True to description, it's a cafeteria in a church basement served by nice ladies. The portions are beyond generous for the price. I got a ribs meal for 15 bucks that's a good two BIG meals for me. Ribs were so good, meat just falling off the bone. Enjoyed the yams and the greens too. Didn't have a line when I went there at 11:30 on a weekday. Recommend for soul food on the area.

A friend brought me here 10 years ago and I never forgot this place. You know you're in the right place when you see people who look like your grandmother serving food or cleaning up. Feels Like Home 💜The cornbread tasted like pound cake, the croaker was delicious, Fried Chicken needed a little seasoning. I initially plan to get the cabbage but I could tell by looking at the dressing it was going to be so good , the dressing tastes like my grandma made it, mac n cheese was on point. The staff was very helpful & entertaining. A mask is required and they only take cash but there's an ATM in the rear of the cafeteria. Everything is very clean, will definitely be returning on my next trip. If you're a tourist the Metro is right there on the corner within walking distance maybe a block away

My favorite place to eat whenever I'm in DC. I got 2 juicy turkey wings, seasoned green beans, macaroni and cheese with cornbread moist and fluffy like yellow cake for $12.09 😋 They also serve breakfast. Everything made fresh by a bunch of older women who reminds you of your grandmother 💘 I love this place

Delicious food that tasted like it came right out of the home kitchen. The mac and cheese was heavy and packed with cheese. Ordering can be a bit tricky as its not really explained how to get a dinner plate versus other things.

You got to get there early. All the good stuff get swiped out real quick. I did get my ribs and my pork chops, so I'm happy but I wasn't able to try their mac & cheese or yams. I took pictures of the latest menu cuz the last one was like a year ago and things have changed but I would definitely try this place out again to try the seafood plate.

Every time we come which has been more evenings. This was the first breakfast meal here as a family. Nailed it! Delicious and plenty. Service is great, and relaxing. The cafeteria is clean. A little wait but it is worth the wait.

If you want some TRUE soul food, definitely check out this hidden gem. Me and family are from the south and when I tell you we enjoyed this food, it was exceptional soul food and the servers were quite amicable and helpful. Definitely pay this place a visit after a church service! Highly recommend

My family calls this place the "Hallelujah Food" place because everything is just that good. We have never had a bad tasting anything and we've had many different foods. Don't get scared of the long line, the food taste & portion sizes are well worth the wait. An excellent place in 2013 & even better almost 10 years later.

The food here was pretty good. I fried fish was above average and the sweet potatoes and green beans were superb. I wasn't a fan of the mac and cheese. It was only average. The service aas great and the dining area was clean. I'll definitely come back to try something else.

Home cooking in the church basement, served up by ladies with big spoons! Southern cooking at it's finest, ribs falling off the bone, fried chicken, fish, turkey-it's all here with Mac n cheese, collards, sweets, green beans, and I haven't named half of it. Don't miss the homemade cakes and pies! It's all delicious, double portions for half what you'd pay anywhere else. You gotta go!

The food was DELICIOUS....just like my grandma makes it. All of the food is homemade and cooked on the premises. The prices can't be beat! I will definitely be going back there whenever I have the time.

A little disappointed. I will try them again though because I got so many recommendations for them and the ladies a truly friendly. I think my visit was an off day they were probably having. I ordered breakfast. The pancakes were huge and tasty but they did not have any syrup 😂. I needed to cut some calories anyways so I spread some of their mixed jelly on it and it was ok. The corned beef hash was burnt and not very appealing to the eyes. The scrambled eggs with cheese was ok. It was not overcooked. As I said because of the overwhelming requests I had to try them and how friendly and expeditious the service was, I will definitely try them again.

I was very grateful to have been served by the very best of quality and care and such compassionate church members! That I grew up with and to know the food was excellently prepared and most delicious and very filling! I would like with all my heart to thank the sisters and the brothers for such a spirited and full filling blessing of the food? And I also would like to say being the brother of my sisters passing! That it seems like they knew just what to prepare and knew How I would have liked it very much! Peace and Blessings to all of your staff especially ms lady her sister and Ms Annie Ruth and the lady and gentle man at the door with the sanitizer! Along with her heavenly spirit? I am very grateful to all of your staff!,and again thank you very much stay blessed and safe!

Too much salt. Every flavor the same. SALTY. Canned greens, Mac n cheese, fried chicken; crispy, pigs feet; hugh, sweet potato pie, cake. On street parking. Might revisit.

Best soul food restaurant in the Washington DC/ Northern Virginia area! Cafeteria style located inside of a church.

Homesick & in need of some comfort soul food? This cafeteria style restaurant is your spot. I love the breakfast, which includes everything from you'd expect to chicken wings on Saturdays. I also love the turkey wings, fried whiting and salmon croquettes. My fav sides are the greens, cabbage and green beans. The cakes and pies are all homemade and never disappoint.

I have become a regular patron here. The food is good homestyle soul food. The church cafeteria is serving the community with their breakfast and lunch/ dinner menus. The prices are decent and the food is good. The ppl making it all happen are nice ,kind, friendly. . I usually see same people working so their dedicated and most if not all I believe are members of the church.

The Turkey wing dinner with rice (gravy)and mac and cheese. Turkey wings were dry but very well seasoned. The mac and cheese was okay. Rice was okay chicken gravy very good. The whitening fish not good not seasoned. Peach cobbler so bad to the point the guy at the ATM said to me "it's not good?" He must have saw the disgust on my face. The coconut cake, it was okay. Also, the place had a very long line of people. So the locals must like it. If you want some home cooked food this would be your place. The lady at the register did disappear for like 5 to 10 which was strange. But came back with paper bags. I am not sure why she was the one who had to go to the back to get them given the fact that there were several workers in the food area and walkiing in and out.

My son and I were looking for a good breakfast near the convention center that would be fast, cost effective, and good. Everyone here is so nice! From the servers to the customers, it was a wonderful experience. We got pancakes, eggs, grits, bacon, and sausage. All of the food was good and tasted like something grandma would make. We got a take out order, and the food was packed with great care. I would definitely recommend visiting this place!

I frequent this place a lot. It's a cafeteria and a church and it always brings back good memories of me growing up. But I went there yesterday and I just experienced a different kind of service. I got the breakfast platter with bacon, toast, grits, eggs, and I ordered a biscuit. That was one of the best biscuits I ever had 😊. But I need ketchup for my eggs, and when she gave me three packets I asked for more and she tried to charge me. For ketchup! I didn't say anything because I was in the house of God. And I also think they are cooking everything in old grease. Honestly it's the church atmosphere that brings me back here.
