weekend and it was crowded. Roasted tomato soup was really delicious with such good bread. New york steak was 10/10 with amazing mashed potato and sweet potato which was so delicious. For desert key lime cream pie was 10/10 too.

Overall a really good experience! It got off to a bad foot because we came in at 7:37 for a 7:30 reservation and had to wait nearly until 8 for a table. That made me a little annoyed, but it was near a holiday so I understand it's busy. Once we got seated it was alright because our server Dwayne (or Dwyane?) was great! He was immediately conversational and cracking jokes which my family loves (though I know some people might prefer a minimal server). The star though, and what made up for the wait, was the food. It really was so delicious and the value was pretty great especially for DC! We'll definitely come back.

We were so happy to find another awesome dinner place we could walk to. .4 miles from our hotel, the Residence Inn. We made a reservation online half an hour before we ate and arrived to find many people waiting for tables. We were seated within five minutes. The menu had so many amazing choices that we really struggled to choose. Our dishes were all winners, with good variety. The favorite was the pot roast, followed by the Mac and cheese with chicken tenders. The whole experience was great, excellent service, fun, and happening vibe and perfect for our two teens and for us! Yummy cocktails too!

There was a 30 minute wait so the hostess informed us that we had the option of sitting at the bar and had the pleasure of being served by Christian. He was such a vibe. He gave us the history of the bar, cocktails and gave us great suggestions for our dining experience. He has such an amazing personality and great sense of humor and it was the best ending for our girls weekend. He had a full bar top and he literally had the same energy with every one. I observed him deal with a difficult couple next to us with such ease and grace and never lost his smile the entire time. He is a great asset to the bar vibe at the restaurant. I will definitely be back for sure. Oh and the food was amazing!

visited for lunch! started with the fried green tomatoes, which i would rate 8/10. the goat cheese dip was so yummy! also had the bacon lollies, mt friend loved them but they were just okay to me! had the salmon and the thyme chicken! salmon was 10/10 due to the sweet and savory flavor combo. was not impressed by the cornbread but the mac n cheese was 7.5/10. it had a creamy, rich sauce that wasn’t too heavy. the chicken was alright and mashed potatoes were about a 6/10. the salmon was definitely the star of the show. i definitely recommend!

Cornbread and salads were delicious. Grace was an excellent server! The table next to us got the carrot cake which looked amazing but we were too full by the end. Be aware of the 5% wellness charge, listed on the menu but easy to miss. We tipped on the pre tax, pre wellness amount plus a little extra for the exceptional service.

In our opinion, one of the best restaurants in Washington DC that we have been to. The service is at a high level and the dishes are very tasty. We were here for breakfast and were not disappointed. We recommend ordering a table before arriving, the restaurant is very popular. We highly recommend it.

My rating for this establishment is 3.5 stars. Tried the following. Shrimp and grits andouille Farmhouse platter Roasted vegetables, avocado, brie sandwich Shrimp and grits was very good, had a hint of spicy flavors, and was decently filling. We ended up ordering another as takeout. Farmhouse platter was pretty disappointing. Both the mini burgers and the hotdog were very mediocre. The ribs were flavorful and tender. I liked the corn salad a lot as well, where as the coleslaw was decent. The sandwich was good, and the French fries it came with were one of the best fries I've had in recent years. Overall a pretty good experience. The server was lacking in the attentive department just a tad bit. Didn't even have the silverware set on the tables by the time the food runner brought out our food so we had to get it from someone else. They also have that funny Wellness charge for like $3 because they want to cheap out on paying their employees and put the burden on customers. Not a big deal but still silly. I would not go out of my way to dine here again, but I wouldn't mind if the stars were to be aligned.

Outstanding service from Colby today! I only wish other servers at other restaurants could learn from him. I was blown away with how polite & how wonderful he was for my 40th birthday today! He made suggestions & I loved them! The Blueberry jam is SO good. You can tell it is fresh & made daily just by the taste. The chicken & waffles were incredible. The scrambler with chicken sausage & meat was fantastic! Everything was so good. I am so glad I went there to celebrate! Just got back to my hometown this evening & raving about this restaurant to my family.

I recently dined at Founding Farmers Restaurant, and I must say that my experience left much to be desired. While the food was just okay, there were several aspects of the restaurant that fell short of my expectations. First and foremost, the cleanliness of the glassware and appetizer dishes was a major concern. It was disappointing to find that the glassware and dishes were not properly cleaned, as this is a basic expectation for any dining establishment. It definitely took away from the overall dining experience and left a negative impression. Furthermore, the service at Founding Farmers Restaurant was subpar. I had to repeatedly ask the waiter for my daughter's lemonade, which was frustrating and inconvenient and there were floating objects in the water. Taking into account these factors, I must say that Founding Farmers is a place that I would probably not return to. While the food was passable, the dirty glassware and dishes, combined with the poor service, made for a disappointing visit. For a restaurant in a bustling city like Washington D.C., I expected a higher level of quality and attention to detail. Unfortunately, Founding Farmers failed to meet these expectations. There are plenty of other dining options in the area that offer better food quality, cleanliness, and attentive service. I would recommend exploring other options before considering Founding Farmers as a dining destination.
