It's one of the touristic landmarks in Aden, it defines the insistence and bravery of the people at that time. This Castle has served as an impregnable Wall against the invaders. The way towards the castle is about 7 minutes walk as a Maximum for a young person, it's a little bit steep so it's better to wear a boot; but it's OK if you wearing a high heels shoes. You will have to pay ( 100 YER = 0.46 $ ) / person as an entrance fee. When you walk up, you can enjoy the view of the Indian Ocean along the horizon and in the other side you can see the whole city of Crater district, it's a magnificent view and marvelous. But as usual; there is no care from the Government for such Historic locations, so you will find borders of the castle have fallen. You will find some old Canon with its head down, and there is so many writing on the walls. If you plan to sit up there for a while, make sure to bring cold water with you because there is no shops or street seller in this place, and as an additional energizer and rest, you can get some juice and biscuits to enjoy your stay. If you have a family try to come at the sunset time or before, because at this time the sun become softer and the weather gets cooler.

(Translated by Google) Sirah Castle is a military site in Aden, Yemen. The castle was built in the eleventh century AD and is currently used by the Yemeni army.[1] The castle is located on Sirah Island, a long volcanic rocky island located near the port of Aden. There were few archaeological studies conducted in the area. One theory says that the castle was built in the year 1173 by the Turkish ruler of Aden, Prince Othman Al-Zangabili Al-Tikriti.[2] The fortress was established during subsequent attacks against Aden by the Portuguese and Turks, especially in 1517. Although the old port began to subside and the main trading center eventually moved to the other side of the Aden Peninsula, the British continued to develop the castle after their arrival in 1839. One of the most prominent historical castles and fortresses of the ancient city of Aden. The castle played a defensive role in the life of the city, through which defensive fortifications were formed in the mountain. Many attacks and invasions that sought to control the city were repelled until it became a symbol of steadfastness in the face of the attacks of invaders and rapists and control of the port, the last of which was a battle The response made by the residents of Aden to defend the city with their modest weapons in the face of the British occupation on January 19, 1839 AD (Original)

Sira Fortress/Castle (قلعة صيرة) is a military site in Aden, Yemen. The original fortress dates to the 11th century, and is still in use today by the Yemeni military.[1] The fort is located on Sira Island, a rocky and tall volcanic outcropping which dominates the old harbor of Aden. Although it is referred to as a castle quite often, it is less of a castle and more of a fortification. Much of the fort's history is unknown, especially since there have been few archaeological studies done of the area. One theory is that construction was initiated around the year 1173 by a Turkish ruler of Aden named Prince Othman Al-Zangabili Al-Takriti.[2] The fortress was proven during subsequent attacks against Aden by the Portuguese and especially the Turks in 1517. Although the ancient harbor began to silt up and the primary commercial center eventually moved to the other side of the Aden Peninsula, the British continued to develop and garrison the fortress after their arrival in 1839. It is about a 15 minute walk up the stairs and can be considered a bit steep. It is one of the most common tourist attractions in the city of Aden. [2]

Seerah Castle is considered one of the most important symbols and historical points of the city of Aden. From this castle, the locals resisted the British occupation ships led by Captain Haines on the first day of the invasion.

Historical place with very incredible view over Aden city, needs more attention though. The fortress walls are completely covered with stupid writings from ignorant people which lower the historical value of the fortress, yet with more attention the place would be incredible . Definitely recommend visiting.
