The best thing about this gym is the amount of equipment you can use! This very location is where I started my -100lb weight loss journey. It's really close to home for me, literally! Had one bad experience here.. I wore a tank top and they denied me entry because it was a "stringer"..? There was the exact same shirt being sold to women. I was only allowed to workout if I purchased the female shirt!

I worked out here while visiting DC (from NY) and this Is the best planet fitness I’ve ever visited. Plenty machines all on one floor, huge space, lots of light, great staff.

I'll start with the good stuff. This place is decently maintained as far as clenliness. The staff is available and useful when necessary. The negatives are most of the lockers in the ladies room aren't working. They are either already locked or disfunctional. As if someone is breaking into them, so I was hesitant in leaving my stuff in them. Without another option I was forced, but very uncomfortable doing so. Then the heat! I went for the first time in August. The AC cleary wasn't working. The windows weren't open so it smelt like old dusty arm pits and mold. The further back into the establishment you went the hotter it got. I wasn't even working out and I was sweating. So when I did start to work out I was dripping wet which made basic workouts seem impossible since I was slipping and sliding all over the place. Since i was doing strength training then i had to head to the farthest part of the gym that had little to no ventilation. I've never struggled with breathing indoors. But this place made it hard to even breathe with the heat. I usually go to other locations but this is a new one due to my new schedule. I hate how hot it is in there. I hope this get attended to sooner than later. They also lack adequate workout mats.

Really Bad Custome service. I needed help just because I missed my membership and the MANAGER ended up yelling at my husband and me. I went to the gym early but the girl who helped me told me that I didn't have a membership, so I went back home to download the credit card statement where my fee is deducted every month. I went to the gym once again and now the MANAGER attended me and this time my husband accompanied me to clarify things. At the beginning, everything was fine, he told us that I could get my membership in the app and we sat down to try to get it, but it was not possible, so my husband went back to talk to the manager. So, the manager began to raise his voice saying: -You made a mistake, you didn't do it right- etc. My husband was surprised and told him that we had already tried many times and verified the information very well and it was not working and the manager The manager began to review the system and the problem was that my date of birth was incorrect in the system (when I registered they asked for my passport so as not to make mistakes) the MANAGER began to yell at me to give him my ID again, because when The beginning had also given it to him so that he would not make mistakes. I gave him my ID and he kept YELLING at my husband and me that because the information was wrong, that we need to give the correct information and that this was a lot of work for them. WOW. I just thought -it's a lot of work for us because I had to come 2 times and my husband came and also wait more than 30 minutes just for the replacement of my membership and endure that the manager yelled at us WOW-. My husband is very calm and respectful all the time, just like me then, I never understood why he made her angry, I gave him my ID at the beginning, why didn't he verify all the information? I can't see what they write on his computer, so how did he want me to know that there was an error with my information, how? . Finally I fixed my information and directly everything worked. But now I just want to cancel my membership. I can't believe how badly the manager treated us for no reason WOW.

I love this location! Friendly staff, great team. I have been a member since this location opened. I like to go early in the morning. It's not crowded during this time. The facility has effectively implemented the Clean-first strategy during the pandemic. Everyone wears a mask and team members are constantly cleaning. I usually bike to this location and bike parking is in front of the gym!

Recently visited this gym and I’m so happy with the upgrades. Y'all they have about 6 smith machines, I almost cried when I saw that lol! I love it! If y’all can add anything I would say fans because it’s very hot in the gym. Other than that 10/10

I've don't ever really write these, but my experience (however short it was) was terrible. I've been an Planet Fitness black card member for 3 almost 4 years and never had an issue. Staff was always either nice and said nothing to you. Places were clean and usually enough space. But this one in particular really irritated me. I was with the guy I was seeing and I checked in as my guest, lady in front, was polite and greeted us. After I was texting a friend and an employee walked up to me before I did anything. This older gentleman said, "Are you tryna work out?", and I said "yea-" He cuts me off and says, "You can't, you have crocks on." I chuckled bc I've never heard of this rule for the past 3, almost 4 years I been here. Also, I always only do upper body workouts when I wear crocks. I'm not running on the treadmill at 8th speed. He got upset and said "I'm serious you can't work out here. You gotta leave. " I told him that has never been a issue for me and he didn't wanna hear it. Mind you, I've been to a variety of planet fitnesses and never heard or been told of this rule. I understand their there for safety. I understand the importance of rules. But being so rude and demanding makes me never wanna come back. I hope the older gentleman gets better training.

Update: music sound levels have gotten worse, and with people now bringing phones and subwoofer speakers trying to blare music above what is already way too loud (with no intervention from staff), it’s physically painful to be in the building longer than 20 min. I rarely come here an will be looking for a new gym soon. —————— Really nice gym but the music is always up so loud you can't hear your own music through headphones. As a result, many people blare their music out loud, making the environment more like a club and super distracting from your workout. If that's your vibe you'll love it but wish they'd be more considerate of other people's preferences (and ear drums lol).

I really like this location. The people are friendly, the facility is clean and cleaning stations are well stocked. There is plenty of free space for people to move and spread out and if you go late at night there's many fewer people on the floor.

Very friendly staff and clean Planet Fitness! Javon is the best. Recommend parking in the garage. It’s free if you validate your ticket before leaving (if you’re there under 90 minutes you don’t need to validate). A great price for a nice gym. I used the hydrobeds as well. They’re awesome for post workout. The lockers also have locks attached to them which is nice. Pro tip: put in your phone the number and code of the locker you picked. The gym is on the second floor but they have an elevator if you need it. There’s also a bike rack right outside of the door and metered street parking.

Not bad. Cant make too many complaints about a gym that only costs 20 something a month. I have only been twice, but it is about what I expected. The temp is a tad hot in there on sunny days but all else is wonderful.

I had my stuff stolen out of the PF locker that uses their own, unfortunately. I went to this location for the first time for a quick workout after dropping off someone at Union Station before going to work and was excited about the newness of the gym facility and nice, functioning exercise equipment. Every other PF location i've been to in the DMV area (i've been to at least 5-6 different ones), I'm used to using my own lock to secure my locker. I tested this installed lock on the locker I was using twice and definitely locked it. Unfortunately, it wasn't enough. Someone broke into it and took my wallet, airpods case, and sunglasses, costing me well over $300 in personal items, not including needing to replace IDs and the incredible inconvenience. The manager was nice (Antonio) and tried to be helpful, offering a few extra free months. He connected me to the regional manager (Pam Penn) who ultimately said PF isn't liable for lost/stolen items and seemed not to care -- she wouldn't even call me back despite my calls and messages, just emailed me and ghosted me. I had no other option but to use their own locker with installed lock; why have lockers with locks if I can't rely on them? And why wouldn't you stand behind it? I would be hesitant to go to this location because your stuff may get stolen and you will be violated! NEVER AGAIN. I gave it 2 stars because the equipment was good for a PF (new, functioning, usable).

Edit: Nobody at the front desk ugh. I waited a couple five minutes. There's no way to make your presence known that someone is at the front desk. I like this pf, but that kinda made me upset Honestly the best PF I've been to. It's relatively smaller than ones in suburbia, but i think there's a standard of how many of certain training equipment is in each PF and this seems on par with the rest. I mostly use the assisted benchpress, and I think it's an older model, but it's much better than the new ones because I do overhead presses, and on the new ones, they don't go high enough that I can fully stretch out my arms upwards. Note that I'm also shorter than the average dude. Staff is always kind and friendly upon entering and exiting and they do a good job at keeping the area clean without being overbearing.

I’ve been working out at planet fitness in ivy city since 2015. The facilities are always clean and professionally managed. The staff are friendly and courteous people. There are always options even if the free weights and smith machines are taken so no excuses. Once you figure out the best time for your workout it is easier to set a schedule. Being open 24 hours is an advantage one must not ignore. Many times I have had a burst of energy at 3am and gone to work out there.

Truly enjoy this Planet Fitness Location. The set up - all machines & equipment on one floor, friendly & helpful staff, its cleanliness - are all great. The 24/7 hours are fantastic. Just need to totally Replace the problematic, shoddy lockers that have combination mechanisms that fail routinely and the pressed wood construction is cheap and separates from hinges in an insecure way periodically. Go metal like I’ve seen some PFs do - and have folks bring their own padlocks or combination locks - and sell locks at front fest as backups.

I like that the place is very organized, has clean installations, respects the covid protocols, the restrooms and lockers work very well. You have a lot of variety to do a workout with the machines, and finally, the staff is kind and patient. Additionally, you have the hydromassage, which is amazingly relaxing. I definitely would recommend having the membership and joining this gym!

Is it adequate and meet my needs for a gym? Yes. They have plenty of machines (cardio and weights). But is it a fantastic gym? No. Maybe it's just the terrible DC heat, but it's fairly warm and humid in there, making workouts more difficult. A lot of the machines have something minor wrong with them - a handle missing, the machine slightly off kilter, etc. And the lockers are pretty janky. I've seen multiple people have to ask for help to get them open. Plus there are a *ton* of signs saying don't put valuables in the lockers (lol, what's the point of lockers?), which makes me think they are easy to break into.

Staff is always friendly and kind, but the gym is a mess. Equipment is always broken. I emailed the Regional Lead (who was rude to begin with) about the missing 12.5 lb dumbbell and she said it was on order … that was in November…. Guess supply chain issues are that bad because it’s still missing. The 7.5lb dumbbell was falling apart. I flagged it for the front desk. Someone could honestly have gotten hurt because the ends are sharp. We’ll see if they ever replace it or if the one 7.5lb remains on the dumbbell tree just like the 12.5lb one. Who can workout with one dumbbell? I use to like this gym but it’s gone downhill the past several years. Most of the members I was use to seeing have said the same thing. I’ll be switching to another gym.

The facilities are clean. It’s very easy to get in and out to use equipment without any major waits. The staff always greets you with a smile and a hello which is such positive energy to get you motivated for your workout. The lockers come with built in locks that you enter a code to use, so no bother carrying around bulky locks anymore. If you are forgetful put the code in your phone! While I’ve had no need to use the shower area since I live so close, I would not hesitate to use them if I needed to as they are always clean. I have Black Card membership and the hydro waterbed massage is always great after a workout. I would just recommend that they add the stretching cage to the facility.

Cancelling is a nightmare, gym will gladly send you notices over email or call you, however if you want to cancel you must send a letter or show up in person. When cancelling, you will still get billed for subsequent month and they will not respond to emails or calls about it.

The place is really crowded but with ppl just chillin on the machines and not working out. A lot of the machines have little miscellaneous issues but easy to work around. Best time to go is very early in the morning when no one is there.

Horrible customer service!! Amier and The manager Earl was were an extremely example of Bad customer service, I know a few others that has mentioned the nasty, rude, insulting behavior from Earl, I can’t believe he’s a manager there! I wouldn’t go to this gym just over all unpleasant and it gives planet fitness a bad name

there was a lady with blonde twists at the desk who said we couldnt work out all because the birthday was under my mother’s account even though we’ve come to this gym for the past year without any issue. I’ve tried changing the birthday but it doesnt work. She was also very rude about it telling us that. Also forgot to mention, she said something about getting my membership canceled because of this?? I really don’t understand why she had to go to that extent it was unnecessary. I really liked this gym up to now. I may have to actually cancel it myself and workout somewhere else.

Free validated parking. A lot of treadmills and stair climbers. Free lockers to use to store your stuff. The lockers can be tricky to use but, once you get the hang of it then pretty straightforward.

  • 4/5 Benjamin T. 1 year ago on Google
Nice gym clean , only issue was the lockers. Many didn't work with the combination locks they provided. Preferred to use my own to feel safer storing my stuff.

Are we all going to the same gym? Staff is always great and super helpful. However, there always seem to be issues with machines that are not working correctly (three ellipticals had loose pedals the last week when I was there),machines that are broken (broken cup holders, fans on machines not working, Apple Watch sync not working/set up, etc..), and there is ALWAYS water dripping from the ceilings. Every time I’m there there’s a/are bucket(s) set up to collect dripping water. Very dangerous in a gym setting. I stopped going to PF for a while because of these issues and was excited to see new cardio machines when I came back but very disappointed that the same issues remain.

The DC Ivy City gym is very up-to-date clean and a great mix of people to make new friends. Lovely building and a grocery store attached to The same building.. super easy to keep up Your diet and convenience. Parking is also free for a certain amount of time, which is a god sent in the District

  • 5/5 William H. 1 year ago on Google
I really like this location, members and staff seem friendly enough. You can park on the street, for a fee of course. However, you can park in the garage of which the gym will validate 2 hours.
