This place is good for what it is. You feel like you've left the city through a tree line is all that separates you from the highway. It's located in a great area that is easily accessible. Admission is free and open. Kids will enjoy walking here and parents will enjoy the time out with the family to somewhere quiet and relaxing. Sometimes animals can be spotted but it depends on the season and time of day.

The most majestic spot in Wichita. If you come early enough, you'll be able to walk with the deer. It is definitely my place of zen. So peaceful here. Just remember, no dogs, or bikes allowed. Us people who visit here frequently would just like everyone to follow the rules.

A quiet oasis in Wichita. It’s well kept and litter free. The paths are moderately well maintained given that it is a nature preserve and that is the primary goal. You want decent shoes, and at some points you should take care, but there are plenty of paths that would even be wheel chair friendly.

Our go to place for nature walks! There are multiple trail options and they are stroller/wagon friendly (although there are a few places you may have to lift the wheels up a bit to get up onto a bridge). The indoor area is free and has tons of info about Kansas plants and wildlife. We always see something neat every time we visit! There is a map at the entrance of the paths and also one you can download from their website. Super easy to follow and they all circle back to the parking lot one way or another. There is a large outdoor picnic area right next to the parking lot as well.

A nature getaway inside a city!! If you need to take your mind off things for awhile, this is the best place to be! Never gets old or boring. So many little "off trails" and things to explore while walking around. Plus, they host really cool activities and events. I've enjoyed the storybook walks they've been doing lately.

Walked through the Great Plains Nature Center building. Have to wear masks inside. But that is ok. People are friendly. Outside went down the chisholm trail. Saw the creek. Wonderful walk.

I've always loved going the nature's center growing up, and me and my fiance still love going to this day. It's completely free and amazing. It is guaranteed you will see wildlife. This last time we saw a huge alligator snapping turtle, baby and mama Deere, and a ton of turtles, ducks and fish as usual. Not to mention the animals they rehabilitate inside. You will not find a more amazing wildlife experience for free around here.

This is a gorgeous place to walk or ride bikes . We went shortly before dusk and watched the sun set over the wetlands and through a field of yellow sunflowers . The deer , ducks and other water creatures , dragonflies and a wide variety of trees and fauna were a joy to see. I was in Wichita for one evening but if I had been there longer I would have definitely gone every afternoon . That’s how much I loved this place .

Beautiful nature center, amazing concrete and or paved trails. Seen plenty of turtles and waterfowl. Center itself was full of animals and various exhibits. Will definitely visit again when I'm in the area.

Wonderful place for a stroll in nature. Great place for family gathering and walking around with the kids. The patjs are well maintained and well prepared. There is wildlife everywhere you go. The grassland in tree tunnels are amazing. There's also lakes and Little Rivers in the park as well. Definitely a good place to go to retreat and recharge from the busy life.

I took my grandson here for a home school field trip. I was pleasantly surprised at how good a nature center surrounded by an urban environment could be. The nature center has a small but comprehensive natural history museum with displays of most of the major fauna in Kansas. There were even a few live exhibits of snakes and reptiles. The nature trails through the attached Chisholm Creek Park were paved and well maintained ranging in length from 1/2 mile to almost 2 miles. A large variety of habitats from wetlands to prairies are contained within this small area. It was very interesting and a well spent hour and half for myself and my 6 year old.

This is an excellent nature center! They had a museum type area with large animal displays. They also have a cute kestrel and screech Owl. Their observatory room is a great spot ro relax in and watch the nature outside.

Lush place very close to downtown. Has few different trail routes. Don’t miss the tunnel of trees. Has a muddy creek in the middle. Great place to destress and go for a walk or jog. Markers are provided to help us stay on trail.

Beautiful setting with lots of walking/biking trails. I rode my bike, so I can only comment on the outside. Plenty of parking, outside bathrooms, kids play areas, several spots for picnic. I'll be going back.

The center facility is very cool to see the murals and interactive area, and a few live animals plus a huge fish tank with KS fish in it. An indoor seating area for kids to read books or enjoy the view of the pond and wildlife. And the trails outside provide different options from easy to longer loop. Several docks to birdwatch from. Or at island pond fishing is allowed with ks fishing license . Deer, birds ,and pretty trees and native plants. A few benches to rest along the way. Great place for nature and fresh air

Such a great place to take the kids. They have lots of different paths to walk along and they're indoor activities are fun for any age. The gift shop is really adorable even though the prices are a little high in the gift shop, but with everything being free it's not that bad.

We visited on Kansas Day 2023. There were many activities for the family. Ms Kansas 2023 was also there wearing a beautiful Sunflower dress.

Beautiful paved and unpaved trails. You are almost guaranteed to see deer, turtles, geese, ducks and butterflies roaming around the park. The deer are not that afraid of humans so you can get pretty close to them. If you are willing to go a little off trail there are some wonderful isolated hammock spots in the middle of the plains. However be prepared to wade through miles of tall grasses and get ticks on your legs in search for these spots. This is a great park about 6 minutes from WSU for a quick getaway from city life.

Haven't been there in years, and boy where we missing out. Didn't plan on there being so many things to see and do. Exhibits are free and for children of all ages and adults. We spent @$100. in gift shop. Bought book's we wanted and didn't need. But they help out for a good cause. Everyone should go!!!
