The "Air show" beautifully seen here. Sun, sea and boat matching to the pictures were awesome. I would say best sport for a picturesquare view for sun and sea with other objects too. Place for landscape views of sea, human and building portraits too, children playing, small shops and street food stalls as well. Same time for stargazing, recreational activities, bird watching ideal. Easy parking, shopping around, hotels for lodging and food just around the corner.

If you are travelling to SriLanka and wish to indulge in the SriLankan culture then I suggest you to visit this place. All the backpack travelers will find this place to be quiet interesting. When you arrive at the place you will see many couples at all the available chairs all over the beach with umbrellas. Can't blame them Srilanka doesn't have many open parks and spaces to just be. You could have a good view of the sunset with while watching the waves hit the shores. Now to the more interesting part FOOD !!! Yes this is where you get all the local food and if you are a foodie then this is the place. First off the Isso Vadai , its a fried vadai with some prawns on top with a secret chutney sauce and onions and carrot. Its a specialty in Sri Lanka and a must have if you are at Galle Face. Besides the famous Isso Vadai you could try the vadai with crab as well. They also have a wide range of pickles and olives induced in spicy chilli which will make you sweat :) The potato chips come in various varieties and are so delicious that you will definitely order again. Now what more than enjoy the culture and mix and talk with the locals. Also do try the bombay muttai it looks like cotton candy but its the lankan version of it and tastes similar but is different and thicker in texture and taste varies. Word of advice if you are a luxury traveler and aren't interested in culture and heritage kindly stay away rather than going there and complaining about the place. #natnzin

Galle Face beach aka the Galle Face Green stretches for about 500 meters along the coast of Colombo. Its said this used to have occupied a larger area in the past but due to commercialization of the city, it has become smaller in scale. Today, it's a popular destination for most of the people who lives within Colombo and suburbs for various activities such as kiting, playing and a place to relax and enjoy some signature street food that are available at the stalls in the area.

A good place to walk and relax. Kids can play on the green grass as well as play with Kites. Jogging and exercise can be done as well. Crowded at weekends. Some junk food stalls are there as well.

A very calm and serene place to rest for a while from the hustle and bustle of Colombo. Take a nice walk or sit on the bench. Everything is soothing. Better to visit before or after the sun and when there are not many people to take the most of it.

A best place to visit and relax your mindset. Best time to visit is the evening. In afternoon the sunlight will be really strong. There's enough space to sit. You can be mindful while looking at the sea as long as you like, since there's no closing time or no fees for entering. Eating the foods from the stall is not recommended. Parking space will be very limited and finding a parking spot is really difficult

By far my favourite place to relax in Colombo. Love the positive vibe that the Sea Breeze provides. There are number of benches where you can just sit and enjoy the sunrise/sunset. You can also go for a walk or a jog along the pathway. You can fly a kit or even do Yoga at the beach. There are several stalls along the way to satisfy your seafood cravings at a reasonable price. Ample parking space is available for all the types of vehicles with a small fee being charged. One of the scenic spots in Colombo.

I went to this beach in the morning time ,the beach in colombo galle, nice to see, more people do walking in the beach site it's a good place to walking ,I saw that the peoples came in car to walk in this beach site, I enjoyed the breakfast in a shop here but not hygienic , most of the people eat bun and drink coffee here The garbage and birds remnants are in the roadside and benches In the evening you can see so many variety and so many options of street food and sea foods in the shops ,but cost are little high in some shops You can fly the kite in this beach ,the sunset is so awesome to see really. Nice place to be alone and you listen the wave sounds is so nice You can see that more people came to this beach in the night time with their families/couples. You can see the fort city and other hotels view from the beach site, also you can see playing kids, people seated in the grass But be careful when you swim in this beach because the waves are hard in the evening and night time I recommend to visit this beach in the night time

Galle Face is a 5 ha (12 acres) ocean-side urban park, which stretches for 500 m (1,600 ft) along the coast, in the heart of Colombo, the financial and business capital of Sri Lanka. The promenade was initially laid out in 1859 by Governor Sir Henry George Ward, although the original Galle Face Green extended over a much larger area than is seen today. The Galle Face Green was initially used for horse racing and as a golf course, but was also used for cricket, polo, football, tennis and rugby. Galle Face Green originally extended over a much larger area than exists today. Records indicate that it was bounded to the north by Beira Lake, the ramparts of Colombo Fort and the city's cemetery (established in 1803), to the west by the Indian Ocean, whilst to the south by the Galle Face Hotel (established in 1864, although the original building on the site was a Dutch villa) and to the east by St Peter's Church (consecrated in 1821). The Galle Face Green was initially laid out by the Dutch as a means to enable their cannons a strategic line of fire against the Portuguese. One version of how the name Galle Face is derived, is that it is from the original Dutch name for the fortifications, in that the gateway which gave access to the Colombo Fort was called the Gal Gate, as it faced southwards to Galle and faas means front, so it literally means in front of the fortification that faced toward Galle. Another version is it is a corruption of the original name for the area's rocky shoreline, Gal Bokka, Gal being the Sinhalese for rock and that Gal Gate actually meant rock gate. In 1856 the then Governor of British Ceylon, Sir Henry George Ward (1797–1860) authorised the construction of a 1 mile (1.6 km) promenade along the oceanside of the Galle Face Green, for ladies and children to saunter and ‘take in the air’. The promenade was subsequently completed in 1859.

Waves of the sea will revive your mind and heal your body too. Don't forget to buy some street food before starting your mental journey because high spicy street food will make your rest mesmerizing.

The next day we went to see Galle Face Beach next to the Shangri-La One Galle Face beach complex. It is a quite famous beach over there where tourists from all over the world either reside at the five stars hotels nearby the beach or just as we did in OZO Colombo (that was some miles away from here).

Wondering where this outlandish sounding place is located? Let us tell you a little about Galle Face Green before we go on to tell you more about the Sri Lankan beach. Located in Colombo, Sri Lanka, Galle Face Green is an urban park spread over a humongous 5 hectares of land. Galle Face Green in Sri Lanka is now considered to be one of the largest pieces of land that is accessible to crowds inclusive of tourists and regular local visitors. On one end of this stretch of land lies the Ceylon Intercontinental Hotel while on the other side, you’ll see the magnificent Galle Face Hotel. The Galle Face beach is a beautiful strip of land covered in greenery, surrounded by tall towers and buildings. The beach is frequented by the locals residing in Colombo, especially on weekends as it makes for the best spot for children to play around and for families to spend some quality time in the midst of some great food and a little bit of sweet chaos.

One of the most successful international sporting events conducted in Sri Lanka with over 800 participants from all over the world taking part. The opening ceremony was graced by the Minister of Tourism and Minister of Sports.

I went with a few of my friends on Friday night after having too much to eat from Aluthkade. The breeze and the sounds of the ocean was very calming. The place wasn't as packed as i expected. But still lots of people are walking. Many street vendors and food stalls to grab something to eat. There were few stalls which were sunken to the ground. I believe they have washrooms there, but not sure

A good place to hangout with family and friends on a leisure day. The galle face is usually crowded as it's a popular beach among locals and regular visitors closer to Colombo. I highly recommend visiting the beach around 5pm if you are a photography enthusiast, though there's not much of a scenery to be captured it's good for taking portrait of people and indulge yourself in street photography. There are food trucks and snack dispensing vendors on the street for a quick bite or if you wanna have a full meal, the One Galle Face mall is right across the street (food court of the mall is in the Lower Ground Floor)

This is the place to relax and enjoy with family. Galle face green is one of the most visited if not viewed place , when you visit Colombo srilanka. Beautiful sunset to watch at the beach with proper footpath and many food vendors along the beach front. One Galle Shopping Mall is just opposite for those who prefer indoor dining restaurants. Good place to hang out in the evening to enjoy the sea breeze and sunset view, where is within 15-20 mins walking distance from city centre of Colombo from World Trade Centre Colombo.🤗

There is ample parking divided for all vehicle categories. But you have to pay for your parking. Its just a small price. Get your family and enjoy the grounds. Enough of entertainment available. Iconic and historical beach front of colombo next to the newly constructed port city and the colombo port. Galle face is home to sri Lankan street food stalls. Galle face is surrounded by the most reputed hotels in Sri lanka. Galle face also provide a fantastic view of the colombo skyline. It's a great evening outing with the family where kids can enjoy with kites as well. Now you can also cross the road and visit one of the primer malls in Colombo the shangri-la group's One Galle face mall. Galle face is a large beach front which stretches across close to 1km. It is also great for an early morning jog if you are around colombo with the morning sea breeze cooling you down.

Best place to have some leisure time with family. Previously before covid pandemic there were some nana’s food stalls. To have some Koththu, cheese koththu, Fried rice, rotis etc.. But now they all are closed and cleared. People can see many Colombo city icons from this place. World Trade Centre, Lotus tower, Taj Samudra, Kingsbury, Galadari, Shangri La hotels are some of them. Main thing is this location situated next to Colombo - Galle main road.

Family beach! Lots of people gather here occasionally due to the popularity of being the nearest beach to the capital of SL; Colombo. There are small street food huts along the pedestrian route. This beach is surrounded by many iconic places and buildings such as president secretary office, one gall face & port city, Colombo. Currently undergoing a partial maintenance.

The Galle Face Green was initially used for horse racing and as a golf course, but was also used for cricket, polo, football, tennis, and rugby.

The Galke Face Beach itself is a long stretch of golden sand with calm waters, There are also several food stalls and vendors along the beach where you can enjoy delicious local snacks and refreshments. One of the unique attractions of Galle Face Beach is the sunset views, which are truly spectacular. The beach faces west, which means you can watch the sun go down over the Indian Ocean in a blaze of orange and pink hues. 😍

If you want to see the Indian Ocean in person, visit Galle Face Beach in Colombo. This tourist attraction is a very famous tourist spot in Colombo for foreign tourists. Galle Face Beach is a wide green field that is right next to the Indian Ocean and is very often used as a place for sports or leisurely walks for tourists while looking at the sea. Visit Galle Face Beach in the morning to see the beauty of the morning sun on the sea

It's kinda crowded so it's not the best place to go if u are somewhat cluster phobic. Also it has to be more clean there's litter everywhere you look. Sri Lankans have to be more self-disciplined and the government also has to implement a proper strategy to keep this area and other populated places clean.

One of the best places in Colombo to walk in for relaxing afternoon while experiencing a scenic sunset. Plenty of people are coming to relax in the evening with their families to experience the sunset and enjoy some sea food from local street food stores. Also, you can watch kites on sky while you are wandaring around the place.

Another version is it is a corruption of the original name for the area's rocky shoreline, Gal Bokka, Gal being the Sinhalese for rock and that Gal Gate actually meant rock gate
