The care here is ok. I've only seen one of their practitioners; he seems knowledgeable and experienced, but even at the height of the pandemic, appeared averse to wearing a mask, as he was constantly pulling it down. Given the waiting area traffic and number of patients waiting at any one time, this is concerning, as he is likely exposed to 20 - 30 patients a day. You are often waiting well past your appointment and returned to the fairly small waiting area 2-3 times. He never seems to remember why you're under his care and subsequent visits feel like the first visit. The office staff and technicians are the worst part of the practice. The tech who assisted during my first visit was horrible. She was new and didn't know how to use the equipment well and took her frustration out on me. Totally unacceptable and unprofessional. Upon a recent visit, it appears that masks are no longer required for staff, as I only observed one staff member wearing one. For health care practitioners, I find this irresponsible. I will soon be changing practitioners.

Going to the eye doctor is not something I enjoy…Getting dilated etc…wondering why my vision at 58 is getting worse… However my experience at New Tampa with Dr Fridman was excellent. From the moment I walked in the staff made me feel welcome and at ease. My wait time was fast and on time. The testing painless. Sheree was very helpful, answered all my questions and calmed my fears. In the end Dr. Fridman diagnosed me with cataracts. She explained the process and the surgery. I so thankful she is my doctor. Looking forward to better sight in my future!

Entire staff puts the patient first. They show compassion and understanding. The doctors are knowledgeable and caring. They answer all your questions, even if you call them between visits.

Dr. Friedman and office staff whom I came in contact with during my visit were very professional, smiled and friendly. However, Sheree receives the top rewards of appreciation and applause, she was very skilled, knowledgeable and proactive while addressing the concerns I had with my distance vision sun glasses. Dr. Friedman was very accommodating and proactive as well with my need to have unwanted eye lashes removed (that were curling inward touching my eyes). What a refreshing relief it was to have those hairs removed. Awesome Job to this office, great teamwork to you all.

Dr. Scott Friedman is awesome. When I started seeing him I was having some vision problems with my left eye, he did the surgery that needed to be done and really improved my vision. He and the staff in his office are great.

I had a great eye appointment with Dr. Gretta Fridman on 9/26/2022. All office staff and technicians were nice, friendly, patient and explained everything. This is a great place for all of your eye care needs. Eye care at New Tampa Eye Institute is always excellent.

It is very unusual that a Doctor spends quite some time with you and does not over prescribe your condition. Dr. Greta Fridman did just that explained in layman’s terms her reasons why she felt that where I was with my eye issue was the best outcome for me and any further treatment was not required. Very grateful of her honest opinion in addition to asking questions and not rushing an appointment. Monica her Technician is extremely professional and made one comfortable. Highly recommend New Tampa Eye Institute.

The reviews about Dr. Gretta Fridman are misleading. Her demeanor was rude from the moment she walked into the room and she didn’t greet me. She didn’t go over any of the eye exams and photos gathered by the eye tech. All she did was take a quick look at my eyes and tell me I need to see a retina specialist asap. It's like I was driving the entire appointment. I came prepared with questions and she barely answered my questions. She wasn't transparent and is a bare minimum doctor. I left the appointment with more questions than I came with and now I feel like I need to get a second opinion somewhere else. Next, the wait time was ridiculously long and the waiting room is narrow and packed. I'm being billed $184.27 for photos, eye exams, etc that Dr. Fridman didn't even go over. A waste of time and money.

Dr Gretta Fridman is very thorough & knowledgeable. She has gone out of her way to help me to understand my glaucoma The office staff has been wonderful if you need anything they respond very quickly. I just had laser surgery. Dr Fridman worked directly with my hematologist to review my case to make sure it went smoothly. Thank you to Dr Fridman & the whole office staff!

Dr. Richards performed an iridotomy in my right eye and Dr G. Friedman performed iridotomy in my other eye. Both doctors were extremely competent. They patiently answered all my questions and were very forthcoming. Their staff is well trained and compassionate. Thank you doctors and staff for your competence and professionalism.

I just had cataract surgery preformed by Dr. Fridman. She is an excellent, caring doctor. She spends as much time as necessary to answer any questions. Her office staff is always friendly and courteous and responds quickly to phone messages. I highly recommend New Tampa Eye Institute.

Preparing for cataract surgery, staff was very helpful in testing and explaining options, insurance coverage, etc. Dr. Fridman thoroughly reviewed test data and clearly walked me through the cataract surgery procedure and what to expect. Now, looking forward to upcoming surgery to have my vision improved. The staff was very supportive and arranged for all steps in the cataract surgery process. I would recommend.

The doctors and assistants are very knowledgeable and professional. Would definitely recommend. One down side is a lot of time in the waiting room. It would be better if they could quicken that up.

I had some horrible retinal eye issues that morphed into high eye pressure & glaucoma issues, that led to my referral by another eye doctor to the New Tampa Eye Institute. Initially, my anxiety was very elevated as I was hit with these serious eye issues all within 1 year. Dr. Fridman calmly & extensively explained to me what my eye issues were, the course of treatment, & that the prognosis for positive results was high. My eye issues that were of immediate concern improved dramatically, & I have regular quarterly visits with Dr. Fridman to monitor my eyes for any changes that may be needed to my eyecare treatment. She is so professional, caring, & awesome at her job. She truly cares & it shows. I trust her implicitly with my eye treatment. In addition, her office staff is super kind & effective at their jobs. The New Tampa Eye Institute is Number 1 in my book.

I highly recommend New Tampa Eye Institute. Last year, during a routine visit, Dr. Fridman noticed something out of the norm in my imaging and took the time to look into it. She was able to identify the signs and diagnose an eye condition that I was completely unaware of. She immediately got me scheduled for laser surgery, which was a surprisingly simple and quick process. Ever since, she has been diligent about routine visits and takes time for a thorough exam to evaluate whether further treatment is necessary. Now, I always encourage friends and family to get their eyes checked and take their eye health seriously - and I’m tremendously grateful for Dr. Fridman and the staff at NTEI for taking the time to notice and treat the issue. 🙏🏼☺️

I would not have any vision if it had not been for Dr Friedman quick diagnosis and dedicated. Thanks to her office staff they reacted quickly with an appointment. And 3 years later they are all still awesome! I wouldn’t go anywhere else or trust any other physician with my eye care!

As usual staff are extremely welcoming. I truly feel like they care. After thorough testing I felt like they treated me as if i was one of their family members. I'm alway referring this office to anyone looking for a opthamologist that cares about patients concerns. Thank you for taking care of me.

Dr Smurr and his staff provide excellent and friendly service. They all know their respective responsibilities and their overall "dance" is well choreographed. I do think they really need help in the area of the phones as they rang nonstop while we were there. Calls were answered as quickly as possible, however, and everyone remained friendly and responsive. A great bunch of people that work well together with patients' interests first and foremost.

I was very impressed by Andrea who patiently spoke to my husband & ran tests on my husband before he saw his doctor. She was very pleasant, took her time, made sure she understood any new issues concerning my husband’s changes in his vision. You could really tell that she cared & that speaks volumes in this day & age. Dr Small answered all of my husbands questions & explained why changes were happening. Overall great experience!!!

Every person I dealt with was very nice. There were a lot of steps before I saw the doctor. Think think when you make an appointment the person should let you know that you will be there for at least two hours. But I feel that they know their stuff.

Dr. Smur and Stephanie, as always, did a fantastic job and answered any questions I had. I don’t live in town anymore so I drive 7 hours to come see a trusted and reliable doctor and staff. Well worth the drive! Thank you both!

Dr Fridman was superb ! I love the fact that everything was explained to me and the office appears to use the latest technology. Sabrina and Garon ? ( sorry his name is different can’t remember exactly) were very polite and informative, the office was clean and the doctor were her mask!

I have been going to the New Tampa Eye Institute for a few years now for glaucoma. I have been pleased with the outcome and the attention that I have been getting. They explain to me exactly what’s going on with my eyes and tell me why I am taking certain eyedrops. I will definitely keep going there and if you are having problems with your eyes, I recommend going to the New Tampa Eye Institute.

Very busy, but efficient office. Wonderful office and nursing staff. Doctor Fridman is very thorough, and takes the time to explain everything in detail. I especially like the fact that the practice does not have an optical dispensary next door to whom they direct the patients for glasses.

These people are amazing, professional, and provide explanations. The eye exam was smooth. I enjoyed a spirit of fun as Paul assisted in choosing new frames for my new lenses. Okay, Paul chose - he has much better taste and ideas on what would look good on me. Then the office staff assisted in voting from his selections. Val is also helpful and good at choosing frames for faces! Dr. Smurr is kind, down to earth, knowledgeable, and friendly! His wife, Stephanie, works at one of the front desks and aside from being professional and efficient, she is warm and embracing. Together the people working there have created the perfect blend of professionalism and a down home feel. If you're looking for an eye doctor, I think you'll be pleased with this place.

I scheduled an appt that I had to wait 3 months for and 2 months into the wait, the office called and moved it 3 weeks further out saying the doctor would be out. Finally got there and the tech was awesome but Greta Fridman was unfriendly, dismissive, gave very little information and acted perturbed by my questions. I was warned by another person about her before going but took the chance. I will not be returning.

Dr. Smurr and staff were very helpful with my experience at New Tampa eye institute. My initial visit I was measured for contact lenses and wasn’t comfortable with a prescription. After I came back from vacation and came to see Dr. Smurr again he was able not only to adjust my new RX but also listen about eye discomfort I’ve experienced. I left very satisfied. Thank you Dr. Smurr

😠 This is not a reflection of the doctors or therapists. Only my dealings with the office staff. They tried to gaslight me.
