Dined 1750 hours, 28DEC21. Had the restaurant tried for 6 months, training daily for hours on end, it could not have offered a more unappealing dining experience. The server deserves a special award for incompetence, disdain, and disregard. She deserves a Culinary Pulitzer Prize for Terrible Service. The food itself was as bored and tasteless as the restaurant. Truly the worst dining experience I have ever had on three continents. Dear Owner: you need to reevaluate why you are in business. Is there even an owner? Didn't see one. A dining room supervisor? Never saw one. Another diner? Nope? Needing service, I strolled to the bar, and literally knocked on the counter and shouted for 3 minutes. Nobody came. A really bizarre experience. Forewarned is forearmed. Good luck.

Half a plate of uneaten food on the reception desk, guess it was someone's dinner, unfinished that greeted us. Place was cold, my friend wished he had bought a jacket. Starters were OK, to be honest, but the mains were terrible. Mains, cripsy chilli beef was hard and unpalatable. Rice was nice, that was about it for the banquet meal. The other dishes did not wow me. The dessert I was appalled. Fruit salad, supposedly. Finely chipped up red and green apple, small scoop of ice cream, and a bit of squirty cream and I guess strawberry sauce to make it look edible. See the pictures. I like ice cream, the rest was not nice. Appalling service, took 10 to 15 mins for my drink to arrive, twice. My friend had to go and have a chat with the staff as they were giggling, talking rubbish and making more noise than the 6 clients in total they had. Disappointing. I like eating out but this is not worth going to unless you want to waste your money and suffer bad service.

AVOID If you want to stay safe!! If I could give it 0 stars I would. When we arrived at the Red Lion on Saturday night, I was verbally abused by another customer at the bar. One female member of staff called Toni heard what the male said to me, and then said to me, β€˜you better not kick off about this, we have to serve him as he is a paying customer.’ This is all came as a complete shock to me as I was too a β€˜paying customer’. Having let this go and turned around to my friends to tell them about what had just happened, the male was taken out of the pub for another incident. To my utter shock, my drink was then crushed in my hands by a female staff member with brown hair called Hannah and I was then grabbed by a male bouncer with curly black hair and man handled out of the bar for no reason whatsoever- I have bruises all over my arms from this. My friends we also kicked out by a female staff member with brown hair. As we waited outside in shock, an older, kind bouncer told us β€˜the girls do this every week. They pick on people, usually other girls, randomly and have them kicked out the pub for no reason.’ We called the police an have given a statement and cctv will be looked at and charges pressed. Do not go here if you want a pleasant night out. Never in my life have I been treated so disgustingly from arriving up to leaving. In light of what has been happening to women in recent news, I could not believe how my friends and I were treated by the male at the bar, the females and male bouncer employed here. I will be passing this on to as many people as possible to avoid them being bruised in the way I have been both internally and externally.

Thoroughly enjoyed the evening here. Staff were excellent and friendly. Ambiance was relaxed and laid back. Food was outstanding. Highly recommend to all. Nice little known restaurant tucked away. If you haven't been you should pop along and try. Pricing was fair too... looking forward to next time.

This was at one time by far the best Thai restaurant I'd ever used. Sadly it is now just a shadow of its former self. I visited it at the weekend and have to say how disappointed I was, in fact it ruined our evening. Although the food itself is still pretty good, the overall dining experience wasn't. The place was freezing, and the service was ridiculously slow. 4 of us had the set banquet meal but left before the dessert course arrived. If we'd waited we may have been frozen solid before it arrived. The staff were young and seemed inexperienced and nervous and as sweet and polite as they were, they just weren't up to the previous standard that I'd experienced. This was once a place I'd recommend to anybody..alas not any more. Best advice I could give.....go to the Giggling Squid!

Great evening at Red Lion! A group of 8 of us went for dinner, all ordered the Thai platter. Huge portions and the food was gorgeous! Great service too. I will definitely be returning soon.

My husband and I thought the food was delicious and they catered brilliantly for me being gluten free. Would highly recommend and have already booked to go again!

We had an excellent experience here. The food was absolutely delicious and reasonably priced too. The service was second to none. We will definitely be returning! Can highly recommend to anyone. It is up stairs with no lift so bare that in mind if you have accessibility issues.

Red Lion has a great atmosphere on a Saturday. I've had food there before with quick service and high quality.

Ordered delivery directly with Restaurant. Food quality was poor, deep fried food was heavy and oily. Disappointed as it had lots of good reviews.

My go to place for Thai Cuisine, consistently good food, lovely staff and a great atmosphere for the DJs on the weekend. Highlight dish - Tom Yum Soup

The service was 10/10! The lady who was our waitress was so accommodating and friendly. She recommended dishes to us that were delicious. She also went out of her way to go and purchase vegan ice cream so we could have it with our dessert. Above and beyond!! 🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟

The place is very beautiful : an 18th century tiny house. The restaurant is in top of a pub which is like sneaking to two different worlds. The food is very tasty and very well presented I think there's a bit of everything you expect in a Thai menu, but I always prefer the prawns to start and chicken green curry which is exceptional, sweet just the right amount of salty, spicy and creamy... And it's cook rather fast but doesn't look heated up, rather very fresh. The price is fair, expect about 25Β£ per person and there's good variety of Thai cocktails and mainstream drinks from the pub. The neighbourhood is very pretty as well as not a local to Wokingham

Food was excellent (Thai Red and Thai green curry). Bit strange as it felt like a British pub, even in the restaurant area upstairs. However, can't fault the food.

Fantastic food was at odds with the low rent decor... tatty chairs repaired with tape. Very busy, enjoyed the food, and the service was excellent.

Edited 23rd July 2022: This was a 5 star review with great feedback, unfortunately I've had to change this. Usually had great experiences with this restaurant, but it seems to have gone severely down hill. Had take away delivered a couple of months ago, order was wrong and was told by a female manager that we would be able to have 1 main course on the house next visit. Fair enough I thought... Mistakes happen. We've been twice more now and had a 3rd takeaway. Every time The Manager is not available, nothing has been written in a book about the compensated meal... Been there tonight again, this time the manager was also not available. All waitressing staff seemed to be very young and not have a clue what was happening! The drinks menu was not detailed enough, I asked for a plain sider, got given a bottle of fruity cider. Had to ask for the bill to come twice, to be paid twice... The service over the past few months with the waitressing staff has gone progressively and severely down hill. Don't get me wrong, the food is absolutely top notch... But the waiting staff unfortunately need some major attention!!! Please train your staff properly. After all this... I'm still waiting for my replacement Pad Thai...

Excellent food and service. This is one of the few real Thai restaurants in the UK. (it also has a bar, as per a normal English pub, so you can pop in for just a beer if you want) None of the food has been Anglicised, it's as you would expect to get when being served in Thailand. Can't praise this place enough. The only downside is that it's not open weekday afternoons. A great pity.

This is the best Thai in Wokingham, but food isn't always consistent. Tonight I got takeaway and the chicken penang was yummy (if a little oily and Thai food shouldn't really be oily), but the portion of sweetcorn cakes was pretty small. Last time the penang was too oily and the sweetcorn cakes were bigger and better. I still continue to use them because the people are lovely and this is a local business, but I wish I could guarantee the same standards each time.

Have frequented this place many times because the food is consistently good. The restaurant is the upstairs part of a pub in central Wokingham. Old building so slightly dodgy stairs and a little restricted head height but nothing precarious. It's generally busy which shows its good and service is usually prompt. Not overly posh but doesn't pretend to be. Good food, central location, very pleasant meal out.

For what use to be a lovely Restaurant and bar this is sadly now a quite awful place to visit. Where do I start, 5 of us went to the restaurant for food. Ordered 2 starters and 5 main meals. Waited over an hour and 1 starter and 2 mains came out at the same time. Waited a little longer and nothing else arrived. Saw the staff and was told nothing else was on the order. All this time of waiting not one drink turned up. Then when I went to complain all I was told was to stop being rude even tho I wasnt. I finally received my drink but still no food so I went back to the till, said I wish to pay for my drink then im leaving. Staff are rude, havent a clue how to even take an order, never again will I visit this place under the current owners.

Really delicious food, but the waiting time was far too long. Over half an hour just to get drinks. Will not be rushing back.
