Why is it all Joules pubs are so good? This one certainly does not disappoint apart from the understandable 4:00 pm opening on a Thursday afternoon. Only the two cask ales on today but the Blonde ale is such an easy drinker. Well worth a visit if only to read up about the history of the place - a truly impressive building.

The Royal Oak is a lovely pub me and my wife always go there on our date night and always get a warm welcome. The pub itself is really clean. I would recommend a visit if you're in town.

Great staff and good choice of ales

I attend here for the fold night run once a month by a local chap. Always a nice atmosphere, friendly staff, local to taxis and transport. All in all a great little pub. Would recommend

Great traditional pub with real ales, real fire and great staff. Enjoyed it very much and will return. Not the cheapest however it's worth it to escape the riffraff!

Visited over the August bank holiday weekend (Sunday afternoon) and although it was quiet in town there were a few in here making plenty of noise so we ventured in. We got served quickly and the lady serving was very polite and friendly. We ordered a pint and a glass of wine and were quite shocked when it came to almost £12. More so because it was the third pub we had been in and everywhere else on the high street was between £7-9 for a similar order. We didn't stop for another drink.

Some of the drinking elite were congregated in there. They really know their stuff, a truly great boozer. Superb beer, wonderful decor. I'm having a very nice flashback reviewing this place. Phwoar, wish I was there now.

I am sure I have reviewed this historical pub before. It has great beers, a log fire, great music either from the jukebox or live, a great place to watch the rugby and above all great friendly staff. They don't serve food, although they have free food on special occasions, but you can bring your own food in and eat it by the cozy fire.

Lovely, friendly jewel of a pub....so much friendlier than the library we'd just tried to visit with no success and little help.
