This is a wonderful, enjoyable yet pleasantly typical template street mall towards Keidai-ji temple, or, nationally well known by the name of the enshrined deity, Taishakuten. However the fact is that except some Buddhist alter article shops, spice stores and typical rice/kuzu dumpling stalls, there aren't much real ancient or traditional cultural heritage in the street though still walking, shopping and eating there on the way to and from paying a visit to the real historic temple are a great fun, always. As far as I'm concerned, Taishakuten got famous since the huge lasting success of the Japanese longest film series "Otoko-wa Tsurai-yo (lit. It's hard to be manly)" since 1960's and the popularity its main character, "Tora-san", who were born here in the story. The irreplaceable star actor in the film as Tora-san, Kiyoshi Atsumi, passed away in 1995, but many people are still coming in nostalgia of the film's 'universe'. There are Tora-san Museum, a rare surviving Edo River ferry rowing boat service and a preserved historical Japanese residence all nearby.

If you have the tokunai pass, make sure you drop by here. Not much known to tourist, this has one of a beautiful traditional market and several temples. Also try the having a traditional tea & snack experience for as low as 500yen in a european japanese tea house situated just across the museum.

This is the alley where you can stroll around and see many traditional sweet shops like dango. The temple in the area is quite beautiful with Japanese garden and pond. The wood carvings depicting the Lotus Sutra is very beautiful.

The relaxing atmosphere is very comfortable. If you're tired, we recommend taking a break with coffee and dumplings.

It's my favorite place because it feels like I've traveled back in time to the Showa era. It's also a calming place for me, who grew up in a downtown area. Please note that the souvenir shops on the approach to the shrine usually close around 17:00.

As expected from Tora-san's town, Shibamata Taishakuten is a great place. I always look up and buy Kusa Dango!

I visited around 9 o'clock on a public holiday. There were not many people in some stores, probably because they had not yet opened and because it was raining. When I visited again after going elsewhere, I think it was around 11 o'clock, and there were a few more people there, but overall it seemed like there were fewer people.

(Translated by Google) Tora-san's hometown. Shibamata. It's a famous place that doesn't need explanation anymore. I wanted to go there once, so I changed to the Joban Line and Keisei Line. The place where the old approach remains like this is very rare in Tokyo and all over the country. I want you to keep your current appearance forever. (Translated by Google) I've lived in Tokyo for 6 years and haven't been there. Only Japanese people know Tora-san, and even those Japanese people only know people of a certain age group. So, I think it's one of the few tourist decline areas in Japan that has nothing to do with Corona. Moreover, I can't see the feeling of trying to do something with a sense of crisis. I'm so sorry.

(Translated by Google) Tora-san is Shibamata, and Shibamata is Tora-san. I haven't seen Tora-san, so I don't really know, but it was a place with a certain atmosphere. There are two bronze statues in front of the station, and several people said that the female statue "doesn't look like her" and "who is this?" Dumplings and senbei are sold at various shops, and I don't really know which one is the best, but I got the dango at a shop that seemed easy to enter. The price is reasonable, but it's a tourist spot. I had warabimochi and coffee at a newly opened warabimochi shop, and this was the most delicious.
