Lovely house and garden with lots of information about George Bernard Shaw from knowledgeable volunteers. You need to book a time to visit but well worth doing so.

Lovely peaceful spot. The house Tour was full when I visited - need to book in advance for this. Also the writing hut does not currently revolve. It was pleasant to sit on the porch - G B Shaw's favourite spot (when not writing in his shed!).

For a house visit you need to book a tour at the ticket hut as you arrive. The garden is delightful.

Excellent tour guides. Fascinating. Friendly staff in the cabin too. Wonderful to enjoy the garden before the tour. And the shade on a hot day!

The volunteers were incredibly lovely and knowledgeable and made the visit - there was lots of seating across the gardens which was welcome and it was very peaceful. I think the plan is to do more work on the gardens which Shaw loved so much as they would benefit from some love and attention although I am realistic to understand this is a never ending task . A bit more colour on a lovely sunny day would have been welcome .We were glad we went and whiled away a couple of hours in a very pretty corner of the countryside. The cabin/bookshop was a lovely welcoming little gem.

Not the most attractive house, but steeped in GBS history. Really lovely and knowledgeable guides (1 hr plus tour) and beautiful setting and gardens. Well worth it.

Spur of the moment visit as we realised we were not far away from Shaw's corner so came off the motorway at Welwyn Garden City. We hoped to get into the house as had only previously visited when it was closed. We were very lucky to arrive just as a guided house tour began and we managed to tag along as two other people hadn't arrived (so would highly recommend booking in advance as groups are very small and I'm not sure how many tours are done in a day). What a great experience!! Our guide a lovely lady but i'm so sorry, I forgot to make a note of her name) and her colleague Rob are so knowledgeable and enthusiasti. We learnt so much about GBS, his wife and their lives and people they knew; there are interesting artefacts, pictures & sculptures in the house. The gardens are beautiful - Shaw's writing hut is a "must" to visit. There is a lovely little bookshop by the entrance (second hand books). You can buy coffee/tea & biscuit and sit in the lovely shaded garden area set with tables (no other food on sale but you could take your own sandwiches etc). Will definitely go back and book the house tour so we're sure to get in for another go.

A lovely stop on a wonderful circular walk. Very friendly volunteer staff. The house tours were fully booked but one guide took the time to give us a very informative impromptu introductory talk, which was such a lovely bonus to our visit.

I visited with my sister and mum and we just came to visit the garden, as the tours were fully booked. The garden absolutely did not disappoint - there were lots of different areas - wildflower, meadow, cultivated, orchard- that meant exploring the garden was great fun in itself. There were plenty of benches to stop and admire the view from as well. We all really enjoyed ourselves and are looking to coming back in the future to tour the house :)

Booked a timed house tour which was very interesting and informative. Nice arts and crafts details inside the house. I understand a tour is being developed around the artwork and sculptures which will be very interesting. The gardens are serene, a very tranquil place.

Small NT site to stroll around with a dog. Down the road Brocket Arms for lunch. Ruined romantic church worth a look.

Book in advance of your visit. Thanks to very helpful staff I was able to see inside the house of Bernard Shaw which would have been such a shame to miss. Very comprehensive guide informs you of his life filled with anecdotes of him and his wife. The grounds are large and worth walking around to see the small writing hut that could rotate to face the sun

It was a very busy day with lots of visitors as it was the Bank Holiday. Some young children were unfortunately not enjoying themselves. It was difficult to glean much from the NT volunteers because there were so many people looking round. It was interesting and I will book for the guided tour on a normal opening day as I feel there is much to learn about Bernard Shaw. The gardens were very peaceful with plentiful benches to sit and enjoy the views from.
