Nice little hall with a replica of king Arthur table. Has pretty a little garden. Entrance fee is 5 pounds, free for children under 5. Easy to get in, no queues even on a bank holiday.

£4 isn't a lot but it might be expensive or cheap depends on how you see it. Given the location and how easily accessible it is and the cost maintenance I would say the price is quite fair. More could be done to the garden during winter visit since it looks quite lonesome... You could spend minutes or hours in here depends on how much information you wanted to find out about the site and the history behind it. But it is a must if you are visiting Winchester as a tourist since you do get a feel of how far back this place's history is.

A must visit place in Winchester. It doesn't take long to finish the tour if you don't read the history they have provided on the tour. But if you are a history buff, do read all the charts and digital information provided. The ornate doors installed in Prince Charles and Princess Diana's wedding were my favourite feature of Great Hall, only comparable to the enormous Round Table! Every emblem on the window have a rich history too. Anyone would be lost in the information and definitely start digging for more pieces of history around Winchester if they start their tour with the Great Hall.

Very nice stop while visiting Winchester. I would definitely recommend going here for both young and old alike. The Tower Street car park is very close to The Great Hall.

Part of Winchester Castle, long since destroyed, the Great Hall survives. Winchester was the capital of England in the early days, and this history is explained. The round table is an obvious draw, it is really old ..circa 1250 ?but nothing to do the King Arthur, who didn't exist. Well worth the small admission fee, plenty to take on board. Children and older people like myself can dress in medieval clothing.

Enjoyed a lot, a small place filled with history. You can dress in some clothes to make nice photos. But the place itself is very interesting to investigate. This huge wooden plate/shield with King Arthur is endearing.

Quite an interesting oddity, that was then used as a magistrates court until the 70s (or there abouts). Worth seeing the Round table, inspired by the Arthurian legend. Paid entry and gift shop as per

The round table is a real thing! Who knew? A really interesting way to spend a few hours, the guide was informative and friendly and the history lesson was very interesting. May be a bit boring for little kids as there is not much for them to do.

The Great Hall in Winchester had a rich history mixing facts, Royal visits and connections with myth and King Arthur's round table, made for a royal wedding. It is worth a visit and has a pleasant side garden.

10’ walk (uphill) from the Cathedral. The hall is beautiful and there is a replica of the round table. Go if you are interested in history, but skip it if you’re on a busy schedule.

3.5 stars. Short walk from Winchester station. It's £4 so can't really complain. Spend about 15 minutes here although for those who like to read there was plenty of literature in the last ng hallway near the gift shop that I didn't bother with. It was good to see the relative size of attractions - round table, gates. Stained glass was lovely. I wouldn't travel here just for this but as part of a day trip it was a nice way to finish the day before heading back home on the train.

We've been wanting to visit The Great Hall for some time and it didn't disappoint. Winchester is steeped in history and a visit here tops it off perfectly.. Excellent value for money and a wonderful education into King Arthur and the round table.... Well worth a visit 👍👍👍

What an interesting place. Atmospheric and so high! I've waited a long time to visit and it was amazing. Amazingly accommodating staff. Let me into a side door to use the lift to the long gallery and gift shop. Very friendly girl on the till, and lovely lady in the gift shop. Beautiful garden, small but smelt so amazing with the lavender and honeysuckle. The guide book has a lot of good photos and interesting facts. Cheap to enter at only £4 per adult, but that includes the peaceful garden. Guide books are £2 . Gift shop has a variety of things for all pockets.

Amazing building full of history. I easily could have spent hours in there. The stained glass windows were beautiful.

Kinda expensive for one room & some gardens. Glad I’ve seen it but definitely a one time thing. Winchester was nice to walk around.

  • 4/5 Jason M. 11 months ago on Google
Historic and fairly interesting if that's your thing. Low ticket price for a short walk around the hall. There is a small garden at the rear and a gift shop on the way out. The whole walk around takes no longer than 30 to 40 minutes, really, but interesting nonetheless.

We spent an interesting hour in the thirteenth century Great Hall where King Arthur's round table was on display on the back wall and Queen Victoria statue looked on. Queen Eleanor's Garden is a recreation of a medieval garden and is quite beautiful in its simplicity.

Not as impressive or interesting of a place as I'd hoped. There is some historical information with some of it interesting some of it not. The hall is nice to see, but that's about it for what this attraction has to offer. It is very suitable for children. I wouldn't recommend it to someone with limited time in Winchester, but it isn't bad either.

I’m here as part of the build team for Rabble Theatre’s Henry I. What a privilege. The building is absolutely immaculate, with 3/4 of a millennium’s worth of history - including ‘that’ round table. Thoroughly recommend going out of your way to visit this amazing part of our history!

A lovely places to visit - full of history and lots of information boards about to tell you all about it. Loved seeing the round table from the king Arthur story and reading the history behind. My favorite part was the wall full of the parliament members names and the queen Victoria statue.

An impressive 13th century building with lots of history. At the end of the hall on the wall contains the round table of King Arthur legend. There are lots of information boards throughout to provide historical details of ones who were tried here (and often sent to be beheaded!) and also details about the building itself. The small garden outside looked very pretty at the time we visited (September) It cost us £4 each to get in which we thought was great value.

I wanted to see King Arthur's round table. Although it isn't the original, it is still very old. Circa 1500's. A very interesting place. The only part of Winchester Castle left, except for a few parts of the castle walls. I thoroughly enjoyed my visit.

The Great Hall in Winchester is a historic and majestic architectural marvel that stands as a testament to centuries of English history. Built in the 13th century during the reign of King Henry III, this iconic hall exudes a sense of grandeur and tradition. Its striking features include a vast timber roof, stained glass windows, and a stunningly preserved Round Table, often associated with the legendary King Arthur.

Really enjoyable visit. Been wanting to see this place for a while. £4 per person entry which I think is reasonable for what you get to see. I'd happy revisit if I was in winchester again. Only downside was the gift shop was closed

Takes you back to a time long gone. HISTORICAL and MAGICAL at the same time. Well worth a visit and a lot to see and read about. Decent value at £4 to help with the upkeep of our great history of this land. Recommended to all. Well enjoyed!

Small entrance fee and interesting to see the Round Table...but sad to discover 'King Arthur' remains more Myth than Reality.. Or maybe thats the appeal.. Worth a visit and close to town centre x

Fascinating history of round table. Winchester dreamy.

This nicely maintained hall is about all that remains of the old castle. It houses the 13th century Arthurian Round Table, as repainted by Henry VIII. The hall was initially demolished by Cromwell following the Civil War, given that it had been used by Royalists. Look out for the portrait of the infamous Judge Jefferies, who held the bloody assizes here in 1685. It's worth going into the small garden at the rear to see tar on the far stone wall. That's all that remains of the partially built Kings House of Charles ii, which burned to the ground.

Fascinating building, helpful staff, sweet little garden, dressing up clothes for kids and adults, and plenty of information. And of course the Round Table, which is a lot older than I thought (although obviously not original to Arthur!)

  • 5/5 Bryan H. 2 years ago on Google
Not many places would you go to these days in order to see & be impressed by an old table but, in the context of an old building, well worth paying the small entry fee to see these two parts of this country's heritage. Just amazing how are ancestors were able to hang this huge item to the wall.

  • 5/5 Carol P. 2 years ago on Google
Interesting history display simple on the exhibition. Do not expect to see knights and weapons, all are just pictures and narratives. Recommend.

Beautiful place, do not deserve to pay for it... And it is not included in the English Heritage membership... That's amazingly ridiculous...

Incredible old building. Small and unassuming but just stop and read the history. This was the centre for law for centuries in England. Walter Raleigh was sentenced to death in this hall. It held thousands of legal cases, banquets and also the King held court here. So much history in a small but impressive place. Not to mention the original round table!

  • 5/5 Kristopher K. 2 years ago on Google
There is the Round Table hanging on the wall, complete with Arthur and his Knights. On the other side of the building are a set of iron doors, commissioned to be in honor of Prince Charles's wedding with Diana. Looks like something the production designers to Game of Thrones borrowed.... Touring can be done alone or with a guide. Good souvenir shop!
