This is a hidden gem of tourism in Ireland let alone Waterford. It is a virtual reality experience where you go into a replica of a viking longhouse, sit down and put on a VR headset and headphones. Then it becomes absolutely outstanding. You find yourself sailing along with viking ships and having viking warriors talking at and through you. You are up in space with the moon and mythical dragons floating in front of you. And you monastery libraries as they write the history of the Vikings. They can only accommodate 10 at a time so advance booking is recommended. The only recommendation I would have is move to a larger venue. Every historical site should look to emulate this.

Great fun and a cool way to learn about viking history. Not really scary and suitable for families. Animation is pretty basic for VR but still immersive. Beware if you suffer from motion sickness, possibly not good for your stomach.

(Translated by Google) Four stars left The approximately half-hour virtual reality journey into the time of the Vikings gives you a brief introduction to the history of the Vikings in Waterford. The main focus is on effects and not so much on communicating facts. The cinematic representations are in my opinion not necessarily suitable for small children. Since they still participate, they often scare and therefore shout loudly. Annoying was also that the picture often hangs and then only one - at the time of the Vikings suitable - hourglass is to be seen. However, the staff (especially the viking guide) is very helpful and friendly.

I recommend this place to everyone. Unforgettable experiences. Great fun and nice atmosphere. Gorgeous setup. You can go back in time to the Viking Age, the founders of this city. It was great to be here.

This was fabulous!! The VR experience transports you back through time! A time when the shores of Waterford would have been lined with Viking ships and thatched roofs. The experience is made real by sitting in a little hut, like thingy, the story is narrated from the view of a religious historian and from a Viking. All in all, it’s some of the best 30 minutes you will spend in Ireland. Really well done, the staff was fabulous, the history available is superb. 👏👏🇮🇪

This 30-minute VR show was a joy ride. Absolutely recommend it if you are in Waterford. Tickets cost around 10 euro per person. It takes you through the rich Viking history and is a one time must have experience. I would recommend booking your tickets in advance as they get easily filled up. 👌

The reviews are right. It IS unexpected. And you won't really appreciate it until you try it. Right from the very beginning when you put on the VR headgear and you look around and no longer see your legs/arms but are looking around at what you believe is the viking hut that you know you're sitting in (makes more sense if you experience it yourself). It is very realistic. One review mentions that its potential isn't truly realised and I agree. There are some amazing flight sequences which really make you feel you are flying (or swimming under water) and there could be more of those. After those sequences it ends up in a room and remains there which seems kind of boring after the mind blowing flight sequences. The half hour goes really fast.

No booking via website… we called and booked for 2pm. We arrived in Waterford at 1pm and because we knew we still would have to eat, we started calling to re-book the experience. No one picked up the phone. After 20 or 30 attempts I left a message on their answering machine around 1:30pm. No one called me back. When we finally arrived around 2:30pm they were fully booked for the day, nobody knew I had called, nobody had picked the message. They said from 1 to 2pm is their lunch time which is not mentioned anywhere. What kind of touristic place is that ?!

Honestly one of the coolest implementations of VR I have seen. This is something anyone visiting Waterford should experience. I learned more here than at all other museums combined. Space is limited in each time slot as there are a limited number of VR headsets so you can reserve a time in advance or stop by and book next available but know if could be an hour or more in the future. If you are in Waterford?m, make sure you stop in.

I was a bit skeptical of this being worth the time and money, but it was the highlight of our visit to Waterford. Definitely worth it and I highly recommend it. It is a virtual reality experience that journeys through the past of Viking history.

This was amazing!!!! Not what I expected at all. Virtual reality at its best. Literally felt like I was either going to fall off the world or drown!!!! 😁 If you don't like heights or rats, close your eyes!!! Wouldn't recommend for very young children though. But was €10 well spent. Gifts are a reasonable price too. Well done to all concerned. Only downside was the lack of signposting - we walked right by the entrance!

Want to know what it was like to be a Viking in the year 917? Check out King of the Vikings, the world’s first viking virtual reality experience, on Baileys New Street next to the remains of an old Franciscan Friary. Really enjoyed it!

  • 5/5 Alita T. 5 months ago on Google
A fantastic and innovative way to delve into Viking history enjoying a captivating 30-minute virtual experience. The graphics were stunning, making the journey exciting. The knowledgeable and fun guide added to the overall enjoyment. Would recommend it! One suggestion for the place is to include more details about the specific location, as it the Viking house near a small tower or church. Taking a few minutes to learn about this setting would enhance the immersive experience.

  • 3/5 Caden L. 1 year ago on Google
Interesting multimedia experience. The people are passionate abput the Víkings of Ireland. The content is a story rather than history.

Blown away by the Viking, honestly thought I would have to leave with my autistic son as never used VR even though he burst to , I quietly told him and he his approach to my son saying I hear you have a special power and told how important it was was in Viking time relaxed him without him knowing had his VR on and he truly had the best experience as we all did will definitely be back

  • 5/5 Bruce I. 10 months ago on Google
What a great experience! This show was informative, interesting and most of all, fun! Makes me wish there were marauding Vikings today roaming around destroying churches.

  • 5/5 Occams K. 9 months ago on Google
Great experience. The staff were great, knowledgeable and fun to chat with. The VR experience was well worth the price of admission. I didn't realize the extent of Viking presence in Ireland before this. If you're passing through, I'd recommend doing the tour here.

  • 5/5 Albert B. 1 year ago on Google
For me personally, a revelation. For 25 minutes you are transported to the past. Thanks to the building, which imitates a feast or ritual hall, thanks to the seating on real sheep skins, thanks to the spirit guide in the form of a Viking, you feel as if you are in the centre of events from more than 1000 years ago. Thank you very much. More attractions like this. And how not to love Waterford?

  • 5/5 Markus 1 year ago on Google

Amazing probably best exhibit I went to on my travels In Ireland. VR experience that lasts about 30mins Staff super friendly and the host is passionate about vikings very knowledgeable.

  • 5/5 Michael G. 1 year ago on Google
This is a 30 min virtual reality experience. There's a lot of history packed into these 30 minutes. The staff do a great job of role-playing their part. The VR graphics are a little dated, but the info is interesting.

  • 5/5 Philippa M. 9 months ago on Google
A great VR (virtual reality) experience for adults and children alike… beats the rain! Strongly recommended! I recommend calling to find out the times of the next show. You can book your 30 min session in advance to avoid disappointment.

An AMAZING experience for the entire family. Our little man is 6 and while the experience is designed for kids a little older, he was blown away by the VR and learned so much about Vikings as it was such a unique way of gaining information.
