5 stars is not enough! This place is underrated on Google (should have a higher rating). My husband and I each built our own grilled cheese and they were freaking delicious. Before we had gotten there, we had planned on sharing. I started to order and took a look at what the sandwiches people were eating looked like and I knew there was no way we'd want to share. I wish we were in town longer so that I could've tried the mac and cheese too. But the grilled cheese was so good I don't know if I would even order anything else here.

I ordered a custom sandwich to go online. It was ready two minutes early, and the very friendly staff came outside to bring it to me since I was early but didn't want to pressure them. Great service, very tasty grilled cheese! I chose sourdough with cheddar and avocado. It was perfectly crispy and gooey, with avocado that was flavorful and ripe. To-go containers are sturdy (work well if you're eating outside somewhere) and recyclable/ reusable. I'm excited to be more adventurous with my order next time, but this first sandwich was a classic done perfectly.

Grilled cheese sandwich. Say no more. I went with straight cheese, 2 kinds. The daughter went with a Green Goddess. Had the Mac and Cheese cook just right. Good food. Sat outside, nice day

GCDC is a whole lot of goodness wrapped up in the heart of DC. We ordered a custom grilled cheese, a vegetarian grilled cheese, and a Green Goddess Pasta bowl and all three dishes were excellent. Each dish was prepared fresh and served piping hot. All of the flavors were phenomenal. The seating is a mixed media of booths and table/seating. They also have seating outside for the warmer days. The interior decor is old school rustic with some modern touches. I highly recommend adding this to your go to spots in the DC Metro area. Only thing we thought was off was the temperature inside the establishment was pretty hot, especially with the heat outdoors, but it could be a temporary issue based on our visit.

We ate year several years ago and had good memories so came back while visiting DC again. One sandwich was missing an ingredient listed on the menu, one was really good (pesto turkey), and one was really not very good (burger - should have known better than to order a burger patty here). Prices all a couple dollars more than they should be since it’s just plain white bread with no sides and no table service. It was insanely hot inside the restaurant. We had to leave the booth seating so we didn’t melt and saw two other groups do the same. The tables near the door were marginally better but almost equivalent to sitting in the sun outside. This was 3 weeks ago so hopefully it was just an issue with the a/c for that day.

The grilled cheese were good and came out hot. Friendly staff. I ordered using the screens and the lady at the front helped me out when i was having trouble with my card. They have a free water station in the front which i appreciated since I do not drink soda. Fair priced for a grilled cheese. A good place to try for those that are grilled cheese fans.

After visiting DC for the sites and everything and decided to visit GCDC for dinner. I must say, this place did not disappoint. The young lady who was there came to our table as she noticed we were a little confused on a couple of things and she explained the ordering and assured us she could help us order. We placed our order and waited for less than 10 minutes our food arrived at our table. Yay! Extra gooey and delish. The tomato soup complimented our sandwiches very well. Thank the entire staff for a pleasant eating experience and oh, make sure we can tip. We had cash and of course we show extra appreciation by tipping.

Delicious food! We enjoyed everything we ordered here from the California grill to the Parmesan chicken grill to the macaroni and cheese. Yum! The place is really small so not much seating inside, but they do have outdoor seating if the weather is nice. Eat here if you have a chance!

Grilled cheeses are the easiest and cheapest food you can make at home. But I'm on vacation and needed a grilled cheese fix before my withdrawals got out of hand. They have lots of signature sandwiches and if none of those catch your eye than you can build your own. Not in the mood for a grilled cheese? Can't relate, but you can get Mac n cheese, a quesadilla, or a burger. They also have tomato soup, which was mediocre in my opinion and the main contributor to not receiving five stars from me. Overall a solid grilled cheese and is very gluten free friendly. My girlfriend got gluten free bread, which I tasted and it was fantastic. They claim to be able to make 90% of their menu gluten free. Good job GCDC!

Overall good sandwiches. Only problem is the add on like bacon and tomatoes were super small chopped/diced which took away from a classic bacon and tomato grilled cheese sandwich. They should give you the option to have normal strips of bacon and regular tomato slices

This place was absolutely amazing! The outside eating was so cute! I was in DC for the day & I am so glad I found this place. I can’t wait to come back and try more sandwiches! Also the pesto pasta was super delicious!

A cold winter day was the time to finally visit GCDC. Hit the spot! Nicely toasted whole grain bread, perfectly gooey cheddar. Good value. Several options of cheeses and breads as well as toppings such as tomatoes, spinach, ionions, bacon. They also have mac and cheese and tomato soup. I didn't try those.

As a grilled cheese enthusiast, I had high expectations - and they were met. The Green Goddess sandwich was delicious. I added bacon - up on reflecting on that choice, bacon and pesto was a little oily, but YOLO. The GCDC sauce was tangy and a great pairing with chips. But that sandwich needed no help from any sauce. Easy parking. Attentive, friendly service. Clean establishment.

My husband and I visited DC for the first time and had this on our list to try! It’s super close to the capitol which is nice. It is a fun restaurant idea with customizable grilled cheese and mac and cheeses as well as pre made items on the menu! I LOVED how many options it provided as a vegetarian! So cool! They even had vegan meat as an option when you customize! You do order the food yourself and pick up at the counter yourself so lot a lot of customer service provided There’s some limited seating inside as well so you may have to take it to go or sit somewhere else outside if it’s busy

I got the Southwest Grilled Cheese and it was pretty yummy! I would’ve liked it better with steak or chicken and only a smidge of chorizo though, but that’s just me. We also ordered the BBQ and the philly and both were delicious. Each thing we ordered, knew what it was, and did it well. The bread was toasted perfectly and the cheese melted to perfection.

was on a weekend trip to DC from Miami and walked around all day and stopped by here to get some food because I haven’t had grilled cheese in a while haha. Went in and they have tablets to order food. The food selection is wide for their grilled cheese. I had a “pizza” grilled cheese with a side of Mac and cheese which were good! Chocolate and banana pudding as well were good. Was very content of the food and service is nice. The employees were kind to us, shout-out to roscoe!

Came in after walking around DC all morning and ordered a Pizza Melt triple Stack. It was very good and a great portion size. The whole thing tasted like a pizza I liked it. If you are dining in you have to use the barcode and pay online

I stopped here after walking around DC all day. I was absolutely starving. I highly recommend visiting this particular restaurant because I had an absolutely wonderful experience. The staff are friendly, the restaurant itself is very clean, and the food all tastes great. Not to mention it was super easy to order, and you could customize everything! Both the grilled cheese sandwiches and the macaroni and cheese are fantastic.

The atmosphere was great. Super awesome vibe great indie music and wonderful staff. So the food my husband and I received was very good. I didn’t have any issues with mine. However, that said, my husband ordered one of the build your own grilled cheeses. He found an employee hair in the sandwich so we asked for a replacement. The staff was excellent about it, immediately made him a replacement. He found another employee hair in the replacement sandwich but we’d left the area already and couldn’t return for a refund or anything. I would love to eat here again but finding two separate hairs in both of his sandwiches has kind of put me off it.

Awesome spot for a cheese lover. Delicious menu options including mac and cheese creations, awesome grilled cheese line up, and special cheese burgers. The food is always delicious and hits the spot, especially a favorite in the colder months. Easily accessible via the metro using the Farragut west station. Interior design is very warm and inviting with wood arches running the length of the space.

So I am in DC and wanted to try something different so I came here. The sandwich was fresh and hot. Tasted really good. If you like Mac and cheese I suggest you try it.

amazing food ! i sat at the bar and the bartender was so incredible. all I got was water and she refilled it like 5 times I was so grateful because it is HOT out! I heard her chat to some other patrons about alcoholic drinks and they all sounded amazing, and all the other patrons had nothing but praise for their drinks. I got the young american grilled cheese and it was just what I needed. a wonderful time!

I was craving a grilled cheese while on a trip to DC and when I did a quick Google search, this restaurant popped up first and I am so glad it did! I turned a 40 minute estimated walk into a 30 minute one so I could get a "build your own" grilled cheese before they closed. As soon as I walked in this afternoon, I was greeted and given instructions on self-ordering either at the front tablets or by scanning the QR on the tables. I used the QR to build my own (sourdough, cheddar, basil, chicken, and turkey) and got a cup of tomato soup to dip it in. I was so excited to be able to add additional protein to it; it was exactly what I was craving. They called out my name as soon as it was ready and it was steaming hot. They also serve alcohol; I don't drink but I thought that was an awesome business model. I wish I had a place like this up in Seattle! Highly recommend!

Pretty good. Cool concept. Certainly have some interesting grilled cheeses. The buffalo chicken grilled cheese was great but the Reuben was lacking. I do like that they serve beer and a limited selection of cocktails. However my biggest complaint would have to be the single bathroom.

The drinks were good. Food was amazing and hot. I like the self service idea and the bus yourself idea. Wish I had time to go back again since it was that good

We did a dine in, menu/ordering system was kind of confusing. I had a Buffalo blue and tomato soup, was very good. My other half had a build your own grilled cheese and a mac and cheese. He loved the grilled cheese but didn't really care for the Mac and cheese. All in all, it was a positive experience, which we would recommend and revisit for a quick lunch downtown.

This is not your average grilled cheese! After a full day of visiting memorials and museums, we decided to stop at GCDC for dinner. Staff was friendly and helped us with the menu. She was quick and our order was ready in 10 minutes. This place did not disappoint. Hands down the best grilled cheese I've ever had. All the elements on the grilled cheese were perfect. Thank you GCDC staff for the the excellent experience and for ruining my views on other grilled cheese places 😅🥪❤️

Nice new place for a REALLY GOOD quick bite and some cocktails. Sat outside with the wife after the Cherry Blossom festival. Just 20 minute walk from the Tidal Basin. The Reuben was great with a huge pickle. Washed it down with a Guiness. Wife jad the same with pinot grigio. Delicious!!

I have been twice now. Overall its good. I have had the young american and the cheese steak i would recommend the cheese steak over young american but both good. The GCDC sauce is good. The tomato soup is good. The pickle is very large. To much pickle. If you want mac and cheese get a signature mac n cheese and share with someone because the side mac n cheese just isn't good compared to signarure it was oily and hard we have had it twice now. Both times we were sad. Had buffalo chicken mac and cheese that was good. The banana pudding was good. So I would go back. Third time here and I am just mixed on my opinions on the place. Some things are good somethings are alright. I think I wouldn't return, but my girlfriend likes it.
