The hours of operation are very limited, but was able to get a tour. The people there are volunteers and they do their best to deliver a great experience. They have added a restaurant on the main floor to gain extra revenue. We visited many years ago and it seems like they changed the story of what happened, but I can not confirm if they did. It is a great piece of history to check out and it didn’t cost anything other than time. We made a purchase in the gift shop to at least help with their time and experiences.

If you live by the Skene Manor, please consider volunteering there. This manor is managed by volunteers who did an amazing job at serving us and teaching us the history of the place. They are always looking for people who are willing to come join their team and keep the Manor open to the public. Nice place to come to have soup, sandwich, and tea/coffee.

What an excellent place to visit! My wife, kids and father visited August 2022. The building is in the process of being restored, but all areas were open for viewing except the basement and restaurant kitchen. You can eat at the cafe inside but we opted to take the FREE (donations accepted, and you should) hourly tour. Our docent was pleasant and knowledgeable about the history and restoration. This place is totally unique and worth the visit if you are near Whitehall! Just call ahead to confirm hours.

Run, don't walk to this incredible historic castle. What a wonderful experience we had here. The restaurant was lovely, the tour was amazing and the passion for this great house and its history was unparalleled. Make this your destination and don't forget to take in the view from every window!

This is one place to check out! The Skene Manor is a home to historical birthplaces and amazing architectural designs! I posted minimal pictures as you should experience it personally. Nested in a quaint town that is so rich in history. The mansion is a view away from the NYS Canal and other tourist spots! Aside from the free tour of the mansion and checking out the giftshop, they also offer dining services! I love love the experience I had in the dining area! From getting an amazing service given by the ladies who volunteers in this amazing place, to the savory soup, delectable sandwiches, and delicious desserts! All made from the mansion's kitchen! Put this on your bucket list! A few minutes away from Lake George! #smalltownvibe #BirthplaceoftheUSNavy #SkeneManor #WhitehallNY #WeAreWhitehall #HistoricalPlace #History #HistoryBuff #AfternoonTea #PrincessLife #LetsHaveTea #LakeGeorge

This is such a great place - got to tour all floors (but the basement - there's a story to the basement) 🙂 All the volunteers were friendly and informative and we had lunch - simple menu (the cooks and wait staff also volunteers) We plan to go back again when they reopen in the spring!
