We all know the quality of healthcare has run off the edge of the cliff, yet Aspirus Hospital found a way to one up the whole system. Where to start, feels like you are in a factory. Each person has one specialty and won't navigate out of their box. The hospitalist lacks basic ability to take what the patient is telling them and apply that to the treatment plan. They also can't plan out 2 steps ahead. Instead, they take the symptoms and put them in a computer program that tells them the treatment plan. Even when said treatment plan does more harm than good. They are slaves to the administrative system that dictates every step for them. Same symptoms 3 times landed me with ER visits. Difference is the first 2 had a symptomatic Covid results, given steroids for a day and sent home. Third time was a charm, no covid and oh we need to admit you. Facility was dirty. 2 to 3 hours for food and we are talking pre-packaged muffins. Nurses coming in smelling like the perfume counter at Macy's. Staff sitting at computers looking for places to live or things to do, no wonder it takes an hour to get a tums. Nurses withholding medications but marking you down as having it. Like wow they are bold. One nurse could swear was a meth addict, seen unmedicated kids with ADHD more functional them this nurse. You get new staff every 12 hours even though the same staff is working the same area, so you have to explain to each new person every 12 hours for why you are here and this and that. They get the small stuff all wrong and whole process seems like a money-making scheme. Makes you wonder how bad they mess up the big things.

I got a call from Aspirus billing today notifying me that they were merging my deceased husband's account with mine and I am now responsible to pay it. It has been 34 days since he passed and none of the 3 people that I spoke with offered any sympathy or condolences for my loss. I just found this to be very cold. I understand policy but could they offer just a little compassion. Isn't "compassion" even part of their slogan?

Went to ER for pain in back at 4:30 a m. Got seen about an hour later as I walked around ER waiting room in agony for an hour. Doc ordered tests, ordered morphine 2 hrs later. Then went home without telling me test results. I sat in ER room until 10:30 a m. Finally called patient liaison asked if my doctor had gone home in shift change and what my results were. She said he had gone home. Said she would take care of it. A doc came in a half hour later. Said I needed my appendix out. By 7:30 p.m. I went home with no appendix. Surgeon was great. The ER doctor for night shift, not so much. 15 hours I was there. Thank you patient liaison.

I don't normally write reviews but Aspirus is probably the worst at getting back to patients about anything, you can never get a hold of billing, yet they expect you to pay on time? I'm not paying a bill when I have questions, I even used there chat system and they just view your messege and they don't respond, I honestly think this is the worst customer experience I have ever had and I work with customers. I should not have to wait over 7 business days just to find out they read my message and did not get back to me.

My mom was at the ER on 4/28/2022 from about 1pm to 5pm. After getting discharged and waiting for transportation to go home, front reception lady in her 30s or 40s rudely asked my mom “When are your people showing up? We are getting busy.” There were plenty of chairs around for anyone new going into the ER. To the rude reception lady, be patient like a circle(something I constantly tell my 5 year old) and learn to be more compassionate and respectful towards others. Do better or get the fudge out because healthcare has no place for people like you. To the other people who work with rude lady, I know every one of you witness her behavior and turn a blind eye. You are also the problem and you need to stop enabling. Aspirus, your people obviously need more compassion training. Compassion can improve staff efficiency by enhancing cooperation between individuals and teams and between patients and healthcare professionals. Empathy and compassion to be associated with better adherence to medications, decreased malpractice cases, fewer mistakes, and increased patient satisfaction.

If it was possible to give the aspirus ER zero stars, I would. I was there 2 days in a row with horrible muscle spasms and nerve pain. Left in just as much pain the first night as when I came in, after waiting for 5 hours. The Dr gave me about 30 seconds of his time and never physically looked at my body. The second day I went back after seeing a family physician who urged me to go back so that I could get an emergency MRI. After waiting another 5 hours it was after hours for an MRI and I wasn't enough of an emergency to qualify for the on call staff. I was put in a cubicle in what was the ambulance garage. It felt very thrown together and dirty. The Dr once again did not bother to physically look at my body. Both times they pumped me full of meds to try to quiet me down but obviously didn't care about my well being once they could get me out of the building.

Rude and inconsiderate staff. They do not do a good job being advocates for their patients whatsoever and patient care is almost non-existent, especially for the nurses in the med surg ICU (especially Wendy) and the doctors (especially Dr. Patel). As a nurse myself, seeing how the hospital staff treated my family members, how they were dismissive, disrespectful, how the staff talks down to you, avoids interaction, has no care to provide any updates or information on a patient's status to family members, they clearly also had no care in the world to obtain information on their own patients to help do their jobs and provide the cares that the patient needs, they don't even know their patient's baseline when they have been a patient in that same unit for days, how the doctor doesn't feel the need to explain any situation unless you're a medical professional or have a medical background because it's a waste of their time (which clearly shows how bad of a doctor you are if you can't break down an explanation to individuals on a level they fully understand) was very disgusting and definitely a shock to see how terrible some hospital cares could be. It's disappointing how multiple family members have been patients or have seeked cares at Aspirus for 20 plus years and now it's very questionable if they should maintain their cares at this facility. Especially since there is also no cultural consideration at this hospital. It definitely is not a hospital I'd want to work at, obtain cares from or feel safe sending my family members unless I want them neglected and to be disrespected during their visit. It's very frightening how some hospital staff really just don't care to do their jobs. Now I know why we hear the things we hear about Aspirus.

The staff I met on my visit were all exceptional. I was treated with respect and caring. A thank you to Aspirus for staffing appropriately for today's environment. Minimal waiting and checking on me periodically to see if I needed anything. Nick was great. Sharing a little bit about himself and his family. Felt like home.

Struggled with mental health my whole life...lost my job a few months back and have been struggling since...had an appt to try to get help...they took my blood pressure and I told my doctor about my issues and he referred me to a mental health professional. It was over 2 weeks before I heard back from anyone...when if finally received a call they told me it was a $3900 appt. Needless to say I can't afford that, so the struggle continues. Plus today I received a $200 bill for someone to take blood pressure and notes...thanks aspirus.

The billing department is very rude/snotty and pushy. After talking to several people, as well as personal experiences, it seems like nothing is communicated, no responses to messages and you can only set up payment plans that are ridiculous. Explain how it takes months to process a bill but when it posts to your account you have to pay it in full the day it posts or are threatened with collections.

If I can give 0 stars I would. Happened 2 years ago but I'm still traumatized from it, but finally have the courage to share. I tested positive for COVID-19 and was admitted. Put into a room without running water and nurses were so rude, I can hear them gossiping about me from out side my room. ER doctor told me I had no signs of COVID pneumonia but I was transferred to UW Madison due to health insurance purposes. (Since I live in madison for that purpose) UW Madison doctor told me my x-ray scan clearly show that I have COVID pneumonia and will need to be hospitalized for several more days. Makes me question the competency of their work at Aspirus ??

If your wondering why there is an Opioid epidemic look no further. Gave my daughter one for some bruising. When I told the nurse our family had addiction problems he argued with me. Be careful people, this place obviously cares more about the drug companies.

I'm calling in the middle of the night because I obviously could not sleep because of my poor blood circulation. I have mentioned that I am feeling pins and needles sensation and my fingers were numb this morning, I have mentioned that I don't have insurance. It's impossible for me to sleep... because of this problem, I'm calling for help and they're telling me to come in because "you seem pretty upset," and they cannot "evaluate over the phone." I get it, it's about making money instead of helping somebody that's in serious need of help.

Billing is awful. Currently I apparently have two accounts with outstanding balances. I am making payments on one and they want to send the other to collections. How does this make sense? Update. They did work with me to get bills on one.

Management of PSCU were seemingly anti military and adamant on not working with military schedule. Not only were they seemingly stoic in their management style, but some could not even afford the courtesy of picking up the phone to talk about or resolve any arising issues; Almost as if they felt too superior. The one place that pushed me to make the mistake of apologizing for wearing the uniform, a thing I will NEVER do again! Communication seems to be an issue with "hear says" being more of the order of the day on that floor. Everyone says "thank you for your service!" But not everyone actually means it!

This happened 9 years ago, but it still hurts to think about it and I regret that I haven’t done anything to keep the hospital accountable at that time. My mother had a hip surgery (it was a repair surgery after the previous surgery done by a Bone and Joint clinic doctor failed. The implant broke within short time and my mom was scheduled for repair which was done brilliantly by another doctor, this time from Orthopaedic Associates, as I refused Bone and Joint). My mother was 85 years old, non-English speaking and was still under influence of anesthesia. I was staying with her in the hospital days and nights, doing lots of CA jobs for her. Due to her restlessness I couldn’t sleep for over 24 hours and I decided to go home to catch up on sleep. My mother was due for discharge next day. Before going home for a sleep I specifically instructed the facility that my mother needed total supervision, Someone should be in a room all the time, I asked for this, because she wouldn’t call, wouldn’t press a call button or anything. She was not in her right mind at that time due to dementia plus adverse reaction to anesthesia. I know hospitals have personnel for cases like this. We lived in Medford at that time, so it was quite a drive. I got a call from the hospital around 2am informing me that my mother fell off the bed and they want me to come immediately. Half groggy I drove to Wausau. When I arrived to my mothers room, two girls were sitting outside (!) eating chips and chatting. When I asked, what happened, they started telling each other, you tell her, no you tell her. In short, my mother fell of the bed, trying to get up and broke a femur (thanks god her new hip implant wasn’t broken, the doctor did a great job!). The doctor was called for a an additional surgery and my mother had to stay in the hospital for another week. NO NONE from the administration ever approached me to discuss the incident or offer sympathy. Only a nurse was very nice and sympathetic. This was a case of bad negligence from CAs and the hospital. What’s more, the hospital BILLED THIS TO MEDICARE!!!! As a result of this incident my mother wasn’t able to stay at home alone and I had to quit my job to take care of her. Leaving her in a nursing home wasn’t even an option. After this my mother’s health declined (she wasn’t able to walk at all after this). And she died after two years. She was old, but this hospital negligence fast forwarded her end. Not speaking about me. I gave up an office job that I had, I became my mother’s caregiver and it eventually burnt me out (I was in my late 50s), after my mom died it was hard for me to find another job. I regret that I did not sue the hospital for negligence, but… I was told at that time that the administration would have turned the tables on the doctor. The surgeon was brilliant, I didn’t want to leave him with this. Now I know that there was a case for a court. People should know that this hospital doesn’t care much about people, but cares about money!

I came in with an infection in my leg. After a 2 hour wait, I called (while standing next to the nurses desk) called our insurane to see if Marshfield clinic was in our network. So I called them(Marshfied) & low & behold, they got me into triage. Now another hour has passed & I asked them how much longer. Awhile was their answer. It has now been 4 hours & I am still waiting. But the good news is a 1/2 hour ago, they opened a second bay of rooms... but yet here I STILL sit.

If I could give negative stars I would. Went to ER for food related allergic reaction. Check in desk gave me so much attitude because I was struggling to talk and give her my information (my throat was swelling!). Had my vitals taken about 15 min after arrival, went to go sit in waiting room for another 30 min. Decided to leave - figured if the DR's don't think having an allergic reaction is serious, then I shouldn't worry. Took two days to breathe normally after incident. Only went to Aspirus because it was way closer than going to ER at Marshfield Clinic in Weston. Don't even waste your time coming here, make the extra drive elsewhere if you can - Marshfield Clinic ER is 1000% better and quicker to service emergencies. Some ladies in the waiting room were saying how they were in there 4-5 hours already.

Went into labor instead of calling my doctor right away like I requested at 4cm dialated they waited until I was 7cm dilated and by that time it was too late. Ended up having a random doctor deliver my baby whom I had never met. He didn't come in to the room until baby was crowning. His nurse named Casey was rude during my laboring. her demeanor changed when talking to nurses and even my family. My children and I will be going to Marshfield clinic. Hopping for better care. good luck aspirus u have really gone off the deep end the last couple years. I am sure you will be loosing many many more patients due to lack of care.

I had a surgical procedure done by Dr. Wilfley. The doctor and the staff at this hospital were wonderful. Great pre-op nurse named Kim! Anesthetist staff William Holm, Nikki and Sarah were great! Everyone listened to my concerns and answered my questions. Would have no problem recommending this hospital. Thank you all!

I spent over 5 hours to be seen by a doctor. If I made the decision to go to an emergency was because I wasn’t feeling well. I was told I could leave on my own will but if I had left my insurance would still pay for my visit.

I do not recommend Aspirus Wausau Hospital. Lack of repositioning of patients and no follow-up on complaint made to the "Director". A bedridden and unresponsive family member stayed in the IMU for five days in early July. Towards the end of his stay, my mother, who is a light sleeper and who had been staying overnight with him since, did not see him be repositioned the entire night. The next morning, she also saw he was still in the same position he was in when she went to sleep the night before. Patients are to be repositioned every 2 hours (give or take, understandably). My mother does not speak English well, so later that morning, I shared this with the new shift nurse and asked to speak with the nurse manager. Hours later, Lindsey Graff, who introduced herself as the "Director" came to speak with me. Online research shows she is the "Clinical Outcomes Nurse". I shared this with her. She stated an investigation would be done and she would follow-up with me. She stated it would take a few days. As of today, it has been over a month and I have not been contacted yet. The day I spoke with Lindsey, was the day prior to his discharge. Might I add, during our conversation, she said to me "it sounds like you guys might not be here with us much longer." Perhaps she was hoping we'd forget and let the issue go. I later learned from an acquaintance that a family had a lawsuit against Aspirus Wausau Hospital for a loved one who had stayed there and developed bedsores. Additionally, our family member was in the ICU prior to being transferred to the IMU. Although their care in that department is far better than the IMU, we noticed a lack in repositioning there as well. They did not reposition him every 2-2.5 hours until we kept reminding them too. Thankfully, all the medical staff who took care of our family member were kind, but other "help" that assisted were very rude to us. Unfortunately, the ICU only has visiting hours and does not allow overnight stays, so we have no way of knowing how our family member was taken care of during the night. We were also given conflicting information from different medical staff while he was in the ICU.

Er in July. went in for waking up with period but I’ve had a total hysterectomy so when you’re bleeding and not supposed to be it’s an emergency. critical wbc of 2.9. Ct showed lesions/nodules in lungs and iliac mesenteric. The doctor stated “according to your March labs there’s been no change”. I have NEVER been seen at this hospital before so what (HIPPA) records did they get into?!? I was sent home with an antibiotic for a bacterial UTI. With records resulting that I never had a uti. Went back for not feeling good again last week-August. They ordered a HCG pregnancy test which I will be billed for -knowing that I had a total hysterectomy. Critical Wbc NOW at 2.8. They set me up with the cancer clinic. Um do I have cancer? Because you failed to mention this in the ER. I think regardless the circumstances you had the responsibility to treat and it’s called neglect and malpractice when you don’t. This isn’t considered an emergency to you but to me it is. This should have been addressed in July.

All of the hospital staff.... nurses, doctors, cna's etc were AMAZING! They took the best care of my cousin. They were patient and kind but honest. This hospital was a blessing from God.

Been going to the same Dr since I was 13, I'm 34 at this last physical his nurse asked questions and found out I'm vegan(have been for 8 years).. they treated me very differently from that moment on.. was the least thorough physical I've ever had.. and when I went back for a follow up with a different doctor since I felt some things were missed they laughed at me.. Of course they were happy to charge me an additional cost for that second visit.. I will never go to Aspirus again

I was in the IMC unit one week ago. The doctor's and nurses gave me what I needed. Very nice people. They are our essential workers. We need to appreciate them. I want to give a special "Thank You" to Saya Pascayella. She went over and beyond her her job to help me out. And she did. These people are caring and kind. And we need to thank God for them. Thank you again Saya.....

Some of the worst inpatient care I have ever seen on the inpatient oncology unit. Critical medication was scheduled at 1 pm. Never given until 8:30 pm only because I inquired about it. Cords from EKG in ER were left on and I found them wrapped around my husbands neck many hours after my husband arrived to the Inpatient unit only because he couldn’t turn over…When my family was leaving for the evening, told the nurse at the desk we were leaving because he was impulsive with having to go to the bathroom and was confused due to high calcium, also stated the room number to her and she said “oh, the jumper”. Absolutely unacceptable. Very understaffed. Myself and other family members were asked to help move him up in bed…. Unacceptable. Told multiple times that they were busy or behind. Filed a complaint and no one has followed up with me yet. This was in October. Very sad.
