Thank you for making our 42nd wedding anniversary such a wonderful experience. Warm friendly staff, helpful and knowledgeable which made our stay so memorable for all the right reasons. Our warm was lovely, everything that you would require for a comfortable stay and the anniversary gifts were received and appreciated by ourselves. There wasn't anything within our stay to even consider complaining about whatsoever. The service was spot on whether it was from the cleaning staff to the the restaurant waiters. We have been here before so knew what to expect location wise (just off a very busy main junction A27/M27 you don't notice it while in the hotel) and although our last visit was many years ago, I don't think that we will be leaving it as long to return again. Thank you all for making our anniversary a very special one.

Back from a lovely 2 night stay at the Solent Hotel & Spa. Everything was just perfect and to high quality. The room was clean, spacious and very comfortable. the food was outstanding - from breakfast, to snacks to dinner! We enjoyed a day in the spa which was clean and not too busy (until 3.30pm when families started to enjoy the pool) The spa is lovely and we had a very good back and shoulder massage. The staff were outstanding -all very friendly and nothing was too much for them. would highly recommend!

A really disappointing experience, I’d highly recommend not to visit. I had booked a spa afternoon in advance for a friend and I, I was called a few days before the booking to be told that our treatments were one after another. When I questioned this, the receptionist was extremely rude and unaccommodating, meaning my friend and I spent an hour each alone by the pool when we were each having treatments when the purpose of the day was to spend it together and have a good catch up. By the time we were shown to the pool and then each had a treatment it was time to go. The treatment itself was carried out by a very junior member of staff, there was no synergy, the room was extremely hot and the whole treatment felt like it was delivered with fingertips. It felt awkward and uncomfortable and I was just laid there hoping it would soon end. We then went for afternoon tea at the end of the visit where we waited to be seated for 20 minutes in an empty restaurant, I was told to continue waiting where we were after asking twice at the bar if someone could assist us. The afternoon tea itself was awful, along with the service. I explained to the waitress that I did not eat meat, but anything else would be fine, to which she explained when she delivered the tray that I should avoid the lemon tart. We had a cup of tea and left the food. The whole experience was terrible, there was no client care or attention to detail and we felt more of a nuisance just being there. Not worth the money at all.

Very good 4 star, would stay again. The check in process felt longer than required although all staff were attentive and friendly. The decor is an odd mix of traditional (dark wood panelling and old fashioned pictures) and modern nautical theme (of the parts that have been updated it is very nice). The rooms appear to have been recently renovated with the exception of the bathrooms. Some really nice touches: Decorated room for birthday celebration Nice robes for kids and adults Activity pack, drink and snacks in the room for kids. Sweet treats in the room for adults Fresh milk and filtered water available from dispensers in the hall ways Nice bathroom amenities Garden bar and lounge area

My wife and i came here for a two day Spa break and very much enjoyed ourselves. Staff were welcoming and attentive without being invasive. Spa treatments were very relaxing and just what we needed (thank you Hazel and Ebony). Spa facilities were clean and seemed well maintained. Between us we used everything except the outdoor hottub (which I think is chargeable).

1 night stay before boarding a cruise. Lovely, clean room with fluffy white dressing gowns and slippers. We didn't use the spa but the breakfast in the morning was lovely. We also left the car for the 14 nights of the cruise which was handy. The taxi to and from the port was £20-£25 each way and took about 20 minutes. They could do with a little more signage as there are roadworks leading up to the hotel and roundabout!

Very happy with our stay at Solent Hotel. As part of our short trip to Paultons Park, our whole family of 4 spent one night here and everything was perfect. We had dinner at the pub (kids menu was great and live sports were shown on multiple TVs around the pub, plus the garden area at the back was beautiful). Continental breakfast the next morning was included in the room price (option to get a full English as an extra) and, both evening and morning service, was absolutely great. Room was great too, everything you may need with comfortable beds and a shower with really high water pressure (which is something I always miss on hotels!). Overall I highly recommend!

Service is generally good, conveniently located at Whiteley. Rooms and facilities are unfortunately quite tired and dated. Very noisy in the morning with the doors opening and closing constantly, so sound proofing can be better really. Apart from that, it’s really eco friendly. There’s a refillable water and milk facility which is really good

The hotel hosted my daughters and her partners wedding day. What an amazing day we had. All the staff were amazing and the whole day was managed perfectly. These guys deliver on their promises and nothing was to much trouble. Think about the best wedding day you could have and then live it.

This venue is great for Weddings, Christmas parties and general events. The staff are so friendly! Invite Events have been a supplier for over 4 years and have always felt welcome. The Hotel has so much to offer and very close to Whiteley which offers lots of entertainment, food and great range of shops.

Lovely 1 night stay. Rooms clean and perfect for 1 night. Swimming and outside lounge area very busy and no bar service unless you walked through indoor pool area and right round to the reception area bar and back ! ABBA tribute night was really good and the food excellent. Drinks expensive tho ! Breakfast and service very good. Although hotel a bit dated, I would definitely stay again.

A mixed stay. A lengthy queue to check in with seemingly over stretched staff. Room was fine and as expected, spa and pool was lovely but very very busy to the point they were turning people away which I can imagine was difficult for those turning up their robes. In the children's hours there were lots of children splashing and playing (which was perfect for us) but just something to note if you want peace and quiet go outside of the children's times. Good location for Peppa Pig World and a few restaurants over the road in the shopping outlet. The really disappointing thing for me was the service. I asked for specific items not to be in the room on our arrival. It was my daughter's birthday and she has an allergy to dairy and eggs. I asked for the 'extra touch' cookies and milk to either be vegan or be removed from the room so I didn't have an upset five year old on her birthday and an equally upset one year old. I was called a few days before the stay to book breakfast etc and the person I spoke to mentioned the note and said it'd be no problem to provide alternative items. On check-in (which took over 30 minutes to do) the lady mentioned that she'd spoken to the chef and alternative cookies were in the room. She then said 'if you're not sure give us a call back' which made me a bit anxious but I thought she was just being careful. On arrival into the room I was greeted with two milk chocolate pots on my children's beds! I then saw two cookies which had no allergy information on them at all. I called reception and they confirmed that they had not put alternative cookies in the room despite minutes prior telling me they had. My children were upset and one could have been very ill if these items had been consumed. I would have been very happy if they'd said they can't provide them and had taken them out of the room, what I object to is being told repeatedly they could cater and then to find they had provided totally unsuitable items with a half hearted apology. Would never stay again due to the terrible customer service.

I came here for a Saturday stay. Was very happy with the entrance and welcoming of the staff. The atmosphere was very Christmassy. The room was slightly oustdated but comfortable. The pool was amazing, although was quite busy at times. We went in the morning and had the pool to our selves at times. The facilities were clean and provided us with a towel. When I booked the room however, I had to then pay £20 for the pool for two people, which I thought was included in the price… The breakfast had many options, however think the pancakes were average. The hot chocolate wasn’t amazing either. Overall very nice location, and very closed to a lovely shopping centre. Would recommend for a weekend stay.

We enjoyed a 3 hour spa package here. We received complimentary gowns and slippers. Lunch was also included which was superb. The service was excellent too. The only downsides were no private dressing rooms, the pool was very cold and the jacuzzi wasn't working. These are slight issues but didn't detract from and enjoyable stay

Booked a family room here, and my expectations are so far from being met that I don't have any expectations anymore. For the price and 4* rating, I expected a decent stay, but alas! The room was OK to start with, and they provided robes and slippers, which gave me a false sense of good things to come, but having called ahead to book a spa treatment and to be told that the last entry was for 3.30pm when check in is at 3pm was a bit surprising but I didn't think anything of it at the time, fast forward to coming into the room and turning on the air conditioner then walking to the pool with my kids only to come back an hour later and the room was as hot as it was when we first walked in. At this point, still with standard expectations, I walk to the reception to ask them to get someone to look at the air conditioner in our room and was told, maintenance will get on it and they will call me to let me know the outcome as I was off to dinner with the kids. On our return from dinner 2hrs later, I stop by the reception to ask about the air conditioner as I hadn't gotten any calls and I was told it had been switched on and should be fine now. I thanked them and headed back to the room only to get there, and it wasn't, in fact, working, so I call them only to be told there was an error and they will bring some fans to the room given I had booked this for a 2night stay and this was happening on the first night, I asked if they would be sorting it out in the morning only to be told I can leave my complains at reception when I checkout. The shower head is fixed to the wall at the top, which makes it impossible to have a proper shower if you don't intend to get your hair wet. I had to call for shower gel to be provided, the toilet flushing mechanism didn't work properly and had to be held down for a length of time and or pumped, and I know of at least 2 other rooms whose air conditioners weren't working as of this first night. Bottom line if you are after an expensive bed and breakfast, with no air conditioner, then this place is for you.

Second year staying here, rooms are really big even with 2 adults and 3 children, pool is great for the kids and the little robes and welcome pack for the children is a nice touch. I would welcome booking direct with the hotel rather than using a booking site.

I love this hotel, but the quality is slipping. The location is in a beautiful area, and I love the outdoor space that they have. The style is of an older lodge, which is quaint and pleasant. The rooms are definitely in need of some updating, especially the bathrooms, which are fitted with old finishing, and have ludicrously strong water pressure. The restaurant's dinner service was much better in 2022, and the situation at breakfast can be a mess (over an hour to receive food that was hastily cooked, in spite of the restaurant being practically empty), with very little sympathy from the restaurant manager. Another issue is housekeeping - on busy days you'll find that there are used linens throughout the hallway for the better part of a day before being collected, and it did NOT smell great! They also are not good about restocking amenities, but when we mentioned this on several occasions the response was that they kept running out of items like washcloths and bedlinens because they weren't being laundered quickly enough. The front desk did end up taking care of that when we brought it up. All in all there are still some very nice staff at the hotel, but I get the sense that management is overworking everybody and I don't feel too good about that. Overall I did not feel it was a good value or a "4 star" hotel because of these issues, and I hope they get resolved so we can book again in the future.

Location's great, but the service is abysmal. The room we'd booked wasn't ready past 3pm; no big shakes, but we'd booked their spa appointments for 4, so, had to rush and be late for those (pre-booked). Dinner the service was just awful. Such a shame, used to be a nice hotel. Disastrous: avoid please.

If there were stars for the spa, it would be a 2 star. The restaurant was 3.5 star as we had a couple of negative experiences. The spa: We paid for 55 minute and 25 minute massages and facials. The 25 minute massages were only just 20 minutes. We complained and were refunded some of our money, which was fair. They stopped serving teas and coffees half way through the day - one of the things we like about the spa is that you can get a coffee by the pool :( they said they were too busy. Changing room and seating areas were not clean enough. Dinner was great. Good quality food and tasty. Very happy. However, breakfast was a whole other issue. Hair in our eggs florentine, totally raw fried egg, they forgot our toast until we asked for it and had to ask, and they only gave us enough tea for 2.5 cups full when there were 4 of us! All avoidable experiences, I thought. They had enough staff but they just weren't efficient or attentive enough.

Breakfast best we've had. Shower temperature and power perfect. WiFi great. Pool good size for a hotel and well run. Details don't right. Our room had tired decor here or there but nothing that bothered us. Bed Good. Sofa bed not as comfy, but for lightweight child so did not bother us. Service Great.

My group of friends and I attended an awards ceremony here. I can't comment on the hotel or staff itself in respect of staying here. We had an afternoon tea at the hotel and it was lovely. The food was really delicious, fresh and tasty! We liked the fact that there were some different types of food to eat other than the usual sandwich you get with an afternoon tea. The staff were brilliant, helpful, polite and friendly.

We booked the Solent Hotel for a small intimate wedding dinner. It was good but could have so easily been great. Lack of servers meant I was pouring my guests drinks, doors left open before we arrived so room freezing and although we sent guest list and menu choice, they had no idea who had ordered what etc.

Pleasant room with pleasant service. I'd recommend it, especially if you're getting on a cruise ship next day. Be aware though, if you get a room near the lifts, especially if there's a big wedding party there when you stay, there's a high pitched ping every time the lift is called or arrives at your floor. Not good if you're a light sleeper.

I booked the Afternoon Ritual for myself and my daughter as part of her 18th birthday. I booked it 2 months in advance expecting the same facilities and service as when I had been taken there in February. This was use of the Spa, treatment in a treatment room, relaxation room and afternoon tea. When we arrived, we were then told the treatment rooms were closed due to works. Our treatments were done in a hotel room which obviously does not have the ambience of a treatment room. You then have to get up and go back through the hotel and no relaxation room. The only place to sit was the terrace which was not relaxing at all with someone on their phone. Despite our afternoon tea being booked for 3.30, this took 20 minutes to come out. Upon leaving the spa, we walked past 4 members of staff. Not one asked us if we had a nice time or thanked us. When I contacted the Spa by email, I was told I had been advised by a call 2 days prior that the treatment rooms were closed. I still had the voicemail which actually said out treatment would be done in the double treatment room. DID NOT say anything about a hotel room or no relaxation room. We were offered a complimentary cocktail to make up for the difference. I paid £220 to this for us both and we got only part of the experience. They should have asked in advance if we were happy with this or offered it at a lower price. Such a let down for her 18th!

Attended a business meeting here so can't comment about the spa or rooms. The meeting from was well laid-out and had all the necessary equipment as well as iced water, glasses, pad and pencil for delegates around round tables. We had a self-service dinner which was absolutely delicious and had healthy options, plus in addition to the usual tea and coffee refreshments there was water and squash. Sweets and biscuits were available and very welcome! Definitely recommend for a business meeting or similar and I look forward to going again next time!

We held a team building off-site for 9 people at Solent Hotel & Spa and they were incredibly accommodating, helpful and looked after us like royalty. The food was plentiful and of a very high quality. So much so that we ate in the restaurant for 3 meals a day! Would definitely return if I need to organise something similar or need somewhere peaceful and well equipped to stay for a night or two.

We had a lovely weekend at the hotel, for our anniversary. The room was really good and had some thoughtful touches. The bed was comfortable and there was plenty of space. The staff went out if their way to make our anniversary special, with lots of personal touches. They were also very friendly. We enjoyed the swimming pool, sauna, hot tub and steam room. Very relaxing. Highly recommended staying here. Thank you

If your unfortunate enough to get a old room it's really dark and unpleasant, we asked to be moved but the reception told us we was in fact in a new room.. She was most definitely wrong as we had the pleasure of walking past all the nice new rooms on our way out. Food wasn't good, really pricey for such small portions and really odd concoctions. Definitely would recommend not to have the afternoon tea if you like traditional usually. One of them places that look good from the surface but then that's it.

Absolutely wonderful spa day experience. The pool is so beautiful and warm, hot tub was a lovely temperature and the towels and robes they provide as so comfortable! My therapist and my mums therapist were both absolutely fantastic. Will hopefully come again (though we did travel quite far!)

We booked a weekend crafting retreat at the Solent and everything could not have gone better. The staff are incredible, helpful, friendly, and very observant. I'm in a wheelchair and wherever I went it was as if they knew my requirements before I did. Nothing was too much or too trivial for every single member of staff. If there was any kind of question, it was dealt with perfectly and promptly.the rooms are perfect, spotless and very comfortable. The food was to die for! Will I go back? Heck yes! Happily.

  • 4/5 Nigel F. 1 year ago on Google
Best described as stuck in the 80s. Faded elegence best describes the dull corridors lined with pictures of long deceased people and other dull pictures. The rooms are furnished in dark wood furniture with dull lighting. Breakfast was fast food! Obviously kept under lights as no hotel could cook a breakfast in a few minutes. It was served on black plates which didn't enhance it's appearance. They catered really well with a large number of guests for lunch and the food was great. The prices at the bar were a bit steep especially for a filter coffee. The pub attached was much cheaper for food, drink and coffee. The spa and pool area looked great, but we didn't have time to sample them. Overall, not bad but not great for a 4 star hotel.
