Nice national park to go sightseeing with your family. Don’t forget you cap 🧢 from the sun and a bottle of water as there is only one cafe near a castle and as usual no credit card, just cash 😟 Plan at least 2 hours. Be aware it’s hot 🥵 but worth going.

Nice park, well-preserved, easy to navigate, shows many layers of Albanian history. Worth visiting overall. Entrance fee - 1000 lek per person, parking available, the road is good.

No organized tour or guide needed if you like to read the signs and are happy to take a public bus there. It takes around 3 hours if you read most signs and go through the museum that is included in the entrance fee. You can choose which path you’d like to follow and it’s really beautiful. Bring something against the mosquitos. While it’s fairly covered by trees, sun block is still recommended. Bring food and drinks since the cafe is at the end of the circuit and other than that there is just the hotel in front of the entrance. Would be a full 5 stars if they had a bit more infrastructure for sitting down; a barrier free access (wheelchairs can’t access, additional signs for blind people, etc) and if signs were available in more languages. Take the bus back from in front of the Hotel / Bar there.

Awesome place! We went at about 10am to avoid the heat and also meant we were there without the crowds that appeared as we were leaving at about 12:30. Took us about an hour and a half to walk through the whole place, useful paper guide in English as well. Highly recommend making the journey out!

A place to visit if you are touring Albania. . Easy access, pleasant shade. Unlike the majority of archeological sites it can be visited even during the hottest hours in summer since the paths inside the area are almost completely covered by trees!

Even after visiting many ancient sites in Turkey, Greece, Italy, and many other countries, this one is unique in its own way. It's beautiful hiking back through the forest, and it's small enough to be able to visit but large enough to not get bored.

it offers a nice stroll through the history of this place. We arrived shortly after 9 (opening time), was not too busy, even parked in the shade (free parking). Bring cash for the tickets, but you can use the cards for the refreshments in the bar. Bring a bottle of water, it gets hot though most of the walking pathway is in the shade.

Stunning archaeological site with various different points of interest from various different points of history. Greek, Roman, Byzantine, and Venetian. This is a must when in Albania. The down point is it isn't very well signposted, so I would recommend trying to book a guided tour. The real star of this place is the location. It's a lagoon meeting the sea through a narrow channel at the site, with the various colours of the water in different points backed by the mountains in the background. 5 stars alone for the site. But the natural beauty is phenomenal. Simply wow.

The best site to visit in Albania. It combines nature, hiking, picnic and historical interest. The museum is excellent as it presents information well. Toilets at cafe near the museum. Docking one point as the famous mosaic floor was totally covered and the cafe could have more items. The restaurant just outside the site, near the bus stop is very good though.

A breathtakingly stunning place. Beautiful azure sea, lush landscape, historical ruins from the Hellenic, Roman and Medieval periods. I only wish I could have spent more time exploring here. I'd recommend getting a boat trip to the castle, it was very special to see and enjoy the view on the way. If you're anywhere near this you have to visit to experience its beauty and tranquility. I'd recommend spending a whole day here to fully enjoy in a relaxing manner.

Amazing park with lots to see. There’s also locals with souvenir stands with hand crafted original items. There’s also a tiny museum with archeological finds and to top it all off there’s beautiful scenery to admire from the top of the old castle. Entrance costs about 10 euros (1000 lek).

The visit to Butrint National Archaeological Park truly stands out as a remarkable experience. Exploring this historical site offers a captivating journey back in time, allowing you to witness an array of ancient buildings and constructions that date back thousands of years. While the remains may not always be fully intact, they provide a fascinating glimpse into the lives of those who inhabited this area in ancient times. To truly appreciate Butrint, one must be prepared to engage their imagination and piece together the rich history from the fragments that remain. What makes Butrint even more compelling is the tapestry of civilizations that have called this place home over the centuries. From the Romans and Byzantines to the Ottomans, the layers of history are palpable as you wander through this archaeological wonderland. It's a testament to the enduring significance of this site throughout the ages. In terms of admission, the prices are reasonable, with a standard fee of 1,000 Lek (equivalent to 10 euros) per person. If you're traveling with a group of 12 or more people, you can enjoy a discounted rate of 800 Lek per person. One of the park's standout features is its natural surroundings. The abundance of trees provides ample shade, making it a comfortable destination even on sunny days. This harmonious blend of history and nature creates a truly unique and awe-inspiring atmosphere that sets Butrint apart. In conclusion, a visit to Butrint National Archaeological Park is a must for history enthusiasts and nature lovers alike. It offers a window into the past, allowing you to traverse the footsteps of ancient civilizations amidst the tranquility of nature. While you may need to engage your imagination to fill in the historical gaps, the experience is undeniably amazing and well worth the visit.

A chance to wander ancient ruins, almost by ourselves. We visited on October 1st from 5-630pm. Outside of peak tourist season and during golden hour, this spot was perfect though we forgot to bring bug spray and the mosquitoes had their way with us. It’s a beautiful and historic place that you can explore at your own pace. Fun to imagine the large city that existed for hundreds of years here.

Amazing park filled with ruins and great views. If you drive yourself make sure to go early just around the time the park opens, if you get there around 11 then you will have a lot of tourist groups walking around. Parking is free in the lot across from the parks entrance. You need about two full hours to make it around the whole park. Make sure to wear shoes. There are spots where there is no walkways and you’ll be going uphill on slippery rocks. We brought a drone with us to take some nice aerial photos and videos. The guy at the front said it was okay to use in the park but then inside the park security said we were not allowed to fly it. So, make sure to not bring a drone with you. When you make it to the top you will find the castle and a small cafe with drinks and coffee. From there you will have some amazing panoramic views. As we were leaving there was about 6 tour buses parked in the parking lot. So make sure to go early.

Amazing place. It is a fascinating must-visit site with a rich history. The ruins are well-preserved and offer a glimpse into the ancient history of the area. Visitors can explore the ruins and learn about the Greek and Roman civilizations that once called the area home. The site is quite large, so it's best to set aside a few hours to explore it fully.

100% recommend, so cool. Worth the ticket money, this place would cost so much more in other European countries. Learn about the history and see really awesome ruins. Good walk (2h?) but not hard. Super cool. So many little turtles in the water by the theatre and in some other locations ❤️

(Translated by Google) If you are a lover of history and ruins, this is the place for you. From Saranda you can get there by bus for 100 lek per person. A passing car cost us 900 leks, but that's how you agree. Entrance to the park is 600 leks, for children - 300 leks. Although it is hot in August, there is a lot of shade in the park. To be honest - not impressed, expected more. Yes, nature is beautiful, but it is like this everywhere. Not very well maintained, some ruins have dirty stagnant water where turtles live. One cafe for the whole territory with rather high prices. As a result, if you have extra time and money, you can go.

Interesting place if you are interested in history. Probably better to come in low season because it is very hot to walk even though there is lots of shadows. You can buy some souvenirs inside. We could not find any place to buy water and the museum was closed. The toilet was working.

Interesting place to visit, and access to the site is pretty unrestricted allowing you to explore as much as you want. Even if you aren’t interested in archaeology the views are worth the entrance fee (1000 lek) You can get a bus here from Ksamil (100 lek) or Sarande (150 lek). This runs hourly, leaving at xx:30 from both Sarande and Butrint.

Fantastic place to visit. Ancient and early medieval buildings - amphitheatre, ruins of great cathedral, defense walls, castle surrounded by incredibly beautiful nature - lake, mountains, rare trees. Overall tour takes about 2 - 3 hours, including visit in museum, where you can see ancient sculptures, medieval bowls and plates, prehistoric stone tools. Entrance cost: 1000 leke per adult person, 500 per kid.

If you're thinking about joining a day trip to Butrint: Do it! It's so worth it. Such a nice ancient place and even if you're not into history it's worth a visit - the landscape is amazing, especially the view over the lake.

Its nice and ok, the entrance is 1000Lek/person in to the old town but, I don't know... For me the only worth think is the hotel Livia maybe. Everything other is also worth to see but not really satisfied. If you in Ksamil you can walk to Butrin but to come back take the bus. The bus is 100Lek / person and is driving from 8:30 every 1h. Enjoy.

Really cool! Definitely worth doing if you are in the area. If you are travelling here, often by taxi, you may be told it 'only takes an hour'. However we were easily 2 hours. There's lots to see, and some nice cafes and even an art gallery. It's all one site, when we went it cost 1000 lek per person. It is fairly busy, but not unpleasantly so.

Very beautiful place to visit, the viator tour guide was extremely knowledgeable and shows you around, there are toilets at the start and top part of the trail. There are many ruins and beautiful scenery. There is a fair sized car park at the start of the trail which is opposite a lovely restaurant which provided lunch for our tour. The trails are not suitable for wheelchair users or those with impaired abilities.

Great place to visit and learn about history and coexistence. Well preserved! Restrooms were well kept and clean. The only two things, in my opinion, that need to improve are the upgarde all signs to include more information and langauges. Also, the self-service for the prices that are charging needs to maintain the cleanliness of the place well. For the amount of what they they charge, this should be the minimal improvement.

Beautiful, one of a kind time capsule of 4 distinct eras expertly excavated and preserved. Clear archeological evidence of occupation by the Greeks, Romans, Byzantines and Renaissance Italians, one on top of the other. Bring some bug repellent because it is unfortunately built upon swampland, which may be why it was never vigorously defended. I cannot recommend this site highly enough. Spotty cell phone reception, but you will have plenty of time to post your pictures and yammer to your friends about how sweet it was later.

The archaeological site is an ancient settlement of BUTRINT. There you can see the ancient theater, the early Christian basilica, the baptistery, the ruins of the Roman bath and the Venetian castle. The park borders Greece and the Ionian Sea in 1992. has been inscribed on the UNESCO list. The park is open from 9am to 8pm, you can spend the whole day there, but the tour route is estimated at around 1.5 -2 hours. The route runs along alleys among old green trees, such as laurel (bay leaves). The trees give a nice shade and we do not walk in the sun. Admission to the park is about 5 euros. but it's worth visiting this interesting place. I recommend it! A place full of history where you can find all big empires amprents in the buildings walls and architecture. Very authentic and impressive. A must see place on the Mediterranean coast. The place it is rebuild with minimum impact on ruins. Also you can find a very nice museum inside of the fort. You will get cold when you see how nature works over the time and also how advanced were the people on the stars and sky interpretation.

I really enjoyed this. Provides an in depth history of Albania over the centuries. Takes about 2 hours to do the full tour at a decent pace, stopping to see things and learn about the history. It's a lot of walking - steep climbs and stairs, mostly flagstone and rocks. Not accessible to those with disabilities from what I could see.

A day trip to Albania from Corfu and a visit to this unique World Heritage site. A must see, if you are on a holiday to Corfu. Steeped in history and the guides know all the detail and bring it to life. More and more being uncovered, all the time. Recommended.

Very nice place to go, easy to get to on the main busses and could spend an entire day wandering around. Lots of photos to take and lots of little boards to explain.

Being one of few UNESCO sites in Albania, Butrinti is definitely worth visiting. It is a nice place situated all in the shadows of trees so you can also go there during a hot summer day. The site itself is quite big but still you can see it all within an hour, two hours tops. If you go there by bus from Sarande, be careful, the timetable which hangs on the bus stops is not really accurate as the last bus from Butrinti goes 7:30pm. The timetable on the bus stop says the last one goes at 9:30pm, so be careful and when in doubts, always as locals, they know better.

Absolutely worth to visit this place. Very unique and historical city with a lots of interesting facts. The forum looks very impressive and big. The place was exist from the Roman empire. Through many years the place was slightly changed. Unfortunately you cannot see a mosaic because it's covered in order to save and present for future. You have to check when they will uncover for visitors, it will happen on some special days. Museum absolutely spectacular, we spent there more than an hour reading even though we are not a history lovers.

What Butrint offers today is a remarkable journey through the ages of history, which dates back to 8th century B.C. Great place to visit with kids, wonderful location, great view from above, beautiful and rare species of trees, an important history lesson for children and adults.

(Translated by Google) The current archaeological site is a repository of ruins representing every period of the development of the city. Inhabited since prehistoric times, Butrint was the site of a Greek colony, a Roman city and a bishopric. After a period of prosperity under the Byzantine administration, then a short occupation by the Venetians, the city was abandoned in the late Middle Ages after the formation of swamps in the area. Butrint National Park is open all year round from 8:00 am until sunset. The museum is open from 9.00 to 16.00. Beautiful archaeological park with settlements from the times of ancient Greece, then of Rome, Venice and the Turks. The park is very well maintained with an easy to follow itinerary. Unfortunately, the mosaic of the basilica, which is certainly one of the most interesting archaeological finds of the entire complex, is almost always covered with sand to avoid wear. The site is absolutely worth the visit also for the beautiful surrounding landscape.

We visited on a hot July day. Most of the archeological places of interest are surrounded by trees, therefore it is a pleasant visit even on a hot day. Quite a few places require to go uphill using pre-marked route or stairs, however it may be challenging for a less-able persons. The ancient buildings are all in pieces however you can have a good understanding of how it was once a thriving Greek and Roman merchant town. We would recommend putting better descriptions of some of the individual pieces of exposition and realigning main maps and tourist handouts, as these two had completely different numbering of the artifacts. On a positive though is the availability of the handouts in many languages. Definitely worth a visit if you're holidaying in Ksamil or Saranda, with 1000 leke charges per each visiting adult.

I love the sense of adventure that comes with Butrint Archaeological Park. You arrive and go on a track around the park by yourself or in prearranged tour. We spent around 3.5 hours there and enjoyed seeing it was a working park, new dig sites opening up and others being worked while we visited. There’s an extraordinary amount of history and the free map was worth every cent. We also took a photo of the large sign at the entry as a number of items were on there but not on the printed version. But, parking was an issue and the cafe wasn’t open and we ran out of water. Overall it was excellent.

  • 5/5 David B. 10 months ago on Google
This place has a surprising history. The ruins are well-preserved. Much of the self-guided tour was in the shade, which is rare for an archeological site in my experience. Be sure to save some time for the quite good small museum at the end of the tour route.
