Absolutely incredible!! With its outstanding food, generous portions, and speedy service, it's impossible not to fall in love with this no-frills, hole-in-the-wall gem of a restaurant. I ordered two of their veggie combos to go: the special (which comes with six delicious items), and the deluxe (which comes with ten). I was genuinely shocked when the staff came out with one of those aluminum roasting pans usually used for catering for the deluxe combo! The portions are definitely beyond generous -- that was enough food to feed a whole family of four, and it was only about $20! There's a lot of overlap between the two veggie combos, but one thing is clear from both of these orders: despite the impressive speed of its service, Habesha definitely isn't cutting any corners on the quality of their food. Every item was executed to perfection; each of the various warm chickpea, lentil, and veggie dishes were packed with all the classic, comforting flavors and spices that make Ethiopian food so amazing. The salads were fresh and exactly what I needed to break apart the richness of the cooked dishes. And the injera was, of course, the foundation of the meal. They have imported teff injera, so you can easily make your meal gluten-free for a small added fee (or, honestly, even if you aren't gluten-free, I still recommend trying it out). From the quality of the food to the friendliness and efficiency of their service, Habesha is hands down one of the best Ethiopian restaurants in the District. To seal the deal even more, they're also open until ridiculously late -- so the next time you get the late-night cravings, why not give Habesha a try?

One of my favorite places for Ethiopian food in DC especially with low costs, good portion sizes, and incredible flavor. Recommend getting one of the combo plates for a good variety especially a veggie combo and a meat combo One purchases the dishes at the counter, pays the bill, and then can sit at one of the tables before a buzzer tells you when the food is ready. It is usually quite empty as most people do takeout, and the tables seat 4, but one can easily move them around or add chairs. Overall, very satisfied with the meal, the service, and the food!

Simply delicious and good value. Friendly service with plenty of Ethiopians eating here (actually 90% I'd say). Open view kitchen in a cosy environment. The wife loved it so much she ordered a second dinner! Would be back if I lived here.

Went for breakfast. The jumbo breakfast combo can more than comfortably feed two people! Absolutely delicious!

This is the best Ethiopian food I've had in the US. For reference I have eaten Ethiopian food in Chicago, Detroit, Atlanta, St. Louis, Sioux Falls, DC (another restaurant), LA, and Seattle. This is the closest I've had to the Ethiopian food I ate in Ethiopia. It makes me feel like someone dropped me off in Debark or Axum. Really makes me remember my time in Ethiopia fondly. No wonder this place is called habesha. Prices are more reasonable and you can customize your beyaynetu easily which is rare at most Ethiopian places. Can't recommend enough!

Asked them for a combo that offered a vegetarian and meat option and they recommended the 50/50 combo. I didn't know what that was but ended up going with a spicy lentil dish and this beef stir fry well done. I was pretty hungry at this point and when I went up to pick up my food from the counter I realized holy cow how big the proportions were. I didn't expect that much food for a single person. What I got was probably going to easily feed two people. The combo also came with like 2 pieces of Injera bread. I also realized after completing the last Injera that I am able to go and ask for more Injera with my meal. The food was so much that I ended up needing to pack the leftovers in a box and they were also nice enough to give me two more extra Injera breads to go home. What I also don't realize was how tasty the food is as leftovers. After I went for a late evening run around the city and returned back to the hotel I finished all the leftover lentil and beef stir fry. The Injera bread soaks up all those delicious spices and pairs so nicely with the lentils and beef. This is definitely one of the more memorable experiences of this trip to Washington D.C. I know am interested in finding some god Ethiopian food places back home in around the Los Angeles area.

As usual, the best eats you can possibly find in the city. If you are a carnivore, don't go anywhere else but here. The food tastes marvelous.I have tried just about every Ethiopian restaurant in the DC metro area. Amazingly this tops them all. I can't say much about there vegan dish but if you look at the pictures I took off the meat selection, it's really out of this world.

Feels like Addis Ababa!! This is my 2nd day in D.C. and I can proudly say D.C. isn’t complete without Ethiopian food! Being from Minneapolis, MN, I have to say D.C. took it to another level with Ethiopian food. I still love Ethiopian food back in MN but D.C. is different and would have to top this up with the best Ethiopian food ever (excluding Addis Ababa). I also tried the raw kitfo sandwich for the first time it was great!!!

Favorite place to get food in the area - Hands down. Delicious! Ethiopian options. Very reasonable prices - especially lunch specials . Large quantities. Feels like you're transported to a little Ethiopia.

We came for the kitfo and were not disappointed. It was amazingly spiced, fresh, and delicious. Injera was fluffy and slightly sour, really perfect. We also did the 6 dish vegetarian combo and each dish was tasty. Great Ethiopian food, one of my favorites yet.

Such great food and service!! Perfect for anyone that is vegan and/or gluten free, as they have a wide array of delicious plant-based stews and even gluten-free Injera if you request it (although it costs extra). Have been here twice already and plan to keep coming back.

Food was good . Service not so good. Waited in line for a long time before someone came to take order. My friend who was with me actually called in her order earlier and food was ready before we got there but there were so disorganized, it took them a long time to realize the food was already packed and ready to go.

Excellent Ethiopian food! Honestly, one of the best I've tasted so far. I am still thinking about it! This place would get 5 stars but I took 1 star away because of the loose covid protocols in place. The tables for indoor seating were dirty and not cleaned. Mask mandated for customers were optional (none of the customers except me and my friend wore a mask) and those making the food, one guy did not wear a mask and other wore it below the nose. Though the food was excellent, eat at your own risk.

The food (in our case Taste of Habesha) is usually excellent, but the amount can be a rip-off. Tonight (Friday after 9 pm) the bottom of the container delivered to us was barely covered with the thinnest layer possible. It was less than half of what we would have gotten at the restaurant. Don't do Ueber with them.

Delicious! I ordered Uber Eats from here and food was tasty and fresh, even after traveling across town. While it was a bit pricey through Uber Eats, you get a TON of food that keeps well for next day leftovers. I ordered the Special Veggie Combo (6 options) for a large lunch/dinner for myself and there was enough food for leftover lunch the next day. If you get the food yourself (not delivery) the value is unbeatable. The only slight drawback is the kik alicha (yellow split peas) was very very mild and could use additional/stronger spices.

I've had many excellent experiences over the years. I often call in my order but have showed up stating "I'm on a break at work and have to get back quickly, what do you recommend?" to excellent results. (The winner that day was the time-efficient and delicious 4 veggie combo). I really appreciate their later hours when getting healthful food on U Street later in the evening can be a struggle. Their meat can be fattier than the other Ethiopian restaurant I've used but I prefer Habesha's flavors and prices. I've only ever gotten take-out and can't comment on the dining room service. The take out area has a small storefront, cashier counter, casual tables and chairs, and view of the kitchen. The counter people are friendly and efficient. The vibe is transient but unhurried.

Probably the best Ethiopian food I’ve ever had (as a New Yorker reviewing the D.C. food scene, you know it has to be legit). The veggie platter is huge and absolutely scrumptious (the mashed beans are a personal favorite) and a great deal at $12. Plus, you know it’s going to be good when utensils aren’t an option. Pictured: veggie platter with the mild lentils, mashed beans, collard greens, and cabbage/potato.

I’ve really liked the veggie platter I’ve had here. The dish in my picture has some meat in the middle that I didn’t really like but I loved everything else around it. My particular favorites were the yellow lentils, collard greens and spicy potatoes. The price is great for what you get, highly recommend!

Taking all my friends here. Ordered #44 Veggie and Meat combo to feed 2 and had a meals worth of leftovers. HUGE portion, fluffy injera, fragrant herbs. When we asked for extra injera they gave for free. Cozy and clean vibes to eat in. Best Ethiopian I’ve had!

I’d give a 3.5. Bathrooms were disgusting. Some of the dishes you can find for better at other Ethiopian restaurants in the DMV.

Best Ethiopian food in DC/ the US. Sublime! If you're an adventurous eater like me get the special kitfo, otherwise the Millenium Tibs are the best tibs I have ever had. Out of this world! Not to be missed. This place is also an Ethiopian grocery store, so a great spot for cooks as well.

Simple, delicious lunch. No wait, and you get your food immediately. Very friendly staff were happy to make recommendations for my first Ethiopian meal. Set up like a small grocery store or takeout place in the front, but there is a sit-down dining section in the back. Not at all formal—you have to carry your food to the table and clear the table at the end (like a fast-food trestaurant, except delicious)—but it's very worth it for the price. A single $16 combo was enough to feed two college guys with a little left over.

Online order is a breeze. Food is amazing, eadily one of the best Ethiopian spots in DC.

We have eaten Ethiopian food all around the country. This is #13 we have tried. I think this one it the best overall of the places sofar. A couple of the other places had a dish that was amazing but this place had very consistently well above average food with basically every dish. I definitely would recommend going. I only wish I lived closer.

I ordered dine in they put it in Aluminium foil.I told them to change it they refused. Am so disappointed I’ll never go back again. Even the food it doesn’t test like it used to be and the customer service works in front had bad attitude, the kitchen guy was very polite….

First learned about this place last year with a random google search when I moved into the area. Not only do you get large quantities of food, but the prices are a steal. Absolutely unbeatable compared to other Ethiopian restaurants in the area. The food quality for me has also been consistently excellent. This might not be the place for you if you’re looking for something more formal and customer service oriented. For that, I might recommend Letena in Columbia Heights. But Habesha Market is perfect if you’re someone like me who just wants to order online and grab a quick takeout after university/work/sports or whatever else. Keep up the good work my friends!

Excellent Special Kitfo, mild or spicy. Consistently good quality, which is not easy to do during a pandemic. The salads taste fresh as do the desserts, baklava or tiramisu. I have always trusted the Habesha Market staff to do a good job and have great respect for them during this trying time.

The most convenient Habesha restaurant around Dmv. Kitfo Lebleb is always my go and dulot, it was good today. If you cool get raw if not lebleb is the best thing.
