Spent two lovely hours here today with friends. Enjoyed the guided tour - a ramble through Waterford's history with a knowledgeable and affible guide and a self paced meander through the upper floors of the building documenting Waterford's more recent history. Nice coffee shop and fabulous staff - Jacinta on reception was so helpful and really pleasant, thanks for the recommendation- the Parlour was fantastic 😊.

(Translated by Google) When you have so much history in front of you, you are stunned and just focus on reading and observing everything in sight. Everything around is beautiful and it is worth spending at least noon to see everything. (Original) Cuando tienes tanta historia delante, te quedas pasmado y solo te centras en leer y observar todo lo que esté al alcance de la vista. Todo lo que hay alrededor es precioso y merece la pena dedicar por lo menos mediodía para verlo todo.

Was not open until 6 as advertised until you read parentheses on door. Hours change in off season. Thank you for the swift reply 8 months later. Must have just opened the doors.

We did the new tour last Sunday. We were gobsmacked with the quality of exhibits the infrastructure , the tour design the 3D tour on the history of glassmaking in Waterford. The Contribution of Quaker families to Waterfords history of Glassmaking and Shipbuilding in its noble port is fascinating. The tour guide Teresa brought in all together very professionally. Beautiful coffee and cakes before and after in Bishops Palace Café was delightful Derek in the cafe is indescribable !

Great stop. The staff is super friendly (as is everyone in Ireland it seems). We enjoyed seeing the history of Waterford. They do a great job displaying various treasures and historical information. After exploring the top floor, we waited around for the afternoon tour. Miss Pimrose did a great job getting into character and taking us through the house. The 3d story at the end was fun and full of interesting facts. We also really enjoyed the glass items on sale by a local artist. He wasn’t there that day, but his workshop wear he etched everything was. It was neat to see. He had lots of beautiful work. We all bought at least one of his hand etched ornaments that were on sale for the Christmas season. This was a highlight of our day. We were all really glad we made the time to stop here and do the tour.

I had a free guided tour this evening as part of Culture night events. The tour was excellent and the place and tour were beyond my expectations. Thoroughly enjoyed my experience and highly recommend a visit to this tourist attraction in Waterford. Great 3D show as part of the tour. Houses the largest collection of antique Waterford Crystal in the world just to mention one of many things on display.

I visited this place and at that time the tour guide was said to be absent, so I took it alone, the lady on the reception, gave me directions to the many upper rooms. I read everything there with most dating from Georgian era. I must say, I was thrilled. Impressed by what I saw. I recommend this place for all those who long to re-unite with history

Visited the Medieval Museum in August and loved the experience! Opted for the tour with Donncha, who’s knowledge of Viking history and storytelling from the 13th 14th & 15th century invasions was impressive. The thought and effort put into the museum's colourful displays from vaults to vestments keeps your interest the whole tour. Highly recommend visiting this special place 😊

  • 5/5 Amy C. 4 years ago on Google
We didn't have nearly enough time here, but it was our while to have even a short visit! The guided tour was excellent; our tour guide showed us the highlights of the collection and gave us a brief and very amusing history of Waterford to put the exhibits in context. (Irish tour guides really do have the gift if gab -- he was not the first guide to make laugh while explaining history of tax policies!) The museum is built on some very old, carefully conserved buildings - this means a few scary stairs, and some rough floors. If you can manage those, they are worth seeing! But if not, there is plenty that is elevator accessible, including the amazing Cloth of Gold vestments.

A nice museum overall though some areas are a bit sparse or underwhelming. A nice walk about with good education but it doesn't have the must return factor.

This is a wonderful museum, a fitting gem at the heart of Waterford's historical centre. The 4D show is very entertaining but it doesn't stop there, with two superbly curated and presented floors packed with fascinating objects, art works, human stories, stories of a city, history from multiple angles, often new and unique. Highly recommended.

Visited here on Saturday 6th. Very impressed with the whole experience. The receptionist was extremely helpful and friendly. She recommended the Freedom Ticket which was good value as it covered 4 museums and walking tour for €15. We really enjoyed the re-enactment tour as it was entertaining and informative. Would love to have spent more time on the local history part on top floor. Will definitely be back again and will be spreading the word on Waterford Treasures.

Informative. Interesting history, especially after stopping by the Waterford House of Crystal across the street. Our tour was a bit small on account of the pandemic and time of day, but that wasn’t an issue since it just seemed safer. Our character actor / guide was very entertaining.

This was such a fun museum! Before the guided tour started, I was able to watch a master glass etcher! Was really great to see. Then the tour started and it was very very fun. I had no idea it would be done by a person in character! I smiled so much once I realized that. Had a great time listening to her and what I was seeing.

  • 4/5 Rae-Anne D. 2 years ago on Google
We did the Bishop's Palace as part of the combined Waterford Museums ticket. It was really worthwhile as it is a beautifully curated 18th century home. It is particularly noteworthy because of its amazing collection of 18th century Waterford glass, which pre-dates The House of Waterford's shift to producing crystal. It has the oldest surviving piece of Waterford glass.

Receptionist shouted at us saying you need tickets! Well if places are forbidden to enter then put a lock at the entrances where tourist are forbidden to enter. Tourist doesn’t feel welcome at all. First impression of Waterford! Where does it say I need to buy tickets? Entrance? They might as well lock the door and don’t let people enter before reading their rules of entrance on the internet.

  • 3/5 Bruce I. 10 months ago on Google
Confusing, disorganized place. Who was the bishop? Why are those paintings on the wall? What's with all the 1960s stuff on the top floor? Even if it was better arranged, it would still be pretty boring. Worst of all, we had a guided tour, and still don't get it.
