Magnificent
view
of
winding
Rhine
river
and
endless
vineyards
on
the
opposite
side
in
Rhineland-Palatinate.
Parking
is
located
directly
by
the
viewing
place
and
every
time
we
visited,
free
spots
were
available
to
park
our
car.
However
the
parking
fee
is
ridiculous!
Charges
4
EUR
per
day
even
if
visited
for
a
short
period
of
time.
There
is
a
possibility
to
reach
Niederwald
by
cableway
from
Rüdesheim
but
we
have
never
tried
it.
Right
next
to
the
parking
lot
there
is
a
small
restaurant
/
café
offering
basic
snacks
and
drinks.
Toilets
were
nice
and
clean.
There
are
actually
two
viewing
places
to
visit
-
Niederwald
Temple
and
Niederwald
Monument.
The
firstly
named
offers
views
of
Rüdesheim
and
Rhine
river
all
the
way
up
to
Mainz.
Niederwald
Monument,
located
two
minutes
away,
overlooks
the
city
of
Bingen
and
Rhine
Valley.
Both
views
are
absolutely
stunning
and
one
of
the
best
in
the
region!
The
Niederwald
Monument,
commemorating
the
Unification
of
Germany
is
a
large
and
impressive
statue
surrounded
by
meticulously
maintained
grass
and
lavender
fields,
which
were
unfortunately
not
yet
in
bloom
during
our
last
visit.
Information
boards
were
located
near
the
base
of
the
statue,
available
both
in
German
and
English,
to
learn
something
about
the
historical
significance
of
the
place.
Stairs
and
platforms
under
the
statue
offer
a
great
place
to
sit,
relax
and
simply
enjoy
the
atmosphere.
A
small
souvenir
shop
selling
postcards
and
magnets
is
located
right
behind
the
statue.
This
is
a
regular
stop
on
our
itinerary
when
friends
or
family
comes
to
visit!
