The fish and chips were amazing. Unfortunately our waiter was new. Very inexperienced. Wrong order came, waited a long time for drinks. Second drinks were not offered. The manager was very good and compensated us for the errors. The place was beautiful. I highly recommend it and will return next time in PEI.

Appetizers were great, the baked oysters especially. Would recommend. The sangria was a good price for the size. Disappointed in the meals. The beef was low quality and kinda tasted like wild meat. The lobster role came on a hot dog bun!!! Tasted very processed. Do not recommend. Sat down at 8pm (reservation). We were going to order desert but was advised the kitchen closed at 9pm..... oddly, a table was seated after 9pm and still received food...???

For the price I was expecting a bit more. Not to say the food was terrible but not quite worth the price tag. We between the two of us we ordered 4 dishes all them were average. Just my opinion on 3 of the 4 dishes, they were trying too hard to make it fusion. The 4 dish was oysters priced well with they after 8, 10 for 20 deal. Really enjoyed that.

Prior to moving to PEI, I tried the Merchantman (Patio) and had an underwhelming experience, poor service and poor presentation of my meal. Fast forward to last week when our family came to visit and they made a reservation, which worried me 😬, but thankfully my concerns were completely unfounded. We sat in the restaurant, the service was okay, but the food was excellent, especially the “Island Seafood Boil”, our server advised the portion was large and suggested it was a meal for two! Thank goodness we took heed of his suggestion, it was huge and definitely a meal for 2, the scallops were cooked perfectly and lots of them, as were the mussels, clams, shrimp and snow crab and lobster. I now know where we can go for that special occasion and have a wonderful seafood feast, that we love so much. I know a lot of people are are very critical of establishments and if they have one bad experience they won’t return, if we had subscribed to that philosophy, it would have been our loss. Thanks Merchantman for improving your game! 😀

Had a great night here. A beautiful experience sitting at the bar with the fantastic bar service personnel. Steven and Tamera (sorry about the spelling) were absolutely fantastic for the night. Tamera kept us absolutely entertained with her oyster shucking and oyster experience. The food was delicious and we would recommend to anyone. Make reservations though for dinner, or you may have to wait.

Merchantman - Fresh SeaFood, Great restaurant for fresh seafood. We had a wonderful dinner time. The food was super delicious. The lobster is a must try. The service is so good, the environment is wonderful and well maintained. The staffs are friendly and make the order perfect as requested. Had a great seafood dinner.

Colour me impressed! The food and service were excellent, but it was the apple crisp that really made the evening special - it was spectacular! Of note, this pints here are a proper 20 fl oz and extremely well priced. That being said, just coming for drinks would mean missing out on some really terrific food!

We came to PEI for the food (and I guess our friends' wedding). Had our first dose of PEI oysters at Merchantman, and they were fresh and delicious. Started off our brunch with their Caesar, complete with an oyster on top. The special of the day was a fried scallop po boy, which did some out more flavourful than the crab toast that my girlfriend had. The spinach, and chef salads were also good.

We called ahead to see what oysters they have on the raw bar and liked the selection so decided to go. However when we were seated and asked again, turns out the board was wrong and didn't have the kind we like. The selection was okay, just not what we were expecting. Seafood pasta was bland but just needed more seasoning, the seafood itself was nice. Fish burger was tasty, and we liked the fennel coleslaw.

First - kudos to Tamira. Tamira was funny, engaging, helpful and entertaining! The top notch service made the whole experience wonderful. The atmosphere warm and welcoming. The calamari, fish cakes and the fish and chips were wonderful. The later being very generous. There is a nice selection of on tap and local beers. If you find yourself in downtown Charlottetown, then take a break and treat yourself.

Soooo yummy. 10/10 food and experience. Got the shucking Caesar (comes w an oyster), chowder (has mussels!), and 10 for $20 special raw oysters (so fresh). And wine, v good. Service was a bit slow and the music playlist was very out of date. Only downsides.

Food was delicious, seafood was fresh as expected. The spicy margarita was enjoyable as well. Definitely recommend the summer salad as a side versus the typical fires.

Visiting from Ontario second time eating at this amazing Restaurant Service was exceptional second time around as well. I don't normally complain about a restaurant. But I believe these reviews are not the best for this place. The lobster option only served as a cold dish, which to me in P.E.I should be unacceptable as it is a local cuisine. The coleslaw that came with the lobster tasted as though it was from a mixed bag, and they just added Mayonnaise to it. It was missing salt pepper and the apple cider vinegar that normally goes in a traditional slaw. The potatoes were warm and tasty, but with all the mayo and green onions, it took away from the famous red skin PEI grown potatoes. The fish and chips (haddock) again was poorly seasoned batter. Although they came out nice and hot, the fries were layered underneath and became soggy. Overall, our experience was not the best. I do not recommend coming to this restaurant. There are better options out there.

Harlee was our server and what a friendly professional she is. Really helps to make the customer feel comfortable when the server is upbeat and energetic. I know service is tiring and often overwhelming so kudos for her positive attitude and energy. We ordered Spinach salad $16 Seafood cakes $18 Fish n chips. 2 pc $19 Fish n chips 1 pc . $14 Salad was fresh, perfectly seasoned and plenty of ingredients 5/5 Seafood cakes, We’re very good, different than a crab cake especially with the curry spices. A bit of a kick to it, cooked right. 4/5 Fish n chips I was a bit apprehensive about fish n chips here because what I have had lately has been less than ok. But I am glad my fears were put to rest. The fish was perfectly seasoned and the ale batter was crispy and not greasy. It really is a great choice for fish, the chips were made fresh, seasoned right, the tartar is real good and compliments the fish so well. 5/5 Over all the food was spot on, the atmosphere is very pleasant, the restaurant looks good, seating comfortable. The only thing I would suggest that management tend to is the amount of dust we see on the fixtures. Blinds. And easy fix but still something that can take the restaurant from a solid four to an exceptional five. A good experience, very happy I reserved a table, no t necessarily needed but I just wanted to make sure I wasn’t going to have to settle for some more questionable food on the go. I would also suggest having a clear entrance sign so people know which door is the door. It’s difficult to tell because the menu and name are furhest from where the entrance is . It’s not a serious thing. It’s just a sensible thing.

Great place! Knowledgeable server and the food was amazing! Gave them a 4 only because I asked for removal of a vegetable from my salad and it was requested but the kitchen didn’t comply. But the dressing was amazing!! Try the calamari. It was fantastic.

Awesome food, we enjoy every meal here. We want to find baked oyster, which is awesome, it's tasty. And the lobster roll and lobster are all fresh and tasty, the seafood chowder is awesome, love this place, would recommend and visit again next time

Absolutely delicious food, the server was attentive, and I love the atmosphere. We can hardly wait to go back when we finish with our Island Walk.

Pretty good food, unenthusiastic service and a bit expensive! We had the mussels starter to share first, these were delicious! I loved the addition of fennel and the broth was amazing (I drank it like a soup in the end). However I felt the portion was small for the $17 price in-comparison to other places I’ve been to in PEI and NS, also the mussels themselves were quite small and a bit over cooked. I had the buttermilk fish sandwich with fries for my mains, the fish tasted amazing however there was almost none of it! I ended up having a lettuce and tomato sandwich with a couple of bites of delicious fish in the Center! My boyfriend had the 6 oz steak and rice, the steak was amazing: perfectly seasoned, really flavourful and juicy! However the rice was very plain and I feel for the price they could have added a bit of lemon and olive oil to “dress it up” a bit! Our server was fairly unenthusiastic and even forgot to give us cutlery at the beginning, but I do understand that it was late in the evening (around 8:30) and he seemed to have a lot of tables to manage so I can understand being tired and not being at 100% all the time.

What a fantastic restaurant! Very nice theme, and nice dining environment, classy yet friendly! Great dinner spot for a casual dining or celebration. Food were so delicious, a very pleasant surprise for us! We ordered the strip loin, and it was perfectly cooked to our preference! So tender, juicy just delicious! The seafood is so delicious, they didn't just flat boiled it, it has a great garlic and herb buttery flavor. The side salads were very fresh!

Loved all the foods!! It was one of the best restaurants I've ever been to. I'm not a seafood person, but their buttermilk fish sandwich and seafood chowder were marvelous. I would highly recommend this place to others :D

We went here last week after strolling adorable downtown Charlottetown. They couldn't get us in to the main restaurant so we walked around to their patio area 'Next Door'. There was live music and sunshine so we had high hopes however after sitting we were ignored for quite a while, others who came after us were served drinks before we were acknowledged at all. Once we were served, the gin fizz I ordered wasn't at all as described in the menu so I mentioned it and he offered something else. I got a glass of wine instead. After the long delay plus some other mishaps with delivery of our appetizers (raw oysters with underwhelming presentation and scallops with pork belly that weren't gluten free due to the maple whiskey glaze for some reason) we decided to end it there rather than risk further disappointment. There also weren't many gluten free options. We noticed later that they'd charged us for the higher priced gin fizz rather than the wine. A mistake or a grab for more money, either way poor form. Perhaps just bad luck that night but I wouldn't return or recommend.

oysters yum. chowder and lobster roll good too. the seafood mix is GREAT. eat some lobster and crab legs then get full on mussels. blackberry mule delicious, refilled too. heart of dt so great for digestion strolls

The food tasted good and the servings were quite large - especially the chowder and tacos! Fries were crispy ans not overly fried. Our servers were very friendly too. Try to get a reservation if possible. Our party of five was turned away one evening, so we returned the next night and it was about a 30 minute wait for a table without a reservation. Note to the host if you are willing to sit outside. We assumed she knew because we walked in without a reservation and asked for a table, but she seated a party before us on the patio even though we had been waiting for 30 minutes. She promptly got us a table after we explicitly told her we were fine with a table on the patio.

Delicious food and highly recommended. If you are a lover of seafood this is the place for you!!! French fries were home cut and not some bagged fries. The lobster roll had lots of lobster meat but the buttery bun was a tad salty. The staff and service were great. It is a shame that trying to find parking downtown is difficult.
