This review is long overdue, so forgive my lengthyness! My first experience with this establishment🇹🇹 and Miss Carol👑 was Spiritual and Divinely Ordained💫. (Nothing "spooky" just phenomenal! It was last summer, an evening with a couple hours to kill, a starving belly, and 1 thought: (I want some "home-cooked" food). Happy Sandwich was an unexpected treat, like an oasis in the dessert. This is why I say this was long overdue... First of all, don't let the name mislead you. Although this is most definitely a HAPPY place, its certainly not only about sandwiches any more. It may be one reason we may all have been missing out on the BEST-EST Caribbean, down-home, "back to deh islands mon" experiences here in Allentown & the Lehigh Valley. That and the fact that we pro'lly just be flying past going to where ever, thru the lower side of 7th Street (past the Statue & Walnut St) in Allentown, PA. She's located on the left hand side by the vaccuum store. What caught my attention were the signs: Open, Roti & Hallal Goat! Anywho, Miss Carol is the essence of a true Caribbean Queen, and her food (Trinida- dian) is all that & more! She had my head spinning with the selections & sides. We settled on a delicious🤤 combo with some Roti & Curry Goat, Rice n Peas, Macaroni Pie, Plantains & Falafel Balls. (I was hungry & wanted to try a lil of er'ything!😋) So although its order at the counter, there's booth seating available. I was treated to her Maubi (a taste) & her "Special Drink", and felt properly spoiled as though Granny, Aunty & all the Ancestors were embracing me and feeding my soul.🙇🏾‍♀️ Fast Forward to last week when I introduced my Panamanian🇵🇦 friend to the experience that is Miss Carol.🙆🏾‍♀️ Confirmation is the best form of flattery! David started conjuring memories of his summers in Panama, full of escapades and his food adventures as we enjoyed the experience! We leisurely shared and swapped stories of home (🇻🇮 foh me) over our island feast. His was the Chicken Roti, mine the Stewed Oxtail, Rice & Peas with Plantains (maduros), then the soft drinks to top off the flavors. Prepare to be lulled by the music (we be Jammin' meh son), the atmosphere, the decor and the enchanting Miss Carol and her gifted hands and tastes of home! Don't believe me? I understand because "yo had to be dere"! But I do have some pics n vids as evidence, because I also believe "the proof is in the pudding". Regardless, you go taste and see for yourself, but go early before the food runs out.

Absolutely the "BEST" food I've had on this side of town. The owner was so personable. I felt like I was at home. Was so comfortable and didn't want to leave. She is the top notch. I ate shark here as well. So please if you do decide to come to this location please try the shark cause it's the best thing of the sea from her hands.everything was spectacular "REALLY" She has mad skills and she is one singing like. I was dancing like happy feet in her establishment.

Ms. Carol is a sweetheart that throws DOWN in the kitchen. She also makes the best pineapple juice I’ve ever had. This food is life changing levels of delicious and she’s such a vibe. Best customer service in all of Allentown for sure. A must stop!

Jerked chicken was good....but the goat curry was amazing!! Would definitely recommend and let's be honest, when you go to grab some takeout and the person/chief has a wonderfully happy and upbeat attitude it makes the whole meal taste better! Only my first time eating with happy sandwiche and will definitely try again.. btw. The doubles she has are ....Devine! Order one and you won't be disappointed...I got a sample one and damn If I didn't want another.

My boyfriend and I traveled out of town for an auction. We decided to grab some food and this place did not disappoint. We both loved our dishes. I'd travel out of town just for this again. She made us feel super welcomed even though they closed in 30 minutes. The sweetest lady. The only bad thing is the food was sooo good I couldn't stop eating even after I was full 😂❤️

We could smell the food and hear the music from the street. The second we walked in the door Carol’s smile and attitude made us feel right at home. There is a nice variety of delicious bottled beverages to choose from as well as her happy juices. The jerk chicken was so moist and flavorful with the most delicious perfectly spiced sauce. I am still thinking about the stew chicken with lentils and the pineapple happy juice. I cannot wait to go back to try the oxtail and pholourie and just feel all the good vibes that radiate from that kitchen.

One of the things I love is the atmosphere…true trini vybz. Aunty Carol was so generous and hospitable, & the the food was WICKED. Mi had ah goat roti…lawd ah eat mi finger then too. Good job aunty Carol

This is a small store , but you won’t be disappointed. I had order curry chicken with rice and collard greens, and when I said it was delicious…. It was delicious 🤤, I’m a little upset that I ate all my food before I took a picture lol, but my word is true, come on over to Happy Sandwich Caribbean on south seventh street. you will be happy, and leave with a smile, just cause the food is great and Ms. Carol is a friendly person😊😊.

I’m not sure if we were in a restaurant or somehow teleported to her home. Seriously we could not have been better taken care of. The food was amazing! The service was not just friendly but warm and caring. The vibe here was just happy and joy filled. Prices were excellent, serving size large. Great drink selection. Can’t wait to go back!

Bangin, must try! I enjoyed every bite of the jerk chicken meal and thankful that I ordered a large. Cooked so well the meat falls right off the bone. Already looking forward to ordering it again!!

I never post reviews but this place definitely deserves it. I got the oxtail platter with rice and peas and it was amazing. Everything was flavorful and the portion size was great. Ms. Carol was so welcoming and polite. You can tell she’s making her food with love. I wanted pineapple juice but it wasn’t ready yet so she offered me the grapefruit juice (I don’t like grapefruit juice) but I tried it and it was bomb I’m glad she offered it. 10/10 would recommend this place.

Today my first time in Happy Sandwich and trying a different type of foods and I must say very good food and Carol very nice friendly lady with a big smile that makes you feel at home she even gave samples which is nice so you know what you getting. I had the stew chicken with coconut rice and kale so so good also tried goat for the first time. The pineapple happy juice yummy 😋. I must say overall I’m satisfied and happy and I will go back for more. O and I learned how to use chopsticks. This place is a must go 💯

Ms. Carol knows great food, hospitality, and so much more. On a 10 day road trip stopping in Allentown. Many places were closed or oddly quiet for a Saturday evening so we ended up here, and thank goodness as this will be a highlight of our trip and we will return. I had “doubles” because the rokis were sold out for the day. We were given samples before making our order to make sure we liked it. We didn’t like it …. We loved it! The grapefruit happy juice hit the spot and is unlike anything else. Ms. Carol’s garlic sauce could be bottled and sold. Because we were there at the end of the day, and Ms. Carol won’t let things go to waste, we also sampled cabbage and chicken. And if you love okra, as I do, please taste the okra here. Funny how a random stop can become one of the highlights of your vacation.

We came to this place because a restaurant certificate discount, also wanted to try some local Caribbean’s food. The place is small but homey. Four of us are the first time here, two are trying this type of food the first time. Ms. Carol is nice to let us know what’s available to order. She also made some suggestions. The food came out good but slow (we will order in advance next time). The amount of food is incredible! I only took one roti picture with fork on the side to show the size. I’ll suggest less salt for the roti. But maybe I’m elderly person not used to the strong spices. The goat dishes were great, even the person usually don’t eat lamb said it’s good. At last Ms. Carol share her homeland drink with us for the Christmas celebration adding cheer. We packed all the leftovers and felt satisfied.

I rarely give reviews but after coming to happy sandwich, I felt as if I had to! Mrs.Carol was extremely kind and loving from the second I opened the door and invited me with open arms. She prepared a sample dish with many of the specials on the menu, which I finished with an empty plate and full stomach. The Jerk Chicken was cooked perfectly and I recommend it strongly. The multiple different taste of Caribbean Cuisine has made me a genuine fan. I look forward to coming again and again!

If I had to label this experience, it would be "I Almost Hurt Myself". Now if you know what that means, this is your kinda place. The food was on point, even though I walked 5 minutes before closing on Friday night, Miss Clara could not have been nicer. This place was a winner for me, even before I ate 1 fork full, just because our conversation, and I had met till I walked in the door. I ate Macaroni pie (Mac'n cheese) Goat, Cabbage, Plantains, & Rice could not finish it all, but I sure will tomorrow, and anytime I am in downtown Allentown, this will be my spot.

I was in town on a shoot for work and had a major hankering for some international/Caribbean food. When I got there, there was no wait and was instantly greeted by Carol. Carol was one of the friendliest and kindest people I have met. She was warm and welcoming and immediately initiated some conversation and made me feel comfortable and at home. Even though they did not currently have what I wanted to order, she made a suggestion on something to substitute it with and I was not disappointed. The portion was large and filling and the quality of the food was authentic. Between that and the quaint feel of the shop, it made me feel like I was ordering it in the Caribbean. She even allowed me to try a few of the homemade drinks before making my decision on a delicious and refreshing treat. I will definitely be going back and recommending it to others!

I am mad it took me so long to discover this place. I ordered curry chicken with rice and cabbage. The flavors were on point, meat was falling off the bone. The cabbage was delicious! And all for less than $6.00! Ms. Carol is the sweetest woman who's spirit oozes light and love. She offered me plenty of other items to try while I was there (I had to decline the shrimp due to allergies), but her pineapple juice was soo good. I wish I ordered more so I could leave a more detailed review of the food. I also wished the food took longer to serve so I can hang out with Ms. Carol a little longer. A+

First visit. Owner and cook, Carol, was very friendly and hospitable. She gave me a sample of her jerk chicken, curried cabbage and rice. I ordered a large jerk chicken platter which was excellent. Chicken was tasty and fall off the bone tender, rice was perfectly cooked and seasoned (I had oxtail gravy on the rice), curried cabbage was perfect (was so good I wish the platter came with more), and plantains were fantastic. And DEFINITELY get some garlic sauce on your meat and plantains- you won't regret it. Carol gives some candy in the bag. She even gave my daughter 2 lollipops and a rose. Very sweet. I will definitely be back to try some other platters. I highly recommend this establishment.

I visited this place and was not pleased with the food. I was expecting the size of the meat portion of food to be more then what I received for the price I paid. The oxtail dinner is $22 and you litterally get served 3 pieces of oxtail with sides. I feel $22 for a large and you only get 1 big piece of fatty oxtail and 2 small pieces is not worth the money. The taste was okay not a taste I would travel back for. The curry goat was costly and and was served one size and once again the meat portion is small and not worth what you pay for. The cabbage was hard and not soft. The atmosphere was pleasing and comfortable and the owner is very nice great service but the food and portion size is not worth what I would pay for again. And lastly make sure you do not go when it's almost close to closing because you will pay full price for scraps of what's left over such as the hard rice and and over cooked white rice.

Best lunch I have had in a while. Miss Carol was wonderful and welcoming, food was great of course (had the jerk chicken) and the music and plants in this little gem downtown completed the happy experience. Highly recommend that you give it a try
