We had not planned a visit to this place, but on the way to the abbey we decided to check it out, as we were looking for a place to rest and relax for a few days. This is an amazing place! Beautiful scenery of the river and wooded hills, cozy houses, swimming pools, spa and much more. We went inside and talked to the very friendly staff. Also, having looked at the pages of the official website, we plan to come here for a few days.

We had a wonderful stay of three days. The cuisine was excellent. The only complaint I had was that in the library (sitting area) they do not provide complimentary tea or coffee. If you want something you must pay for it.

Hovey Manor is a well established well reviewed Inn . I myself have stayed at Hovey well over 15-20 times in 35 plus years. So obviously I love going. Having said that in the last few stays I am pretty surprised and shocked to deal with the Front Desk staff....they are from France and can speak almost zero English !. I mean literally almost no English at all working a Front Desk !!! The Townships is probably the most bilingual area of Quebec besides the island of Montreal. So I can't understand hiring unilingual people from France to work the Front desk !?!? I am bilingual but why should I be the one as the guest paying high prices to adjust for the poor Front Desk Staff. I travel for a living and stay in Hotels on a weekly basis. Every Hotel I stay in has Front Desk staff fluent in many languages . Bare minimum at Hovey your Front desk staff should be perfectly bilingual in English and French .....For a 5 star relais its a given. You have guests coming from all over the world, USA, Canada etc Would get 5 stars otherwise across the board...... Beautiful Inn. We went into the Tap Room for a Drink, excellent manager in there, great Bartender and a waitress I have seen for years and years there too....as it turns out she has been there 33 years !!!, real sweetheart . side note.... still in Construction on my visit for new pool etc.

Recently stayed at Manoir Hovey in early February 2023 and had a great first experience. There was a bit of construction going on as they were renovating their spa and parking but the service, hospitality, and food certainly made up for any slight inconveniences. We stayed in a little room that over looked the lake which I'm sure in the summer and fall is just stunning. We enjoyed both breakfast and dinner at the main restaurant and we're blown away specifically with the dinner portion. Service was 10/10, food was 10/10, and the entire experience was simply wonderful. Thank you Manoir Hovey for such a wonderful memory!

The hotel is very special with great service and unique ambience. This time I discover one of the cottages they have, the Dragon watch a 3 bedroom house from 1898 with scenic view of the lake, fire place and kitchen. The best part is that you can use the hotel services and have a discounted dinner at the excellent Le Hatley restaurant with a fantastic wine list, or The Tap Room pub. Massawippi lake (frozen now) and trail Massawippi as well are amazing places/options to enjoy the views.

Simply an outstanding property, we already are planning our return trip! From the warm greeting and property tour overview from our valet to checkout, the service was on point from all of the staff and truly was what one would expect from a Relais & Chateaux hotel and restaurant. Our room, 28, was very comfortable and had a private deck overlooking the lake. The bed linens, pillows and towels were all luxurious as well. Restaurant reservations are a must in the summer and our meal was outstanding from start to finish, impressive use of local ingredients at dinner and breakfast. Nathan, our server, was amazing. The new spa is gorgeous. I had a 90 minute facial with Megan that was one of the best I’ve had. Make sure to check out their brand new facilities for steam/sauna/hot tub and cold tub that overlook the lake.

this was our fourth stay. we love this place. most of the rooms are comfortable and some gorgeous, we didn't want to leave our room. the new pool and spa is amazing and the service is perfect. many of the same faces which i always see as a good sign that the staff like where they work. that's important to me. the food is excellent. we enjoyed every meal we had. the pool team is excellent, great service. we ate in both restaurants and were happy as always.

Had an awesome experience for a birthday dinner. The service was impeccable, super friendly and knowledgeable staff. There is an outdoor dining area for a dinner with a view. The place is slightly remote so it's harder to get to but that makes the place more quiet and intimate for any special events or date. Their poutine is a must try, crunchy fries and delicious sauce that makes it very tasty.

I can’t say enough good things. From the friendly greeting from all the front desk staff when we arrived to the outrageously great meals to the best massage my wife has ever had at Le Spa. An absolutely fabulous weekend away. We were oddly thankful the weather wasn’t that great as it gave us a chance to use the working fireplace in our room and have a really cozy weekend of spa relaxation and walks around the area. A perfect time. We will be back for sure. We didn’t get nearly enough time to explore the local towns and experience all that the Eastern townships have to offer. Well done Manoir Hovey! You certainly have earned your fabulous reputation.

This property is truly outstanding. It is a bit out of the way but well worth a visit because of the exceptional service and features. I would recommend as a destination - that is this is a place that is worth the visit even if you have nothing else to do in the area. My wife was interested as it was on the Penny (i.e. the Louise Penny - Author) trail. For me it was just a great destination with one on the most exceptional restaurant experiences in North America. Go to be pampered with exceptional service throughout the property or just for the outstanding food experience. We did not leave enough time so we will be back to swim in the beautiful pool and take advantage of the newly built spa. For a place in a country setting there really is so much to do that you need to stay at least two or three nights and we will be back to do that soon!

Service was attentive and thoughtful. The entire staff was kind and welcoming—not over the top, but just the exact amount. The location on Lake Massawippi was sublime—the water activities were included in the rate and easily accessible (kayaking, canoeing, paddle boats, stand up paddle boards). Intimate, comfortable, and a throwback to how old money vacationed.

I loved my vacation there. The renovations that the site did were wonderful. Beautiful calming. Service is great, everybody is nice. The food tasted good. I can't wait to planned my next vacation there!

Manoir Hovey is proof that uncompromised excellence is a recipe for success. Our stay was pure bliss, from arrival to departure. Everything was made easy notwithstanding an important construction project at the entrance. Our room with a balcony facing the lake was an exercise in tasteful decoration and amenities. The service at the bar and in the Hovey dining was equalled by the high quality of the food and its presentation. A delightful experience in every way.

We came for lunch, not as guests of the hotel. The food was amazing as always, friendly service. We were lucky to have seats on the terrace overlooking the lake. In autumn, it's a sight you do not want to miss!

Beautiful. We stayed in the cabin with a screen porch. Worth the money. Big Louise Penny fans so got the whole Gamache experience. One person in our party is blind so renting the separate cabin where we could park right next to it was a huge help. This was recommended to us by the booking staff. We also took the tour offered in nearby Knowlton.

Manoir Hovey is a truly special place. Between its history and the immaculately-maintained grounds, along with the amenities (paddle boat, kayaks, canoes, tennis/pickle ball courts, spa/nordik cycle), we didn't have enough time to do everything we wanted to over 2 nights/3 days. The staff were incredible (I will note that the spa receptionist; while pleasant, could have been more mindful and attentive: we checked in for the thermal experience 1.5hrs prior to our scheduled treatments, but she walked us down to the waiting area for our service and then told us to wait. She didn't seem to grasp that all we wanted was our locker bracelets, but that was just one situation with one staff member while all others were perfect/without fault). Despite the very minor issue, we absolutely loved our stay at Manoir Hovey: the nature, the wood-burning fireplace, the service everywhere (save for spa reception), the private hot tub (which was spotless and set to 98 degrees, as requested, due to pregnancy), and the food. It was incredible two nights and just what we needed/wanted for our Babymoon! We would very much like to return in the future and would recommend the resort without a doubt. Hopefully the few minor issues can be sorted.

This hotel consistently rank in the top ten best hotels in Canada and after spending thanksgiving week-end there I must say that the reputation is fully deserved. The service, the food and the rooms are exceptional. The recent addition of the spa with dry and steam saunas, hot/cold baths, salt rub and relaxation rooms makes for relaxing stay indeed.

Had a wonderful time at Manoir Hovey. The service is outstanding at every level. Beautiful setting on the lake. Excellent food in both restaurants. I should have asked the name of our waiter Friday night in the tap room. We were a group of 8, he was outstanding and made the night special. Beautiful rooms, spotless and well appointed. The construction was well managed. Visually it affects the property but no disturbances. The service and discount more than made up for it. Hope to return once the new spa is completed. We were very pleasantly surprised how accessible the area is from Boston. Everywhere we went was surrounded by beauty, welcoming people and great food.

Beautiful rooms and grounds. Service is excellent and spa coming shortly! Food is very good.

Hotel and our stay was pretty perfect except for two issues. I wish restaurant staff had not ignored our requests for low-sodium options / versions within the 'Menu découvert'. I'm a cardiac patient, went to bed dizzy and slightly nauseous that night from what was supposed to be a world class meal. No one asking for low salt options is doing it for giggles, guys.

We enjoyed ourselves and I would highly recommend. Most staff were wonderful and incredibly attentive. The grounds are breathtaking! Rooms splendid! There were a few "minor"  negatives that I need to mention. Hopefully management could fix so future stays could be impeccable. The lady at reception not sure her name (hair in pony) who greeted us as we arrived and departed was problematic, with a very unpleasant attitude. She was not friendly, nor helpful, and she seemed completely uninterested. We experienced this both when we arrived and departed. Both me and my wife were taken aback by her behavior. A few other points that are essentialy small but rubbed off wrong. As platinum members we were privy to 100 usd to spend on food and drink. We were told this is equivalent to 120 cnd. Even banks give you more (todays rate was 1.362).  Secondly as she was going through plat benefits she seemingly intentionally skipped multiple useful benifts such as free breakfast for 2, and some others. Thankfully these are points we are aware of. Another irritant. I paid upfront in full. At checkout they tacked on a tax which I was not aware of before booking and was not made aware of as we checked in. I do want to stress that this place has a very unique and special vibe, and would love to revisit.

Just brilliant. We booked through our amex FHR benefit, and they upgraded us to a chalet. It came with a $100 food benefit, and we got dinner at the tap room. We also got breakfast the next day at le hatley and that was amazing and too much food. In terms of the room, we were in awe with the view (summer in that chalet must be a dream), beds were great, the bathroom outstanding with the best bidet ever. The tub was beautiful as well. The way they treated us was also very nice and the staff were highly bilingual which was very helpful for us. Highly recommend this hotel.

I have travelled a lot! The staff has been fabulous with the manageress taking the time to visit our room to ensure that all was well a first time experience for me. Additionally the food the rooms the view are all 5 star. If you want a classy high end experience Hovey Manor is the place to visit Steve C

A relaxed, lakeside resort that confidently represents the Quebec experience. From the French speaking Canadians to the duck egg breakfasts, Manoir Hovey feels like a quiet French getaway. The staff all seemed to care about the guests, even asking about my injury and providing ice when needed. Even though the Québécois cuisine didn’t include many intentional vegan options, the chefs were incredibly attentive and made vegan dishes when requested. They informed me when foods weren’t vegan, and even served special 🌱hors d’oeuvres for the vegan guests.

The rooms and grounds are lovely but the food and service in the restaurant left to be desired. Even though we had explained that we had a stroller when making our reservation there was no care put in reserving a table for us that would work. We were instead offered a table in a secondary room which was empty and we weren’t shown any sympathy from the main waiter. We even asked if we could get a chair with an arm, which would help me carry the baby and ditch the stroller and were turned down. I normally wouldn’t be so upset about small details like this but it’s not the level of service I expect from a Relais et Chateaux. Not to mention we had been booked into a room on the last floor in a building with no elevators, forcing my husband to carry our heavy stroller up and down steep stairs. On a positive note a special thanks to William at reception who went out of his way to help us.

Location is beautiful but thats where it ends. Not sure how this place is 5 stars but the service is far from being in that category. To start, the welcome was very cold and arrogant. Then to our surprise, we had a multitude of bugs in our room (lady bugs, spiders and some other creature) when we informed the reception they were quite indifferent and did not seem to care. I mentioned it again while checking out but the lady did not seem interested in fixing this issue. Second problem was that there was a hair in my plate during dinner. I called the waiter quietly to inform him, he apologized, took my plate, came back with a new one with only the remaining piece of filet mignon that didn't have hair on it. So I paid for a full meal but only got half. This simply should not happen when you charge these prices. Finally, we had reserved massages at the hotel before leaving. While the massage was really good, the hotel charged us twice. Once when checking out and another time on my credit card. I called them to get that sorted out and was supposed to get reimbursed for the second charge, but I am still waiting almost a week later. We really wanted to love this place as the area is gorgeous but nothing was as we expected from a 5 star establishment.

Beautiful location. Very nice and clean rooms. Big, jetted tubs. Polite staff. On-site dining also very good. During our October 2022 stay, some noise from construction.

Absolutely breathtaking is an understatement! The location on Lake Massawippi makes for such a calming and charming experience. The service, from front desk to the restaurants to staff in and around the hotel, was impeccable. The attention to the detail our room was second to none; we adored the fireplace, a very romantic touch. The food at Tap Room and Le Hatley was DIVINE, some of the best food I've had the pleasure to discover and enjoy. This is the perfect luxury getaway if you're looking for some peaceful R&R outside the city. Will definitely be back!

The service is the most professional that I've experienced in a long time. The rooms are exceedingly comfortable and well appointed. The view of the lake is gorgeous. The food in the main dining room is a gastronomic experience and the pub has delicious oysters and burgers. If you want to have a perfect get-a-way the staff at Hovey know what they are doing and they care if you are happy. That is rare these days, n'est-ce pas? I was with my husband but I am writing an article about solo travel and this Inn will be featured as one of the best!

Beautiful setting, nicely decorated room, restaurant food is good however overpriced, dinner for two including a bottle of wine $505. Prix fixe doesn't include coffee which honestly is unacceptable, breakfast $23 for 2 eggs and ONE sausage link. Nice place to stay however better off eating in North Hatley or Magog. Towels should be soft to touch and not used to exfoliate.

I love this hotel. It’s located beside a small lake. The view is stunning. The on site restaurants are both delicious. And the best part is they have 30% off right now Sunday through Thursday …so if you don’t mind some unsightly views it’s a fantastic deal

Beautiful older resort on Lake Massawippi. We decided to make a stop here on our way back home from Quebec City. We had heard about the place while reading our Louise Penny books and after seeing the reviews, wanted to check it out. The resort is beautiful, but our timing was not ideal as many summer outdoor activities had been shuttered for the season and the winter activities had not opened up yet. But the restaurants were open and local places were available for us to look around and explore the area. Our room was excellent, but much smaller than what I had hoped when I booked online. Also the construction underway for the new Spa and pool was much bigger than expected, but it did not inconvenience us too much. We will have to try a visit with the family in the summer to take advantage all that this place has to offer because the lake was beautiful.

We enjoyed lunch on the outdoor patio. It was very well serviced and the lunch was delightful. The cold pea soup deserves to be patented, it was simply delicious. A beautiful setting to enjoy our mid day break. Thank-you.
