👍👍 Delicious, classic menu. Cozy restaurant with friendly staff. I took my gf here. She has lived a long life of eating chicken hearts, chicken feet, and gizzards and, now, I want her to enjoy the finer things in life. Today, she learned what a cornish hen is and she enjoyed it with ketchup. Charcoal c... People often mention menu, restaurant,

This place is a time capsule and I can’t wait to go back. If anyone knows how I can buy the dracula mansion across the street, let me know.

I’ve been coming here ever since I was a little kid and I still love it just the same! The atmosphere is so cozy, like many other reviewers said it feels like you are eating in your grandparents house. Also the fried chicken basket is always a must!

When you walk in the door at Charcoal Chef in Woodbury, CT, it feels like you have entered your grandma's cozy and homey dining room; the service is friendly and sweet, almost like your grandma or aunt were serving you. The burgers were excellent, no frills or expensive add-ons, huggs are offered free!.

This is a great little old time diner/restaurant. Nothing fancy, no ornate decorations, no glitzy lighting or flamboyant table settings. There's a whiteboard on the wall white the daily specials. If you are looking for a place to impress someone and spend a ton of cash, you're probably looking for something else. For me it's a 5 star though. Small town feel, great service, food, & drinks and friendly waitstaff. So if that sounds like something you'd like, then you can't go wrong. Try it and you'll be back. Just plain old goodness!

Unique “old reliables” on the menu like franks and beans, Bloody Marys, to my choice of the plant based beyond burger, which was delicious. The onion rings were crispy and not greasy in the slightest. The fried chicken was equally plentiful, well seasoned and not greasy. The restaurant is very clean and the throw back decor charming. Would definitely visit again on my next trip through town.

We had a great meal, NY strip steak, unseasoned, and cooked to the right temperature. It was a larger portion than we're used to for the very reasonable price. The steak, salad, baked potato and strawberry rhubarb pie were outstanding. I remembered coming to this restaurant as a child.with my parents and I was so happy to see it thriving after all these years! I made it a point to tell my local relatives that they need to make a point to visit for a great meal in a comfortable atmosphere.

I come here quite often because I enjoy the rotating cocktail menu, one of my favorites is the mango tango. I’ve had a variety of food off the menu and everything has been great. I appreciate the authenticity of the décor throughout the restaurant as well.

I’ve driven by this place for years and finally decided to give it a try. We should have walked out the moment we stepped inside, since it smells like a nursing home in the dining room. Ordered a medium rare burger that came out well done. The bun and vegetables were fresh, but the burger patty was barely thicker than the slice of cheese and must have been cooked on a George Forman grill, since there was no hint of charcoal smoke on it! The fries were undercooked and soggy. For a place that’s been in business for 67 years, you’d think they’d learn how to cook fries by now. They should change the name to the Electric Grill Chef. The waitress was too busy playing with her phone and didn’t bother to check in on our food until it was time for the check (despite there only being a few guests in the restaurant). Don’t waste your time and money on this dump!

I went in for a quick bite. I saw on the menu it said somthing along the lines of "old reliable's" or what ever. I ordered a chili dog off the menu and I wish I took a picture of what I was served. The old lady in normal lazy day clothing handed me a plate full of Chilli, (looked like Chilli from a can) under that Chilli was a terrible hotdog. I am not kidding you couldn't find this hot dog. The bun was like they used it as a sponge to clean the kitchen, the Chilli was horrible. I saw Flys everywhere, the staff definitely are well past when they should have called it quits and retired. I'd happily never go back

Great lunch with mom, but when I talked to the owner, she snapped at me like a turtle! The waitress never brought our check, so I went to pay at the counter, and was so verbally abused she drove a Veteran right away who came over and spoke with me afterwards very nicely. Why would you be so cruel to someone who was with their blind, disabled mom?
