Fantastic hotel with incredible service! Katherine Restaurant is top notch and food is amazing! We stay here every time we come to Winston-Salem and continue to have a great experience! Highly recommend especially if you have kids because of the recreation room in the basement. There’s half court basketball, pool table, bowling alley, ping pong table, stand up video games and more. Rooms are always clean and hotel smells great no matter where you are. Style, design, service, amenities, food, and a great staff make this Winston-Salem’s best stay.

We were driving to South Carolina from Ontario Canada and this was the perfect place to stop after about 12 hours of driving. The hotel is simply fantastic. We have never stated in the hotel with such a big game's room and an indoor half court basketball court. I can't believe they also had arcades, and my favorite game Street fighter was there. My teenage boys thoroughly enjoyed the basketball court while I waited for them playing the arcades. The service was impeccable as well. This was all the way from check in to check out. We stayed in a room with double clean beds and a full of sofa for the five of us. The hotel was also very close to a number of coffee shops, which gave us a few more options in the morning.

First, I'll start with the positives. The bathroom in the Premium King is great. The tub is deep and provides a relaxing experience. The decor, although dated, was tasteful. The carpet is looking worn, as is some of the decor. Now, on to the negatives of my stay. The AC didn't work on one of the hottest weekends in the year. An engineer was sent up to fix it but unfortunately, it didn't work. I then simply wanted to heat up some food after a long evening out at an event, went to the lobby and was curtly told "we don't have public microwaves, we can have one sent up." At 11PM, I don't want to wait 30 minutes for an employee to bring it up. More pet peeves, they will knock on your door on a wekened at 930/10am pandering drinks and snacks, some buzzer sound goes off every 30 minutes (inexplicably), and of course, the preceding guest set the alarm for 6am on the clock and no staff thought to check it. Unfortunately, much like the title of a book, this was a series of unfortunate events paired with some disappointing elements within the hotel. I think they rely too much on the beauty of the historic structure rather than on customer service or basic common sense items. I wouldn't recommend against staying here, but there are nearby properties that offer more for a lower rate. This property is on the more expensive side and unfortunately didn't meet the mark.

It'd be hard to do better in Winston-Salem! We hosted a number of wedding guests here and everyone had a fantastic stay. The hotel block was easy to organize, the hotel was prompt in providing updates, and during our stay everything was lovely - the room was clean, room service tasty and on time, and the front desk was extremely helpful, particularly in our search for a lost package. The building itself is quite stunning, though it's clear they'll need to invest in some TLC soon to keep it that way given the through (and stylish) renovation is now 6 years ago. But that won't stop me from a 5-star review, we couldn't have asked for much more.

the hotel his very nice, the rooms were fresh and clean. they have a whole rec room with bowling , pool, ping pong, and even a basketball court! the restaurant attached, serves some good food. All staff were very friendly as well. Why 4 stars instead of 5? for those prices, you can't be charging people for wifi access, it's 2022 stop it.

The hotel is showing a bit of age, otherwise excellent. The location couldnt be better. The staff is a 5/5, these folks genuinely work hard, are as polite as possible, seem to love their jobs and are quick to address any and all needs, from the valet to the maintenance/engineer team. A special note about the night-time maintenance/Engineer employee Nate, he was so polite and quick on 2 separate occassions to fix my sink and then later to anticipate the battery needing replaced in my smoke alarm as not to potentially wake me overnight--what amazing customer service!!!

Arguably the best hotel in Winston Salem. Starts out with a great front desk staff. Very comfortable lobby/reading area right next to check-in. And on the other side is the Katherine Brasserie and Bar - also arguably the best restaurant in Winston Salem. Rooms are spacious, well appointed and very comfortable. Quiet too. It is also a pet-friendly hotel. Very lively atmosphere in the lobby/restaurant, but none of the noise flows into the rooms, which is very nice. Valet parking takes care of the minimal parking in the area. And the prices are reasonable for such a nice hotel (though I'm sure they go up during peak periods for the local schools).

Valet and luggage assistance was quick and friendly. Preston made a great first impression. Check in was quick and informative. Rooms really clean. Hotel decor was fun to see as I enjoyed the history. Love the downtown location. We will be back again!!

It's only a mediocre hotel where my family has stayed before. However, they are very inflexible, and despite a recent Covid positive, they would not alter our booking. We didn't want to cancel, merely postpone. They refused to accommodate us at all, presumably preferring to welcome Covid positive guests. Oh, and "valet parking" is simply street parking, and the neighborhood isn't great.

I love the Kimpton Hotels, this one was a let down. Front desk was awesome. Room was not clean. We called housekeeping several times, they don’t answer or return calls. We had room service took a long time and had to call several times to get ahold of someone. We ended up calling front desk to put us thru. We left a pair of ray ban sunglasses that I am sure housekeeping found on the bed but could not reach them after we left to see if we could pick up or they could mail. Very disappointing.

this is probably one of the nicer hotels in Winston - we enjoyed our stay - it is near some less desirable attraction of Winston (the bus depot) but never felt unsafe. lots of little shops and restaurants near by. room was great, staff was great!

We stayed here after a long day of traveling. The rooms were very nice and all the staff was very personable. Pets are welcome too! I would definitely stay here again. It is downtown and has it's own bar/restaurant.

Ok, I had a nasty earache and migraine starting when I got here so I may be kind of crabby. My profile requests a quiet room and I told the desk clerk I wasn't feeling well so wanted to be sure my room was quiet. And it's Wednesday so not a high volume night. First room they gave me had dirty sheets at the door so I called to see if the room was actually ready. They said they would move me. I didn't ask to be moved. I just wanted to know if it was clean. So they moved me to a pet floor. I love dogs and love that hotels take them. When I travel with my dog I expect a more run down room and some not so great smells. Our wonderful pups have accidents sometimes. But I don't have my dog with me and have a heightened sense of smell with my migraine. So I complained. So they gave me another room complete with the noise from a a generator. I wanted to post the video from it but haven’t figured out how. Also, ordered a filet mignon from their restaurant to take to my room. Just opened it up and there’s plastic silverware. Really? I had seen good reviews and maybe it's just the desk clerk, who I just discovered is the supervising manager, and bad luck on my part today. Hard pass for next trip here.

I want to love this hotel for so many reasons but at the end of the day, it falls short. Beautiful building, great amenities for families with kids and a perfect location. My main problem is the bedding and smell of the rooms. I’ve had rooms that don’t smell but twice it’s been so bad I can’t sleep. It’s a subtle old cigarette scent that sort of sneaks up on you. Maybe it’s from the AC? Or just sunk into the carpet?? Either way, it’s unbearable to me and I wish the hotel would do some updates to clear that smell out. The bedding is threadbare and rough with very lumpy pillows. There is a down comforter on the bed but it’s the thickness of two sheets because all of the down is missing from use. Even when we requested a new comforter, the replacement was the same. This happened on two different stays. I think this hotel is much closer to a 3 star hotel and for the price it costs to stay here, I think I am more comfortable in a cleaner, less expensive hotel that offers less kid friendly amenities. I am hopeful that eventually the hotel will do some upgrades so we can enjoy the hotel in the future.

First of all, I am a fan of Kimpton hotels. However, this hotel is UNMATCHED!!! The usual amenities in addition to the game room makes you feel like you are in wonderland or an all-inclusive resort. The best part is the service and the staff. Tyler was ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!!! He rolls out the red carpet to ensure your stay is more than enjoyable. As I walked by to explore the city, he would inquire about my stay and if there was anything I needed. The attention to detail and personal care made me feel at home. Tyler was intentional and provided elevated service. He truly made my trip memorable and created a great wonderful birthday. Another staff member was Hannah. She was my “happy hour” girl and made easy conversation to help me feel welcome despite being alone. There is NO other place you should stay except here. You want quality service and an amazing service. This hotel is it!!! Thank you for an UNFORGETTABLE experience!!!!!

This is an elegant hotel at a reasonable price. I love IHG properties and we usually stay in Holiday Inn Express locations as we travel, simply because they are usually outside the center of the city and easily accessible to the freeway. This property would be ideal for someone staying in the city for business, the rooms are lovely and comfortable and include a well stocked mini bar. They have a delightful lobby with a nice coffee bar; friendly, courteous service. I would stay in this hotel anytime.

Very nice accommodations at a reasonable rate. The staff was friendly and the hotel has a lot of charm. Our room was comfortable with a very generous shower. As with most older hotel buildings that are built solid as a mountain, the hotel is pleasingly quiet. The only issue that some might have had was the location of our 4th floor room. Outside one of the windows was a huge air handling unit, a floor or two below. While we actually like the white noise of a fan running, some might find it annoying. For those folks, maybe requesting a street-facing room would be a good idea. The location was convenient for us to walk to our event and the surrounding businesses. We will definitely stay here again when life brings us to Winston-Salem again.

The experience was lack-luster honestly. My family and I weren’t blown away from our stay here. One reason for the low service rating was due to having to call the front desk multiple times for little things like towels and cleaning. A reason for the low room rating was due to the placement of the desk in the King bed room - it physically impeded the ability to move around the room. The location itself reminded me of The Great Gatsby - from the vintage feel of the hotel aesthetic, to the decor on the ceiling and on the walls on the elevator. All in all, I wouldn’t suggest staying here.

Restaurant is great facilities are pretty nice, several amenities are nice to have available such as rec room. Parking sucks if you don't like valet service for one reason or another PLUS IT'S EXPENSIVE for this area, I've had to pay the same amount downtown Charlotte, Savannah, Chicago etc, but Winston Salem..... yeah right. Everything here is an add on cost, want good wi-fi, that's extra, can't connect your device to the TV (no USB, HDMI or any ports available) which is a major issue for me since I like to use the TV as a large laptop monitor for business use and I like to catch up on my Netflix also when out of town. I was impressed by the bat and the restaurant, a bit overpriced for the area but not for quality, A+++ on them for service standards.

Impressive public spaces as one would expect in such an historic Art Deco building. Service was good, not great. The room was lacking. How about a comfortable chair? There is certainly enough room for one in the room. And the barn door to the bathroom surely looked fun on paper but is a functional fail. But hey, there’s a yoga mat in the closet so we’re good!! I would probably only give the place three stars but I’m adding one for adaptive reuse of a magnificent structure. I think I would have been just as happy staying at their sister property the Indigo across the street at half the price and just coming here for a drink in the snazzy bar.

This is a awesome hotel and my bf and I come every year for our anniversary. April 10 made 3 years . They always make it special and we enjoy going but this year the lady told me they didn’t see our reservation requests and we def not enjoy our anniversary. They after I complained attempted to accommodate me but it was awful . Tyler stated she didn’t see my requested so I screen shot them and sent them just a huge mess won’t return next year .

Very impressed with how dog friendly this hotel was! A great stay for us and our two dogs, perfect walking distance to a park, walking trail, breweries and so many restaurants. The game room with a basketball court and bowling alley was a nice added bonus. Only complaint was the cleanliness of the room- noticeable dirt on the windowsill and dirty glasses in the room. Overall a great option and would definitely stay there again!

This hotel gives off major classic and sophisticated art-deco vibes. It was such a wonderful experience for the four days and three nights that I was able to utilize their services during a fantastic regulatory medicine and stem cell summit! The staff were very welcoming, and the valet was exceptional, especially given the limited parking around the hotel. A notable exception to limited street parking was the public parking garage behind the building, which was not the most convenient to use given what looked like substantial construction set up inside. I love that they have special floors for pets and don't charge extra for your fur babies. This was a significant accommodation because "if they fit through the doors," they can stay; I felt that to be a thoughtful aspect of the hotel's services. The hotel's pet policy was a refreshing point of great convenience, considering if I had brought my family, it would have included our two Bernese Mountain Dog puppies. Nevertheless, come here! Stay and enjoy their chocolat pot de creme (an exceptional dessert) after feasting with friends, family, or colleagues at the adjoining restaurant. You will undoubtedly enjoy your stay!

AB-SO-LUTELY the best! Great environment. Great vibes. Outstanding food/cocktails. This is one hotel that’s worthy of the “never forget” title. You’ll never want for anything while at The Cardinal, everything you could ask for is just a phone call away or downstairs. 10/10 would book again in an instant.

Room was very hot! Didn’t sleep! Woke up sweating at 2am could not go back asleep. Lowest thermostat setting is 67. Why is a 4 star hotel restricting the thermostat?? Holiday inn express or Hampton 3 star hotels do not!!

My husband and I stayed here after a long drive from Louisiana. We normally wouldn't pick such a nice hotel but we wanted to splurge a little so we did and got a room with a soaking tub. We were excited to stay here, however upon arrival to the hotel, no one offered to help with bags, as we struggled to get them through the door, our room smelled like curry and chicken noodle soup? We booked two nights and they charged me 100 per night for incidental fees on top of regular charges which I understand is refunded at the end. However, they never told me this, they only informed me of the one night charge. When addressed regarding the charges, they just kept explaining that is their policy and there was nothing to do about it. They also didn't seem to have a helpful answer for anything. I just expected more, when paying so much. I've had a better experience at a holiday inn express.

The housekeeping did a horrible job cleaning the room. We make it easy for them to clean by putting all our personal items away and gathering all used items (glasses, empty bottle and garbage) to be taken away. Returned to room and no surfaces had been wiped down (night stands had dust and crumbs) and used cups and bottles were not removed. Bed was remade but the sheets were wrinkled. Cleanliness is one of the most important things we look for in a hotel and this one is not as advertised.

Walking distance from Downtown night life. Take a stroll down fourth and enjoy a few drinks along the way. Hotel bar was very nice and the rec room was very enjoyable. Billiards table, shuffleboard, bowling lanes and a basketball half Court.. bring your own pool sticks the ones there had broken tips.

I recently stayed in this hotel for work totaling four weeks and I was very pleased. Great experience! The concierge, valet and employees of the hotel & restaurant were incredibly welcoming. They always made it a point to greet me by name every morning before leaving for work. The valet had my vehicle waiting outside every day at 8:30 am sharp. The coolest part was the basketball court, bowling alley, and old world charm of the architecture. All in all it was a great break while away from home working.
