This restaurant in this hotel gave you classy and casual in one. The features were beautiful, the atmosphere was welcoming, the food was exquisite, and the staff was remarkable and gave me that southern hospitality feel. Their music took care of little of every genre. I will continue to visit them every time I come back. This was the best spot I went in Ohio, but I still have some more sampling to do.

Quaint historic hotel in small-town southwestern Ohio. We were well taken care of both nights of our stay. Restaurant, downstairs, is a favorite for locals. Only negative, parking. Due to local events, there was very little parking near to hotel. Complimentary breakfast on Sunday morning, was delicious. Since the restaurant was closed, breakfast was only for those staying at the hotel.

Stopped in today after a day of local shopping and ready to have a great lunch. I've driven by for years and today was the day. We have a full bar, with 5 rotating specialty beers on tap. The bison burger was a real attraction for sure. Bit too many onions but still really good. Tavern fries are covered in cheese and ranch baked in, tastey but missing the bacon. The cheese curds were on point, but wish I had gotten the spicy ranch.

The restaurant is absolutely amazing! My fiance and I come to visit every couple of weeks and are always impressed by the food + service. The new outdoor eating area is gorgeous and a great place to enjoy a summer night. The Spinach Artichoke Dip is phenomenal and all of the cocktails are perfect. Thank you General Denver for always providing an incredible experience and atmosphere!

The Denver was a jewel in downtown Wilmington prior to the new ownership and (mis)management. (I'm speaking of the restaraunt only.) The menu has since been dumbed down, priced up, and every room in the place stuffed with big screen tvs in some strange hope of converting a respected and beloved upscale establishment into a sports bar in hopes of wooing the continuous flow of Equestrian Center vistor money; with no regard to local tastes. The long tenured and beloved staff has given way to a revolving door of neophytes that have no vested interest in the success of the restaraunt or the satisfaction of the visitor. The prises have risen repeatedly as the quality has gone in the opposite direction. Now only open four days a week, the best hope for this formerly wonderful eatery is a quick sale into competent and experienced hands.

Terrible service, I had to go up and ask for my app and entree at separate times. Then the server was more interested in my 7 month old then she was actually doing her job. This place has really taken a downfall the last couple years. They should close for good unless someone with sense can run it. Terrible 10/20/23 oh and it was appetizer was cold lol

They were slammed packed and the waitresses were doing the absolute best job that they could. Absolutely NO problem with the service, they were attentive and did everything they could to make us happy. The cauliflower wings are GREAT!!! 10/10 would eat again. However, after a two hour wait (once again not a waitress's problem), we got our food. I got the veggie burger with fries and was severely disappointed, but I was so hungry and scared to wait longer for food that I ate it anyway. The burger was fine the first bite, but every bite after that was crunchy and hard and like they overcooked it. The fries were disappointing, I got the seasoned fries and not even salt was on them. The shoe string fries were chewy, cold, not even fry consistency. I'm never coming back to Wilmington OH so I won't try it again to see if it was just a bad night for them, which it very well could have been. And if for some ungodly reason I find myself here again, I probably wouldn't try it again. Once again, The waitresses DID EVERYTHING THEY COULD. Even the bartenders helped out!

We only ate lunch in the restaurant. Ordered beers and 15 minutes later our waitress told us that the tap blew and as soon as they change it out we'll get our beers. Brought our food to us and no beers. Also our waitress did not appear to want to wait on us - she had attitude. Going to be hard to get me to agree to go back...food was excellent service sucked!

The hostesses, waiter and waitresses couldn’t have been more helpful. The food was very good. Suggestion: When taking reservations, it would be helpful if the customer was given a choice of inside, under the patio roof or outside the patio roof. Sharper steak knives would be good.

Food has always been good, but not necessarily consistent. For example, the trout is delicious, as is the garlic sauce it comes with. The sauce has been served over the fish, in a ramekin on the side, and even next to the fish (no ramekin). The fried green tomatoes are delicious, and I'll order them every time. Desserts are always fantastic. Service is wonderful--everyone is very friendly and helpful.

A mixed bag is the best way to put it. We sat at the bar. 2 people. Bartender was a little slow to get our first drink, but he got better as the evening went on. Good bourbon selection. I had the fish and chips. It was obviously a frozen pre-made product. Not bad, but a little over cooked and dry. Coleslaw was good. It's not too sweet, and the addition of broccoli was a nice touch. The other guest got Bourbon chicken sandwich. It was disappointing at best. Basically, it's just a grilled chicken sandwich with a pre-made "Bourbon" sauce drizzled over the top. With the limited options in the area, it is certainly one of the best in town. We just went for dinner. We were not guests of the hotel. The place had some charm and good atmosphere.

I have eaten here several times and let me tell you that tavern fries are beyond compare. I also love the bison burger with goat cheese. They're often very busy but the staff is always kind and helpful.

Really spectacular place for being so old. They've updated everything and have all your basic needs. I will say that not having a night elevator operator was disappointing and degraded the experience - we were on the 3rd floor, and the hotel has an old-fashioned elevator that needs an operator to run it. The restaurant was superb! I highly recommend the mushroom burger! Thank you, staff at the hotel, for making the difference and going the extra mile for us!

The price of one room is $150 a night. No fridge or anything. Just a bed and bathroom. Stayed here before and paid that with also having a fridge, bathroom, and breakfast was provided. They had the best breakfast. Now they have new owners that have changed everything, including making the price to stay there outrageous. I won't be back.

One of the most beautiful places to eat and drink I was really blown away! I would of never thought there would be a place so historic and cool outside of Cincinnati. I tried the spinach dip and the Cajun blue cheese burger and highly recommend. We went at 10pm after an event and the service and food was very good!

Bravo! Literally the absolute best Caesar salad I have ever had! If you don’t want to be ruined for CS anywhere else you better stay away from this option! In less than a week I have had two meals with chicken, and both times the chicken has been cooked to perfection…juicy and flavorful! Kudos to the chef!!! I can’t wait to bring my daughter to be blown away by the freshest Caesar salad! Thank you for a wonderful dining experience! We will definitely be back! The service was spectacular as well!

We were a party of 12 on 11/4/23 and it was everyone's first time there! The service, food and atmosphere was fantastic. I can't remember the name of the sweet young lady who was our server but she was very very good!! We all will be coming back very soon! Mary Grooms

Review for the restaurant: They have goat cheese. I was surprised at how clean and new everything seems because it is a rustic and historical place. It's been decorated and kept well. There's indoor, outdoor and halfway-between seating. The staff is friendly and they know the place well. We loved our food! I thought it would be fairly generic, but it is unique enough to where I'll remember the bourbon sauce, goat cheese on the burger, and all the little extra/nice/unique things. I have not been to the hotel.

I've never been to the General Denver, although my grandmother worked there during WWII. I ordered a steak and sweet potato fries, and both were delicious. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. We did not wait long for our food. The historical building is lovely and atmosphere is relaxing.

Booked the day before my stay; they were so helpful with helping me book the right room for me! I’m an alumni from Wilmington College that was staying Friday 12/9 -12/10 for a recruiting event. The location is so convenient to get to the college/ in middle of downtown! From my arrival the staff was exceptional they walked me to my room showed me around and just made me feel welcome/ best experience I’ve had as a hotel guest in a long time!!! The historic hotel is a must see (especially with holiday decorations right now) / if you’re staying in Wilmington overnight highly recommend! Thank you again for the great stay!

I stayed here for a work site we had out of town. The accommodations were really nice and felt like home. My room was small but very cozy and comfortable. The employees were super nice and made the experience awesome. All the food I tried for dinner and breakfast was amazing. Best burgers I've had in a long time. The fried green tomatoes were definitely my favorite appetizer as well. They also had a really cool, old school, elevator which was just another detail that made my stay there great. It was definitely an amazing stay and I'd definitely stay there again given the chance to.

We had a bad experience with the hotel, unfortunately. I was told there would be breakfast Sunday morning for patrons but when we came down there was no one and no service. The breakfast availability was one of the principal reasons I chose to stay here. This was also the case when we returned in the evening and our room card would not work. There was no one on duty to help us so we had to wait for someone to arrive. Moreover, we somehow triggered the alarm and the police showed up. I grew up in Wilmington and still have family there. I’ve always loved this building and the restaurant but have never stayed at the hotel. It was a disappointment and no one apologized or offered explanations for the inconveniences we incurred.

My husband and friends and I LOVE, LOvE the food and service. The food is eztrcnafory and every time we go we feel special. Janine and Joe (owners) are beyond wonderful. Locals and out of towers, please stay here, you will not be disappointed with the bar service, food and local charm of Wilmington OH. You will want to come back year after year, or maybe even month after month. We did.

Check your receipts. There was a computer issue charging 20% gratuity to the checks. That being said, the manager replied in a timely fashion and amended the issue in a very professional and polite manner. The food was great. Just keep an eye on your bills for a very unneeded 20% gratuity charge.

Good vibes with delicious food and drinks! Staff were friendly and accommodating! Tristan was our server and she was great. Crab cakes were the best. Filet was amazing, loaded mash was good as well!

I can only speak for the restaurant and not the inn. I grew up near Wilmington and the GD was always a fascinating but closed building for many years. It's now a thriving business from what I can tell and the food is good and priced reasonably for this type of establishment. I enjoyed the salmon which was perfect and then had the carrot cake for dessert. Everything is made in-house. I dropped a star due to the time it took to get our food; nearly 1.5 hours from the time we ordered. We were told that a large funeral party was the reason, but this was not told to us when seated.

Love this place. Get the warm pita chips with artichoke dip for sure. I appreciate the menu items with locally sourced ingredients too.

Everything was just perfect. Congrats to the chef. I had an awasome rissoto and my wife had a delicious pasta with chicken. Appetizers were also very good. Will be back soon.

Awesome food! Drive from Dayton every few months to enjoy. The James W Bleus never disappoint, good fried green tomatoes, the Jalapeño Cheddar burger is spot on and the Holy Cheeses is a must try!

Plenty of food for the price, was quoted 1 hr wait time on a Saturday night with a lot of local events, waited around 90 mins. Food was good waitress was great. Dessert was awesome and priced great as well.

99% of our food was fantastic (I wasn't inpressed with the sweet potatoe fry dip) and awesome service. Kelly Jo made sure that we were satisfied with our meal and kept up with our drinks. She went above and beyond to try and find the baseball game (Cardinals v. Reds) for us last night (it was only on Apple TV, unfortunately).

We just ordered takeout for our family of 10.. Done in 45 minutes and the food was excellent! We have never been there before but received a gift card for Christmas.. I'm so glad we did. This was awesome!

This is not just a hotel, it's an experience. The hotel rooms feel as if you're staying with a loving extended family member. Even if you don't want to spend the night, it's worth the drive simply for the world class food, plus, they have a bourbon bar that's just incredible! I can't express enough how much you should experience this. I promise you won't be disappointed!
