Very nice, clean business hotel. Breakfast also very good

I came to Remscheid for a wedding and although the Ascot Hotel is a nice hotel in itself (clean, nice rooms, good breakfast choice.) I found the customer service disappointing. On the day I checked in I was told there was no in-house restaurant so if I wanted something to eat they “couldn’t help”. Then on Sunday morning I asked if I could book a taxi and I got a blunt “no” in response. When I asked why, the lady in reception said “oh there are no taxis around today” then when I asked if I could get an Uber they said, “no, there is no Uber out here.” I found the staff to be very unhelpful and they were very clear that it was my problem and not for them to resolve. Later that evening I thought I would order some wine and snacks from the bar menu but they had shut so I had to get a pizza delivery to the hotel. Then when I got up the following morning at 9:15 am they said breakfast was over (which I thought was rather early to finish) and then they said, “okay go sit and just take what you want”. Which, again, felt rude and unhelpful. Finally, I asked if they did currency exchange as they said they did in their hotel handbook but I was told, bluntly, by the reception team that I would have to go to a bank. No helpful suggestions, no advice on where I could find a bank or currency exchange, just clear communication that it wasn’t their problem and I needed to resolve it by myself. All in all, I felt that for a 4 star hotel there should have been a higher level of service and a desire to help customers more. Especially when they are prepared to pay it.

Well deserved 4 stars for this hidden gem. I’m not sure when they did a full makeover but everything looks really crisp. Beds are perfect, rooms are nice for both work and leisure visits. Also breakfast is really good with a rich assortment of foods and freshly pressed oranges. I will try the bar later this week.

Very professional service, interior much nicer than you would think. Decent breakfast buffet with mandatory use of mask. Free ample parking. I would stay again.

Free breakfast and wifi. Free soda cans in room. Has 3 floors and an elevator. Plenty of parking. Plenty of TV, clean rooms. Modern furniture. Would stay again.

I am going to stay in this hotel soon. But they held the reservation amount from now even though The reservation was mentioned as "pay later at the proprty" very strange action by them.

2 AM in the morning the staff woke us up to ask how we enter the room.. what a service

Stayed here on a business trip. For business purposes it was fine. It is not near downtown so you will need to drive or take taxis to most places. Rooms were clean and fairly large for European standards but a bit basic. Large tvs but only one channel in English and they have locked the settings so you can’t enable subtitles which was frustrating. However the hallway floors are not carpeted so they transmit a fair amount of noise through the room doors. Staff were polite and helpful although there is no evening service so you will have to call a number for help if you arrive in the evening. No lunch or dinner service but there are a couple of good restaurants in easy walking distance. Breakfast is a buffet which is excellent. Lots of variety, fresh food, and a fresh squeezed orange juice machine. Much better selection than most hotels I have stayed in in Germany. Value will depend on what you pay for your room when you book. I found it quite reasonably priced. And if you want to tour the Cologne area, Remscheid is only 1h15m away by train and you will find hotel prices can be 1/3 of the cost of staying in Cologne itself.
