Amazingly quiet place to getaway from hustle and bustle of the city and still so close proximity to the beautiful Indian Ocean.i started reading a book in the garden with the smell of the leaves and birds whistling. So soothing experience. Clean and tasty food prepared by the owner is ,I would say best authentic food I experience along the southern coast. Definitely I will visit and enjoy the real village surroundings very soon at truly 'shady cottage '

I stayed at Shady Cottage for one month and can only recommend it ! Bendupala, his son Lahiru and all their family are the best hosts ever, always present if you need anything and treating you like you are part of their family, inviting you to their home for dinners if you are up for it :) The place itself is really nice, a beautiful garden that makes you feel like you are in the middle of the jungle, surrounded by nature, with a lot of birds and some other animals sneaking in which is cool. The location a bit more inlands, which means it's very calm around, but in 15 minutes walking and a few minutes by scooter you are at the Kabalanah beach so it's still very good. There are 3 private cabanas on site (a 4th one being built), each on its own little corner of the garden so privacy is not an issue. The cabana itself is well built, simple but still higher standard than a typical Sri Lankan place I'd say, it feels very cozy. The bed is huge and comfortable, and the outdoor bathroom with hot water is a really nice touch. The common area has a big table for you to eat and socialize with whoever is staying there too, it has a fully equipped kitchen for you to make your own meals which is great when you staying long-term. I'm a digital nomad and WiFi can be quite chaotic in most places, but here it's most of the time reliable and fast, enough to do video calls and work efficiently. All in all, I warmly recommend this place for solo traveler like me, but also for couples and even a bunch of friends if you want to book all cabanas at the same time. Amazing place and owners! It feels like you live in botanical garden. Bungalows are located in the shadows of the trees. There is big kitchen with everything you need for cooking and dining/working table under the roof. When there is a power cut, you can use generator. Internet is fiber.

This was an incredible experience made possible by the wonderful people and excellent atmosphere of the area with lovely exposure to food, delicate care taken with our room and exciting recommendations for potential activities. The owners took very good care of all of us. They were very helpful and very courteous. Leaving with full hearts and memories that will stay with us forever and would love to come back again.

They really paid attention to what I liked and made sure every detail was just right. The food was delicious, and they helped me plan activities that let me enjoy the beauty of the forest.
