This is a very special home to me as he was my Great Grandfather. I heard great stories about the China and Pearl Handled Knives and Beautiful Silver Tea Sets. My GGF was known to everyone as Uncle Jimmy. He never turned a lonely lost traveler away. He had a little room set off the side of house with a bed and a meal. He believes in God and preached if they needed a Preacher. He died in Church.

It was a fascinating tour of a historical home. The people who lived there and the fact that the home still exists are what's important here & of interest. The tour is very interesting and the guide I had was very knowledgeable. I'd recommend checking it out if you have time. Just try not to draw comparisons to Salisbury House or Terrace Hill.

How can I put it into words. My mouth dropped when I walked into the home. Full of time period furniture and portraits. This home is full of history and it was a privilege for me to be able to have photographed one of my brides wedding there. Pictures to come!

Very unique house for the time period! The house has a good sized basement that initially housed the kitchen! Lots of great history and stories linked to this home!

Our guide was fun, passionate and very informative about the history of the house and family. Also, hoping the plans to improve the property come to fruition.

I was at a wedding on the lawn. They allowed the guests to look around inside the house afterward. I don't know how much it normally cost. It was fascinating even though we did not get an actual tour.

I learned more here about Iowa history in one day than many summers visiting Living History Farms. Now while I love Living History Farms and it’s very experiential, the Jordan House history is just so rich and the tour guide was VERY knowledgeable!y 9 year old son and his elementary aged friends were very engaged in this tour and we all learned a lot! I’ve lived in Iowa my whole life and never knew many of the things we learned at Jordan House!

Gail was great! We toured the house with our daughters, and she related to all of us very well! The History of the Jordan Family in Des Moines is so extensive, it's a wonder the City isn't named after them! (Jordan Creek is!)

The house is unassuming from the outside but has a wealth of history inside. I took my younger son on a tour with me. He really likes history so he enjoyed it. I don't think it would be of interest to children that don't like history. There are two factors in play with this house. First, it was one of the first houses in the area. Second, it was discovered that the house was on the underground railroad. I would highly recommend this tour for people interested in one or both of those topics. The tour guide was very knowledgeable.

Great experience. The house is beautifully restored with many original pieces. The docent was very knowledgeable and personable. The information and artifacts throughout the house are interesting.
