My wife and I have always stayed at this hotel to celebrate special occasions. The hotel itself is beautiful and in an amazing location in Ashdown Forest. The Hotel always offered outstanding service, so despite the cost, we didn't mind paying that bit extra Unfortunately, since the last time we stayed, standards have declined somewhat. On arrival, the receptionist was not very welcoming or professional, which unfortunately was a theme which continued throughout our stay. The dinner service was particularly poor. I had to get up from my table twice, in order to ask the waiter for soup spoons and bread, which despite being promised, were not brought to our table. Our main course was not cleared away for at least half an hour after we had finished and this was only after we had to ask a member of staff to remove our plates. They brought us cheese and biscuits for desert, instead of the 'cheesecake' we had asked for, due to the waiter not having a great command of English. On top of that, they now add a service charge for everything. They even added a service charge for a glass of wine I purchased at the bar. I'm 'old school' and believe it should be up to the customer to tip for good service but now it appears it just used as a tax to pay the staff. It puts you in an awkward position if you don't want to pay it, due to poor service, but when you're staying at the hotel for a relaxing romantic weekend, you don't want to have to make a fuss in order to have the service charge removed. Such a shame, as this Hotel used to be a treat for us but I doubt we will be returning.

Booked for a two day team offsite and had a fantastic stay. Rooms are beyond generous and the grounds are stunning. Meeting facilities are adequate and service at all times was fantastic. Food was great too. Good variety and super tasty. Might take a tad longer than you would like, but we are a big group so it’s understandable. Totally recommended for professional or personal stays.

Had Christmas dinner. Excellent service from the staff. Stayed one night, found the room small, however nice Big comfortable bed, nice bathroom. This place is very old, so there are no lifts, we were on the top floor. Breakfast very enjoyable.

We went for Afternoon Tea, a party of 6. We have done this many times. The views are outstanding. We switched to the inside as it was hot, and the umbrella only offered partial shade. We ordered and waited a while for drinks and food. The sandwiches were a little stale, not sure if the hot weather was to blame, the bread was not fresh. The scones were amazing, but not nearly enough clotted cream for 12 scones. 2 small pots of cream. We paid for more! We were not terribly impressed with the cakes, they were very fancy with unusual ingredients. No one came back to check on us, and I had to go hunt for someone to order more cream. I found the staff all outside. The biggest disappointment was we left half of the cakes and wanted to take them home, but they had run out of boxes. The cakes were too squishy to take home in the small piece of foil they offered. So they were left behind. When you pay over £200, a cardboard box is not too much to ask.

Lovely peaceful & relaxed environment. Staff friendly & helpful. Amazing food. Whole place had a very still & spiritual energy, having been a nunnery in the quite recent past. Worth checking out the chapel with extraordinary stain glass window. One of the managers showed us & gave some history which is really interesting. I think the hotel do a great job of looking this heritage building. Thank you for a great mini break

We ordered soup. Took ages to come. Without the rolls. Waited and waited ...no rolls and soup got cold. Young girls didn't really know what they were doing. Kitchens fault. But reception were good and resolved the issue. Thank you

Came for a friend's wedding and what a stunning place especially against the autumn scenery. The staff were super friendly and catered to our needs. I stayed the night here as well and the rooms where lovely roomy and warm. Used the spa facilities here as well to end the stay and was relaxing. Will come back again!

Very nice hotel set in a beautiful part of the country. Ashdown Forest is on your doorstep with great walks and scenery. Staff are good, rooms are very nice and comfortable and there is onsite parking. Didnt use the spa facilities or pool but everything looked great. The online restaurant served a good basic menu and the waiting staff were very good. Only downside was the head chef berating a member of the waiting staff through the hatch twice in front of diners. That aside the overall experience of this hotel is recommended.

Beautiful old building situated in stunning grounds, we stayed in a gorgeous large suite with high ceilings, balcony and fantastic views of the forest. Enjoyed a delicious lunch, service a little slow but food was fantastic. The golf course is a little rustic, particularly the back 9 which are very short but unforgiving if you're not accurate. Back 9 greens in poor condition, but front 9 are OK. Will definitely visit again

New Years Eve. Thank you to all the staff at Ashdown Park who made our New Years Eve one that we will remember. From the moment we arrived every detail had been taken care of. Dinner and entertainment excellent and well planned. Room large and comfortable. It did not go unnoticed how hard the staff were working to make this a truly memorable stay. (even the next day at breakfast!!!). Thank you all and Happy New Year.

Daughter purchased an afternoon tea for me for my 50th birthday. Extremely disappointed with service. Left to our own devices for the majority of the time with all staff chatting outside in corridor! Was a real let down and not the treat we had hoped for.

Such a beautiful hotel in fabulous green beautifully kept surroundings. Enjoyed our stay immensely. Staff are so lovely and can't do enough for you. The building is spectacular such beautiful architecture. The restaurant was lovely and very busy which did make the service a little slow but food was good and worth waiting for and we were there to relax so not too much of an issue. The room was huge and clean with super shower and spa bath. Had use of spa pool included in our stay. Plenty of parking on site. Would definitely recommend for a special occasion as is expensive but definitely worth the money. N.B. Our sat nav did not find the hotel using the post code and we got a bit lost so had to use google but found our way eventually.

Today my partner and I visited Ashdown Park for afternoon tea. We decided to arrive early so we could walk around the grounds before our food. We were met by a lovely gentleman from the concierge team, he directed us around the grounds and gave some historic facts about the hotel. The grounds are well kept and absolutely stunning. If you get a chance make your way to the church. After this we went for our afternoon tea, our host was Donna whom I must say was wonderfully lovely and She really made our experience personal. The afternoon tea was outstanding with such lovely cakes to finish off. We will be returning and plan to stay and try to spa area out.

No doubt a beautiful building in the most beautiful setting. Sadly the service, room and country club let it down! Breakfast an absolute disaster, cold food, had to chase coffee and toast along with many other guests. Seemed the staff had no guidance and were wandering around with trays of coffee and toast with no direction on where to go so just took it back to the kitchen! I asked for a drink on the terrace and waited over an hour, asked again and still no joy so just gave up. We went for a game of snooker but had to wait whilst a staff member (as nice has he was finished his practice session on his own) again we gave up! The spa area is perhaps the worst I have ever been to, changing facilities basic, no robes or footwear and you can really only stay in the uncomfortable pool area in your swims. Not an opportunity to chill like other establishments I have visited. Cleanliness was not great in the hotel either. We had cobwebs in our room, stains on the floor and un openable windows. The coffee and tea making area had spills and not fully stocked. Although I must say as soon as I mentioned it to the cleaning staff it was rectified immediately. The final straw for me was using the communal toilet by the bar and the door was covered with black handprints as though someone had rifled through all the complimentary papers! After a shoulder barge to get in I sat on the loo to look right and see what looked like blood smearer on the cubicle wall. That was it for me, we left pretty quickly after that. Such a shame, we were treated to this stay the weekend after getting married and if it wasn't for us being super happy newly weds I think it would have cut even deeper. Certainly not somewhere we will be returning to sadly.

A disaster from arrival to departure. When we made our booking the reservations coordinator booked our table for dinner at 8:30pm. This didn’t seem at all unusual for a very large luxury hotel near London on a Saturday night in peak season. We arrived at the hotel at 8:20pm and explained to the two young men on reception that we needed a quick check-in so we could get to our dinner reservation on time. They were both very polite but were struggling to log into the computer system. It therefore wasn’t a speedy check-in and it was 8:40pm before they directed us towards the restaurant. Unfortunately they had directed us to the wrong one, and another member of staff then showed us the way to the brasserie. When we arrived at the brasserie at around 8:45pm we were told that they had been waiting for us and that we needed to order immediately because the chef wanted to go home. We ordered pizza on the basis that it would be quick and easy, and when we finished the main course asked for the dessert menu. We were told that “dessert wasn’t available because the kitchen closed at 9pm”. When we politely expressed our surprise and disappointment that a luxury hotel would stop serving its guests at 9pm, the chef reappeared and said he could sort something out. A waitress quickly presented us with the menus, bluntly saying “What do you want then?” so we just ordered sorbet because it felt that asking for anything else would be too much of an inconvenience. During the meal we had asked three times for some tap water which never arrived, so eventually I went across to the bar myself (where four members of staff were busily chatting amongst themselves) and asked for some. One of the young men in the group was very apologetic for the oversight, but by this point our evening had already been a disappointment. We’ve stayed at £50 per room hotels and experienced far better service than we did at Ashdown Park for eight times that price. After this rushed and awkward dining experience we retired to our family room at 10pm for an early night. Sadly this was not to be as we were kept awake for the next few hours by booming music which I presume was a wedding or some sort of function happening in the grounds outside our window. At no point during the booking process were we made aware that a noisy event might be going on until midnight – in fact the website boasts of a luxurious and ‘tranquil’ setting which was the main reason we booked. Even the checkout process wasn’t smooth because all computer systems were down. I specifically asked for care to be taken with the bill, and yet the invoice I received was packed full of errors and didn’t seem to contain a single line item that was correct. I spoke with the hotel manager when we returned home and he acknowledged all these failings and apologised, but only offered to upgrade our room if we stay there again. He blamed Brexit for everything that went wrong! In terms of value for money this is one of our worst experiences. Plenty of other 4* and 5* hotels still seem able to provide good service despite Brexit...

A surprise birthday afternoon tea from my daughter and her girlfriend. Cannot not fault service in any way. All the staff were professional, friendly and courteous, nothing too much trouble. Tea and refreshments delightful, a real treat. The weather was warm and sunny which allowed us to enjoy the beautiful grounds. Thank you for a delightful afternoon.

Despite the lovely location and facilities such as the pool, spa and tennis courts, the hotel itself was abysmally poor. Between a rude and completely unexperienced staff which took over an hour to bring us food and kicked us out of our table while we still had our bags and food there and rooms which were miles from being worth the price we paid. This place has potential but as of right now i STRONGLY don’t recommend it.

A lovely time had by all. THANK YOU.

Really enjoyed our overnight stay. Dinner was superb. Friendly helpful staff. Good breakfast. Super location. Only criticism for us is there is no lift and the ground floor rooms are in the East Wing which meant we had to walk outside and back into the main reception for the dining room and bar. My husband uses a wheelchair and it was quite a way along corridors to our room with various doors which were difficult to push open. Our executive room was beautiful but no walk in shower just a bath/shower which my husband couldn't use. Overall beautiful hotel lovely staff and food but sadly not suitable for us in the future.

We had an incredible time at Ashdown Park for my birthday. The staff are lovely and friendly, the grounds are stunning and the room was brilliant. We enjoyed a perfect massage and spa before having a drink in the sun. The dinner was exceptional and the atmosphere and service was top notch. Can't wait to go back.

A beautiful old castle vibe but not up to the luxury label--mattresses old and lumpy (lots of springs to be felt), no extra touches like bathrobes or makeup wipes. Lots of narrow stairs to navigate with luggage. Forest Brasserie risotto was inedible. Breakfast service was lovely.

Thank you for helping me to organise an excellent surprise long weekend birthday celebration for my partner. The hotel team was really supportive and provided unexpected complimentary perks including a room upgrade and breakfast. We will definitely come back… The location is perfect to escape from the rush of the city and plenty of opportunities to explore the history of Ashdown Forest and close to East Sussex attractions like Glyndebourne or vineyards.

A 3 star hotel in a 4 star wrapper. The excellent staff are the only things that save this extremely overpriced hotel. When you are charging over £200 a night , it's not acceptable that things like a room safe are broken, half the TV channels ( bbc1 etc ) don't work and you have absolutely no sound insulation in a room. In the east wing rooms all you can hear is people tramping up and down the corridors , doors banging and the lift rattling. The "spa" is great for treatments and the pool is a nice pool, but there is no steam room or sauna , and the jacuzzi pool is basically a large bath with very low powered bubbles. Breakfast was ok, but who on earth in the kitchen decided that serving pre cooked poached eggs served on a buffet dish under a heat light was a good idea. Obviously they were like rubber bullets ....at this standard of hotel things like this should be cooked to order. The staff here are excellent , and frankly the only redeeming feature of this country house hotel , which I guess survives on spa break business. Not a patch on this company's sister hotel Tynley hall and miles off other country house hotels in the area

We had a really lovely stay. Staff were great, food was good. The hotel is beautiful and we have left feeling very relaxed. The only downside was the bed, not the comfiest and was two single beds pushed together.

Went to a good friends wedding here, it was a fantastic day. Wonderful venue for a party but equally for a relaxing weekend - the grounds are large and peaceful, and there are also plenty of places inside the hotel to find a quiet spot to chill out. Comfortable feel to the hotel, doesn't feel corporate at all, rather homely. Room was so so nice with a awesome view. Great service too. Highly recommended!

The hotel looks amazing, and as a location is excellent. It is also the only place in probably 10 years that I had an inedible meal. I ordered a steak, but received topside of beef, cooked like a steak. Worse still, no one asked about the meal, not even when collecting the plates with uneaten steak on it. When asked how was our stay, I said the hotel was lovely, but the food was not. They ignored this and just checked us out.

We went to Ashdown Park many years ago with a spa deal. Since then we’ve been back multiple times, as we loved it so much. In fact if we are looking for a weekend break we no longer look anywhere else. For us there is something really special about this place. The grounds are stunning, it’s tucked away so it’s peaceful and quiet. The main house goes back to the 1600’s so is steeped in history and feels like going back in time. The facilities are great and the staff really friendly. In fact for our recent visit we got upgraded to a suite because it was our anniversary. Which was an amazing touch.

Brilliant! We had a fabulous 2 night stay. The staff team is welcoming, helpful, responsive, warm and kind. The food in the main restaurant, and the choice of wine, is all excellent. The brasserie is a great place for children and more informal dining, with a great choice and friendly staff. The spa is great - though book well ahead because demand is high. The view from the terrace is beautiful and the terrace became our favourite place - paired with the delicious sparkling rose! We will be back - thank you. And don't miss the stained glass windows in the Chapel - we had a lucky tip from the fab concierge to see it - well worth it. Bravo! Thank you

This was our 3rd visit to this hotel and will be the last. Even after sending an email to arrange the dinner around 5 days earlier, we didn't hear any replies. When we were checking in we were told that it is fully booked. Like what? Are you selling your rooms with the expectation of us gnawing the furnitures in the room? How does this make any sense? We wanted to use the late check out option aaaaand the answer was again no. Check in hour is 4pm, check out is with "complimentary help" 12. So basicly if you want to use the facilities the same day, I would recommend you to come to this hotel early in the morning to make your reservations. If you think carefully, this is a nice strategy to make you waste more money. We came here with the expectation of having a fine dining experience like we used to and ended up with a burger and half cooked chicken. If your purpose is just to go in to your room and sleep, then this seems to be the perfect option. Oh, apparently they have vouchers etc for afternoon tea. It is not something you should pay something around £70 too. It is £35 at Ivy. Such a shame..

My husband and I stayed here to celebrate our 25th wedding anniversary in January 2023. We had a lovely stay and they made us feel very welcome and remembered it was our anniversary. We were even given an upgrade on our room. A special mention for Rosie at the Spa who gave me my massage which was wonderful. All in all a perfect stay. Thank you

A breathtaking period building set in the countryside of wonderful East Sussex. It doesn't get better than this if you are after a relaxing romantic weekend in England. In the immaculate grounds we spotted some beautiful wildlife. Breakfast was brilliant. A choice of 2 restaurants for the evening meal with the main restaurant in the original building being much better so book it in advance as it gets booked up at the weekends. Swimming pool is gorgeous and the gym is well equipped. This is not a family weekend but is ideal for couples.

A delightful building, the food was impeccable. The service was first class, but the kitchens were so far from the room we were in,and each plate was brought separately; no-one thought to use a trolley or similar. The choice food available was limited, due, apparently to our large numbers? Puzzling as they myst have a large number of covers on a regular basis. of Anyway, the overall experience was wonderful

Visited for a spa package. The lunch was fantastic. The spa is beautiful and clean and our treatments were amazing. But was disappointed there is no steam or sauna room. The plastic flip flops in your package are thrown away if you don't take them home which really annoyed me, that has to change.

Attended a friends wedding and the whole day and evening was awesome. The hotel are fabulous at running these events however we decided to book a room and on arrival we checked in and dropped our bags in the room and headed off to the wedding. After a fabulous night we retired to our room to find that the cold tap didn’t work and the bath tub had massive black stains and mould up the wall. In the morning on using the toilet discovered it didn’t flush so had to use the communal toilets. On going to breakfast was very disappointed, the only decent part of the English breakfast was the sausages. Poached egg was rock solid, bacon full of grissle, mushroom inedible -and the coffee was like lumpy syrup. No milk delivered with the coffee so we pinched the leftovers from the table next to us. On reporting all the faults the maintenance chap turned up within ten minutes but was unable to fix the problem immediately so we checked out early. The venue is superb for a wedding and you couldn’t fault the hotel but I think more effort needs to be invested in the accommodation which is definitely not value for money and is not as described. The bed was very comfy but the lighting was very gloomy and furniture very dated. I would go back for an event but would recommend staying elsewhere at a b&b as the rooms are in desperate need of updating.

Stayed here recently for a wedding. Beautiful grounds, amazing building, wonderful place for a wedding. Rooms are nice but very expensive, not sure I would call them value for money. Food I good and so is the spa. Overall a lovely place.

Beautiful place ,great service .Lovely evening meal and breakfast . Room was great with awesome views only issue was water ran so hot as soon as you turned it on that you would have burned yourself if not careful Would be five stars but the drinks prices were astronomical £16 for a cocktail £6.50 for a non alcoholic bottle of lager When you had already paid £330 for one night I felt this was a bit much .

Really lovely couples break, stayed with the afternoon tea/dinner/breakfast package. Beautiful hotel and golf course. Free parking Staff are absolutely the best... Kind, helpful and make you feel at ease. All from the room staff to waiters to reception very lovely. They listened to our requests for food requirements etc and so we were able to enjoy all our meals. The chef definitely needs complimenting. Excellent selection of food and really tasty. Haute cuisine. Room very nice with view. Big puffy pillows. Had a kettle, coffee machine, selection of teas and hot chocolate, TV and Molten Brown toiletries. Complimentary drinks and chocolate. Dropped a star as bed was not that comfortable..was a twin joined to a double, which is very common in many hotels but the mattress height between the two was noticeable and dipped and the shower water swung from warm to burning hot. Despite these minor flaws I'd recommend and would probably come again on a package deal

We had afternoon tea and thoroughly enjoyed it, attention to detail the cake stand on a separate table and not in your face. Tea was poured for us photo's taken and nothing was to much trouble. Food was brilliant and cakes not to big, excellent time recommended to visit and not that expensive.

Huge thank you to the staff, who were willing to help with anything, especially with dietary requirements. We had a complimentary room upgrade upon arrival with a fabulous view of the lake and grounds. It was recommended by a friend and we will definitely stay again! All staff polite, friendly.
