You don’t really expect a lot from a Wetherspoon pub but to wait over 30 minuets for a basic breakfast is a little long! In fairness the drinks came pretty sharp when ordering on the app. The place it’s self is large, airy and by the canal which makes it a nice and convenient spot. I would go back and do recommend it but make sure you have plenty of time.

We had our breakfast and a few beers at night whilst we were staying next door at Travelodge. The food was great and not too expensive. Great night with lovely atmosphere as it was student night. We will be visiting again soon once all the Xmas shopping madness has passed, York is getting uncomfortably busy at this time of year just too many visitors, sadly a victim of its own success.

As any other wetherspoons, fast service, great food, good price, but the coffe machine was broken for almost a week, which I think is not acceptable for a high demand of customers like this pub. And still selling the breakfast with coffe/tea included And not offering a replacement.

Can't beat Wetherspoons for value for money. This one has a nice outside seating area next to the river which added to the event. Ordered from the app and service was as expected. Recommended 👌

The Postern Gate is an excellent Wetherspoons pub. It has the usual Wetherspoons menu ordering food from the app is very easy, if you are ordering food pick an inside table the outside tables are not numbered. There was an excellent range of beers at the cheapest prices in York by far. The staff are very friendly and efficient. If you're just having a drink sitting outside by the river is a fantastic view. For a drink and a meal this is the best value place in York. Highly recommended.

Average wetherspoons food but the places is unkempt and grotty. Staff just talking and not attending the tables, the staff are miserable and would be better suited to Karen's dinner. Tables are dirty and plates are all over the place. Jacket potato with extra cheese and 5 bean chilli but came out with a spoon for a cold food that the cheese didn't even melt. The other food was amazing but you get what you paid for.

A very good weatherspoon, staff work hard to keep it nice, clean and tidy, friendly, service very good and quick, food was hot when arrived, would recommend if you are visiting York like ourselves.

Good place for breakfast if staying in nearby hotels. Ordering is easy via online or app. Portion sizes are good, service is quick and prices are reasonable too. For the size of the place could do with me self service machines as two are not enough. The menus on the table could also do with a proper clean or just being replaced as they are very icky.

We ordered from the app and it took 20 minutes to get our drink. The food came after 30 minutes, which can be excused, but 20 minutes to bring a beer from the fridge is ridiculous. Sat outside like a lemon waiting twiddling my thumbs. Don't use the app here.

Couldn't have been more disappointed with our experience. We had been to another Wetherspoons for breakfast a few weeks previous and it was amazing ( The White Horse in Brigg for reference). This couldn't have been further from that experience. There were no hot drinks available, because apparently no one in the staff could operate a kettle and the coffee machine Xmas broken. The toast came out burnt. That a chef put burnt toast on a plate showed how little they cared about the food that was being served. Bacon was burnt too. Whilst you don't expect gourmet from Wetherspoons, this was neither cheap nor cheerful. Will definitely not return and would certainly not recommend.

Popped in for drinks after our river cruise, despite being really busy we didn't have to wait long to be served. Great choice of drinks, lots of seating inside and outside on the terrace with lovely views of the river.

Staff usually very helpful and polite, even to the ruder customers. The renovations don't seem to be too extensive, but it's nice to have had a Reno. The recent menu update has unfortunately made the prices of small plates much higher, but the newly offered pizzas are not a bad substitute. Good deals available on certain days if you're in time.

Had to leave this place after 1 pint and no food due to the fact that that door between the pub and the hotel next door does not close correctly. Temperature 1c, fix this or you will lose more customers.

Very good vegan breakfast. Service a tad slow, but it was very busy. It's a nice pub atmosphere and has a lot of tables. Find a table and order at the bar, give the server the table number, so your order will get to your table.

Came on a Saturday morning- obviously one of the busiest days of the week and ordered a breakfast. Staff were lovely however it took 40 minutes for a sausage and egg muffin and 50 for a full English. When we asked how long our food would be as we had been waiting a while we got told that the kitchen was busy and was probably still waiting to get made (I completely understand as I work in hospitality). When the food came out it was cold and no waiters were around to go and ask. Can’t fault the place itself however I think more staff and better service is needed especially on a Saturday.

We arrived just after 8am on Saturday morning and ordered 2 breakfasts. Whilst the portions are reasonable, the food is clearly pre cooked and kept in a warmer. Despite being one of the first in the food was not hot! The bacon was cold and the rest tepid at best.

Friendly staff, food hot and served quickly, drinks not great but cheap. Cocktails tasted either far too sweet or like vinegar. Unless near the booth area near Woman's toilets it is crammed in.

Good vibes, good prices and great service! The beer is really cheap, different of all other pubs that we went before. Also a cool atmosfere. I'll come back, for sure!

Staff look like they hate their lives. Food is low quality with hairs in and bruised bananas with lukewarm porridge.

Been in all week and food and service has been great by one guy called Richard goes extra mile to make you feel welcome during the visit today Richard was not working and there has not been any hospitality from any of the staff and food was not to standards it was cold and over cooked based on this visit it would not be recommended but previous days would recommend

Well located near the castle park and town center. Friendly and efficient staff during our visit! The drinks are good value and can see many people ordering their meals too!

Nice big 'spoonz'.....friendly staff & quick service via the app despite being quite busy, you know what to expect and didn't disappoint!...

Nice food, and nice drinks, but food and drinks weren't that good, the Pepsi didn't have a full taste, it tasted quite watered down and the bread for the burger was quite dry. Both the food and drinks were still nice but can't give 5 stars as it wasn't quite as good as I was expecting.

Visited here quite a few times on a recent break in the area. Never had bad service. Staff always friendly and quick to clean tables/ remove glasses etc. Sometimes a little wait for drinks but staff were obviously working hard and better service than most places whilst it was extra busy during the heatwave. Good gluten free options available and easy to order on the app.

Came to York for few days and were early to check in at staycity so dropped luggage off and came here and first drink took a while but after that other lad served us lot quicker and food was nice too even got 1 garden pea with my ultimate 🍔 and the new boneless chicken basket was very nice,

Whilst we were staying at the Travelodge Central we used the Wetherspoon for breakfast as the hotel restaurant was closed for refit. I ordered the large breakfast which was disappointing. Two tiny pieces of bacon, a Small spoon of beans, toast which I thought was dry bread, must have just been flashed under the toaster. My mushroom was absent from the plate so spoke to a nice young lady who went a brought me the missing mushroom, yes a single mushroom 😂 At T time it was chucking it down with rain so stayed close to the hotel again. It was so busy had to wait for a table. It was worth the wait, my Tika masala was nice and the wife enjoyed her Hunters chicken. Would have been 3 star without the nice T.

I was not impressed at all - ‘it looks depressed’ were the first words out of my mouth when I received my food (See pictures). I often eat at Wetherspoons when out - cheap, cheerful and usually you can’t go wrong.. or so I thought. I ordered the BBQ Chicken Melt, one of my go-to orders at Wetherspoons usually tender chicken, nice flavours etc.. not today! Burnt to a crisp, a dribble of sauce and a mushroom that seems to have had all life zapped out of it. Further more, there was what seemed to have been a metal flake in a halloumi fry but by this point I had already given up on the meal. The only positive of this meal was the chips were fresh. Usually I’d raise my concerns with staff at their ‘check back’ and I would have this time, if anyone bothered to check. I would have understood if it was busy or a lot of people eating but there wasn’t. I wont be returning to this Wetherspoons.
