Awesome restaurant! The drinks are amazing, the bartenders even whipped up a drink that wasn’t on the menu. The wagyu burger was incredible.

Went here for a late dinner. My mom and I were sat very quickly and our server was super friendly and helpful! My mom had the Steak De Burgo Poutine which she very much enjoyed. And I had a delicious impossible burger with their house garlic aloe.

We came in late on a Friday evening. We were seated right away as there weren’t a lot of people. Our waitress was very friendly and made sure we were well taken care of. The music was a little loud and a lot of the beer options were in cans, but it was a nice space. The food was really good. The brussel sprouts appetizer was delicious. Tart with the bacon balsamic vinaigrette, but balanced out with the saltiness of the pork pieces. We split the short rib grilled cheese and it was fantastic. The bread was crispy on the outside and the meat, onion and cheese melted in your mouth. The touch of arugula was a nice freshness. It was the first real fall evening, so we got the roasted squash soup as our side. Yum. Creamy and delicious. The cornbread croutons added such a nice spice and the pepitas a nice little crunch. We don’t get out to Waukee much, but I would come again if I was in the area.

Stopped here tonight when the Irish Pub we sight out on St. Patrick's Day was closed. There was no wait to be seated and we really liked the smokey smell (were told it was from the woodfire grill). We started with Bacon Wrapped Dates which tasted great but we're a little small compared to those I've eaten previously. The Beet Salad was delicious (see picture) as was the OJ Gets Dreamy beer (see picture). Update after another visit: Started with a Tropical Blender IPA milk stout beer followed by a Raspberry Milk stout with my meal (see pictures). For dinner I went with the waitress's recommendation and ordered the Original Bacon Jam Burger (see picture) and would highly recommend all of them. Food is good and a little on the pricier side, I enjoyed the beyond meats vegan burger with sweet potato fries. The wife's WAGYU beef burger was ok. Overall menu is a smaller than most places in particular the appetizers. Service and staff are friendly but not as attentive such as asking if your empty soda or water needs a refill and not providing napkins.

The food here is incredible. I really couldn't find any fault with anything we ordered. The one glaring negative issue is the loud atmosphere, it makes it very hard to hold a regular conversation. They have live music but it is incredibly loud. Make sure you get dessert, worth the wait.

This is a great place for excellent food and some great beer options. Very unique for the greater Des Moines area to have over 80 beers from across the nation available in cans or bottles! So fun to sample these unique bees that you couldn't.othetwise find in Iowa! My wife and I ordered a Cobb salad and side of brussel sprouts and couldn't eat it all! Don't miss it!

Absolutely amazing. Best food in Waukee I'd even say even Des Moines. Had a wague burger with their truffle fries and they were. By far. The best. THE BEST IVE every had. Most certainly will always come back here. Staff was amazing and helpful and quick. The atmosphere is beautiful and relaxing. If you live in the area or are passing through you must stop by. Great selection of beers as well.

We've been here twice: once a few weeks after opening, and once in 2018 nearly a year later. Unfortunately, they haven't improved. Service was slow on both occasions. The second time was during a lunch, when they were not very busy. Took 20 minutes to even take our order, and another 30 minutes to get food out. It was just 2 people and we had a simple order. As I sat and watched the kitchen, there were consistently dishes sitting on the pass for 10-15 minutes or more before getting sent out. On our first occasion, the food was completely non-seasoned. No salt whatsoever. No salt in the fried chicken breading, none on the fries, none on the fried brussels, none in the mash. Terribly bland, of course. Building design is nice, but a little darker than it should be. There's a large "living wall" made of 100% artificial plants, and the little plants on each table are artificial. Decor doesn't match prices. Menu is nice and could be promising, if they could figure out how to run efficiently and consistently put out properly seasoned dishes. As it is, their sandwiches priced at $13-$15 do not match the value of the dining experience received. I don't think we'll be back unless they can majorly turn around their game, but having already struck out twice, I don't think I'd want to wager my $40 to try again.

This is the best place to eat in Iowa. I’ve dined from coast to coast and around the world and this is the only place in the Midwest I would recommend. It’s quality is unmatched. It’s staff are friendly, real people who create an air of welcome and warmth that is deeply appreciated by this happy guest. To not mention the quality of the creations on the menu would be a crime. Their food is hand crafted on a plate joy to be savored by anyone who enjoys real food made right. Thank you to this glorious establishment and it’s staff!

Great variety of beers. Cannot recommend the wings enough! Bread pudding is an excellent finisher to any meal. I love this place

Both times I've been here my food was incredibly messy to eat and just tasted ok, even slightly bland. Otherwise, the atmosphere is great and the service was amazing! I'd actually come back again. Good beer menu too.

Fun, eclectic food and bar menu. As I understand it, almost everything is homemade (even the ice cream). Brussel appetizer is a winner, as are the salads, burgers and chicken sandwich. Probably has the best quality draft beer selection in the area, always new and unusual rotation on tap.

We had a wonderful meal and a great waitress. It was my birthday so she brought me a cookie baked in a pan with ice cream and whipped cream. It was a great place to have my birthday dinner.

We were in town from Kansas City visiting family and had dinner. The food was awesome and we cannot think of a place back home that’s even remotely close to Gastro Grub & Pub! The menu is great and I feel like the place overall is very inclusive to all appetites! Really enjoyed everything we had. Our apps were the fried babybels, and the steak deburgo poutine which were both amazing! Two of us got the bacon jam burger and the other got the short rib grilled cheese which were all amazing! My husband got the new fashioned which he really loved and I got a non alcohol pineapple cherry spritz! I really loved that they had non alcoholic options other than just soft drinks. Our waitress was awesome!! We loved that you could see the kitchen from where we were seated, when business started to pick up it was really cool to see the kitchen buzzing and working together to pump out the food fast! We will definitely visit again when we come back to town!

Tonight was my first time dining at this absolutely wonderful place. What a fantastic experience!!! Beet salad with grilled chicken was delicious!!!!!Probably one of the best dishes I had for the past year! Our servant Chris provided us with amazing service. He was quick, informative and very attentive. I was so impressed and beyond happy that chef himself found time to stop by our table, so I could express my appreciation of deliciousness of the food he prepared! Hands down, great restaurant! Would definitely recommend !!!!!!

1st of all, we sat at the bar & the bartender was excellent. Very knowledgeable about all the drinks & friendly. The Brussels sprouts were great. Very disappointed about no ‘happy hour’ since Covid. Of course, I read the reviews saying how great HH was & there was even an icon at the bottom of the online menu of a happy hour drink. I’m recommending Gastro Grub & Pub bring it back, I think it’d be great for business + also update website & reviews.

I was not expecting the food to be as good as it was at this restaurant. We ordered a lot of appetizers and a couple of entrees as well just to try a bunch of different things. The mac and cheese was amazing. The poutine was unbelievable. The french fries tasted amazing by themselves, and then there were different dipping sauces - pesto and sriracha - which took it to another level. When we have friends and family come in from out of town to visit we will definitely be taking them to Gastro. I highly recommend this restaurant. The service was also excellent. Any questions we had about any of the food items they explained very well. We were very pleasantly surprised and will definitely visit again.

The food is EXCELLENT! I loved the Wagyu burger and truffle fries so much! The service was great and sitting out on the patio was so beautiful. You will not be disappointed going here.

The food is spectacular but, the staff members are truly the best part of this establishment. And to round it off they are more than happy to accommodate for food allergies! I recently went here for date night with my significant other as we saw the reviews were awesome and we are local to Waukee. Sometimes we can have issues with eating out as we both have nut allergies. After informing our waitress(I regrettably do not remember her name) of our nut allergies she offered to go talk to the executive chef directly to make sure there were no nut based products in the dishes we were going to order. And on top of that, they even used a difference cook top location and utensils to prepare our food. When we talk about our nut allergies to restaurants we often feel bad as we feel it can be taken as us being "difficult" or "high maintenance" but this waitress explained that she was actually used to this because she had a roommate with allergies at one point too. And wanted to make it very clear to us that we were NOT being difficult at all and she was more than happy to help with our accommodations. This establishment has my business for years to come thanks to the awesome waitress and executive chef. If the owners/managers read this. Please be sure to recognize her as she truly went above and beyond that evening.

Disappointing. Service was slow and our waitress seemed to be the only one really working. There was no Thanksgiving poutine which is the reason we chose to eat here. The fried chicken sandwich and the bun were burnt and almost inedible. French fries were average, child's plate was just a great chunk of plain grilled chicken, although the asparagus with it was yummy. Turkey pot pie soup with biscuit topping was delicious as was the dessert, pumpkin roll & cookie spoons, topped by praline caramel ice cream with dates. The latter being out of this world! Lavendar lemonade cocktail was smooth and flavorful and Barq's root beer is always great! The take home steak poutine was okay, but we've had better in different places.
