Great place to go to learn about the whaling history of the entire nation, especially Long Island. Bring the kids, they'll learn a lot and have fun while doing so. Check the calendar of events on the website before you go as they have special projects, events, and treasure hunts that rotate every day.

BLAST! MUST VISIT FOR FAMILY & ESPECIALLY KIDS. Strange, out Ordianary place visit. MUST SEE. We visited on hunt of Odd activity, but left informed (learned), adventure & loads fun Kids & adults alike. Walked in and handed a Harry Potter Map find objects in. Harry Potter Museum left & Whale Museum Right. Smaller museum, well packed interesting objects, and well laid out. Great whaling history! Be sure walk around out front, back & sides of building for more discoveries. They'll WHALECOME! You, family and kids to a delightful time. Thanks for 2 DYNO kids help finding objects & memorable experience.

Great place to take children. Parking can be difficult but if you don’t mind waking a little there is a small parking lot nearby on Bedlam Street. Any one interested in the sea will love this place. Extremely informative about the lives of whalers and interesting story’s with beautiful displays that are easy to read and understand, there are also fun in learning displays for young teens plus in depth experience programs for younger children. For the half hour I was here I realized that this is not only a fascinating look at Americas Whaling history but a very mindful reality about whales today I highly recommend.

We stopped in while visiting family in the area. What a great little museum on whaling on Long Island. The scrimshaw pieces they have are fantastic, they even have an example of scrimshaw on baleen. The kids had a great time and they usually have fun activities for kids going on too. The staff are great. It's worth the stop for an hour or so.

We learned a lot about the history and technology of whaling in LI and New England. Tiny museum, pleasant setting and very educational, with many hands-on activities for kids.

This is a really great little museum that was really more interesting than I expected it to be. It's well balanced with exhibits interesting for both adults and children as well. Well worth checking out if you're nearby. Easy to spend an hour or two there.

Great museum had an amazing afternoon there today. The museum was both informative and interactive. There were beautiful artifacts, paintings, and displays throughout the building. I am looking forward to coming back in the future and seeing what future events take place.

Have been coming here since I was kid. Nice exhibits. Great for kids. Need to add Ambergris exhibit. Kinda dated. Also new ship speed reductions to help reduce whale strikes by ships on US East Coast

Very interesting museum!! Our 8 year old was busy with the scavenger hunt, while we were enjoying a wonderful exhibition. Lady who is selling tickets is very nice and resourceful. I am so curious about whaling now that I feel I have to read Moby Dick now! 🙂

This is a cute little museum. My 2 kids had fun, and there are a lot of hands on items for kids and even adults to enjoy. Can be done in about an hour or so. It's just down the road a bit from the main downtown area of Cold Spring Harbor, and a 10 minute drive from Oyster Bay as well. So if you're looking for kid friendly activities in the area, this is a great option.
