The family home of Charles Harper, a WA businessman active from the 1860s until his death in 1912. When this house was built in 1885 it was described as the finest private residence in the colony of Western Australia. Harper lived in the Toodyay/York region before being one of the earliest settlers of the North District, now known as the Pilbara region of WA. He was active, and successful, as a pastoralist and pearler. When the area faced starvation after the sinking of the Emma in 1867 Harper was chosen to lead an overland party to Geraldton to plead for a ship to be quickly sent to bring supplies. Selling up in the late 1870s he was part owner of a newspaper and an influential MP. He founded what became Guildford Grammar School in Woodbridge as a place to educate his large family. Two of his sons were killed in the famous charge of the Australian 10th Light Horse at The Nek, probably the most disastrous 30 seconds in the history of WA. The report of one of his sons running towards the Turkish machine guns to meet his death inspired the character of Archy Hamilton in the Peter Weir/Mel Gibson film 'Gallipoli'. Woodbridge is now owned by the National Trust of Australia and has been recently renovated. Entry is $10 for adults $7 children and pensioners.

Woodbridge home was built in 1885. Located beside the riverbank of Swan River in the Mandoon area. It has antics furniture, the architecture of colonial times, and many more surprises for the visitor to find out about this 136-years-old building. The fee is payable at the entrance to the building. Besides, there is a good Riverside restaurant across the garden. And there is a wooden jetty on the Swan River. The environment is also very beautiful. Certainly worth your time to bring the visitor to visit this Awesome Woodbridge at Mandoon. Home open from 1 PM to 4M, Thursday to Sunday only. Check the hour before you go, mate. Cheers! (2021-06)

Great Riverside location. Guildford has so much history for the Perth settlement. Great cafe nearby. Pop in and take a look. Entry is on the left-hand side of Governor Sterling High School carpark.

I love this place. So peaceful and sheltered. Only recommended on weekends as the school is near by and rowers use the landing.

Was unimpressed with the demeanor of the server when we've found out that our orders are unavailable, as if we should just be ready to order something else as soon as we're told that theyve ran out of what we went there for ! ๐Ÿ™„๐Ÿ˜ค Two mains on the menu were unavailable on a weekend lunch. We find that odd. Food was not bad. Undecided if we'll return.

Walking to outside seating tripped and fell while carrying grandchild, barely an acknowledgement from staff. Customers more helpful, one pointed out why I fell two bricks on slight hill were 1cm higher. Thank goodness grandchild not badly injured, me I have a fractured patella. Rang to speak to them was told owner would ring me back. Four weeks later nothing.

May have rated it higher but we only attended with all facilities were shut. Very impressive building though.

Brother had his ceremony here. The area was nice, good views. The area we set up on was out the back with the river view. Unfortunately, there was no availability for toilets. Several people had to leave early just to find a bathroom at a local service station.

Incomplete review as the house was closed. However my daughter went with her school and had a fun, historical experience (her class dressed up in late 1800s style) The grounds are well kept with picturesque views of the area including Guildford Grammarโ€™s extensive grounds
