This is John Ruskins home and is well worth a visit. The staff are very friendly and helpful and also very knowledgeable. The cafe has a terrace with stunning views over the lake.

We went across on the Coniston Launch and had £1 knocked off the admission price! A lovely, interesting place to visit with the most amazing views of the lake.

Well worth a visit. The house of John Ruskin, a giant of the Victorian artistic and cultural scene. In good condition and interesting to mooch around. The grounds overlooking Coniston Water are beautiful and there is also a nice tearoom.

Excellent place with great views to lake Coniston. The lady at Ruskin pond was fantastic. She took her time and explained everything about the living organisms inside the pond, to our son. The cafe had an excellent variety of very tasty, cooked food. Only unpleasant incident was while inside the cafe/ restaurant a scaffle broke out between two dogs. They were pulled apart by their owners but they kept barking very loudly for at least 20mins all while we and many others (all dog lovers no doubt) were trying to enjoy the "peace and quiet", lovely food and excellent views of the lake. Nobody from the cafe seemed to really be willing to do anything about it!

Fascinating place with bags of information about John Ruskin. It is a massive estate with beautiful grounds that are really well kept. We arrived by the steam gondola but you can also arrive by boat or by road. There is a cafe that serves 10.30-4 but when we were there (end October) it only served cakes and toasties. Really friendly staff. Great day out.

Had a lovely time wandering around the gardens, house and galleries. Great value with the ticket allowing you to return another time. Had a very nice cake and cup of tea too - with added glitter from an event the night before!! Well worth a visit. We did drive though the steamer from Coniston would drop you off on the jetty with a small walk to the entrance which we will definitely do next time.

Excellent house and gardens. Gardens are extensive and varied. House is interesting, especially the family history and learning about the person. Views and surrounding scenery are worth taking time to view and explore

Inside the house wasn't that exciting, though the views of Coniston from the windows were spectacular. Colourful garden. Nice piano if you like playing. Bit expensive to get in at £14 each, which includes the house and gardens. However, keep your receipt as it allows you in free for future visits for 12 months. Cafe was nice but ran out of cakes on our visit, which was near closing time.

Brantwood is an great place to learn about the life and works about John Ruskin, with interesting exhibits, minerals and art work displayed, as well with the trails around the gardens to walk around and admire the surrounding nature and views of the lake.

Lovely place not just for Ruskin's house but also the location. Stunning views of Coniston Water and an beautiful garden and amazing woodland Estate. The house is perfectly preserved as Ruskin would have known it. The woodland gives you the possibility to walk in deep nature to appreciate not only the view but also the sound of nature. Several well defined paths guide you around, up to the summit of the hill above the house. On the water one has the possibility to take a steamer ship tour around the lake. If you are lucky, you may also enjoy drinks and food on the restaurant terrace. Unfortunately we could not as the place was reserved for a private function, which was not advertised. All in all truly recommended to visit. On the occasion, you may also visit Ruskin's grave, in the nearby village of Coniston.

The house offered a good rainy day activity, offering an hour of indoor respite from the weather. The gardens were stunning (if a little soggy), with great views over the lake. Lovely food in the restaurant although would have been nice to have had the option for a sandwich / light lunch as well as the main meals.

It was an interesting view in to John Ruskin and the views are amazing. However, the garden walks are not for anyone who has issues with mobility or bad knee joints. Cafe was pleasant, with decent coffee and cake and wonderful views to enjoy whilst you relaxed. Main food on offer was limited and if you're fussy like me you'll stick to the cake.
