York dungeon is an amazing attraction. I had so much fun here. My word of warning would be that it’s not for the faint of heart, and they do like to pick people out of the group to play silly and embarrassing games with them! However, the attraction is priced very reasonably and is a great way to spend the Halloween season. It took about an hour to get around it in total, and you basically go from room to room where actors do spooky performances and talk about medieval York in a fun and engaging way. It can be a bit packed inside with other people, so I’d suggest taking a mask if you’re worried about Covid. It’s worth being aware that you can’t go back into the gift shop when you’ve left, so make sure you pick up anything you want there and then. Overall though it’s excellent. The actors are very engaged, and it’s genuinely scary. It seems to have improved since the last time I was there about five years ago, so it’s definitely worth a visit!

The history, setting and stories were good. They took us to the viking Era and the life back then was shown. If you have a fear factor, you will be thrilled and it becomes even more interesting. The staff there put on a really great show with great acting skills and makeup. They entertained us really well and their sense of humor is also spot on. The vfx pictures here were actually more fun than at other tourist places so be sure to pose creatively.

Another must-go-to place in York. It was our first experience, and we highly recommend everyone to visit. The sets and actors were incredible! Some parts were scary, whereas some parts were hilarious. Perfect for this spooky season. Also, you can get 2-4-1 via Northern app or National rail website. I highly recommend this amazing place to everyone! The staff were friendly and professional especially Liv!

Me and my friend had a phenomenal time at this dungeon, where our tour was preceded by taking pictures that cast us in ancient settings. The 10 rooms that the tour went through really drew us in, spanning 100s of years of the history of York epically! Clothing in different styles for the times was worn by the guides, who served as actors that brought the audience into their show at points, getting volunteers to play the roles of ancient characters on the go! The effects utilized were stunning, including fake blood when they pretended to behead someone and a carriage seemingly moving when avoiding an attack. Phones were not allowed for the tour as the sign made very clear, though I managed to capture some pics of the surrounding areas! The staff were highly welcoming and friendly, giving me directions to the toilets when I asked that have a humorous sign up!

Fun for all the family. Actors played there parts well and great audience participation. Groups are not too big so you get more out of the experience. Good value for money and learned some interesting things!

Great dungeon experience. We have experienced another one in Blackpool, which we felt was slightly better (although might be the novelty effect)!

Atmosphere: 5/5 Cast Members: 5/5 History: 5/5 Price: £ Overall: 5/5 First of all, I just want to give a shout-out to all the cast members who make this tour what it is. Absolutely stellar performances. Not too over the top and hilarious. Special kudos to the lady who was in the doctor’s chamber (2/7 - 4pm slot). Hilariously intimidating but still able to give me a full minute long staring match without breaking character. From the moment that you enter, you’re transported to ye olde England. Wooden and stone building like decoration, a mysterious figure taunting you with facts of the history of York. Each individual room was a different experience and very interactive. You walked through history, learned history and experienced history. They are accommodating for disabilities, medical conditions and give you prior warning. I’ve been to Edinburgh and London’s dungeon also, but think this is my favourite.

Excellent actors and scripts. The Judge and Witch were my favorite. Great organization with sending only a small group together through the scenes, so not overcrowded. The silly photos taken at the beginning and opportunity to buy them was a great feature and keepsake especiallysince no photography is allowed inside. It was an overall great experience and a must do if you are in York. Buy your tickets in advance online is a must. There was no wait or line because of the specific time selected on the ticket, which was great!

Extremely good fun! The actors do a brilliant job and perform with great gutsy humour and gusto! Brilliant atmosphere. Superb attraction. Would definitely go again and recommend it to anyone visiting York. Great for adults, couples and families with kids. Lots of history too, accurately told. 🙂🙂🙂

Decided to visit here for the first time and was not disappointed. Upon first entrance, the staff member on the reception, Till was brilliant, he was down-to-earth,And you could have a laugh and a joke. the tour began. I must say when I purchased the tickets, I didn't really read much about it as I didn't want to give myself Spoilers, so the whole experience was new to me and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The cast members were very enthusiastic and you could tell They enjoyed their job really worth a visit and would 100% recommend. Thank you for a wonderful day ..signed the traitor...

If you're visiting York, this is 100% a must do!! It's just plain fun. I went in thinking it would be cheesy and lame but it was hilarious, scary, and informative! The actors were seriously amazing. This place was honestly the highlight of my York visit! Don't forget to book your tickets!

I am lost for words, I had a brilliant experience in the York dungeon. The people playing their roles in each different dark room, acted so well. They were funny, engaging and really nice. All the rooms were dark and scary. They also take pictures through out the tour so at the very end you can pay to get them printed into a small booklet. I really really really enjoyed this and if anyone else is coming to York on holidays, I recommend you go visit it!

This place was so much fun. All the actors really make it worth the visit. Spent the whole visit trying not to get "chosen" but all part of the fun. Highly recommended especially if you can get the Kellogg's voucher for a free ticket.

Really did not know what to expect but was thrilled with it. Very well laid out, staff/actors were just brilliant. There was just enough in our group but any more would have taken away from the experience. I urge all to get booked in, it's a very fun way of passing an hour.

Excellent, although I didn't find it scary, it was really good fun. I literally got called out for everything which made it funnier. The staff and actors/actresses were brilliant and the moving floors improved the experience. Good value for money as it was a longer experience (about an hour and a half). Shame the photos were so expensive, we would have bought a single photo had it been a fiver or less but £20 on top of what we had already paid was too much. But would absolutely recommend!

We enjoyed our visit to York Dungeons the actors are fabulous and really make you laugh pulling my husband out 3 times to join in . Each room telling a different tale from Yorks history, my only negative is charging £12 for 1 photo is a little steep when you have just paid £19.95 per adult to get in ( which is worth it for the actors). York Dungeons is definitely worth a visit when in York

SO MUCH FUN! One hour experience filled with ghoulish tales and scares, along with plenty of humor. I was picked on but thoroughly enjoyed it, and also damaged my vocal cords screaming. Recommended.

Had a great time here, the actors made the experience fun, they really set the scene for each setting. The special effects were decent too. Didn't know what to expect at first but ended up really enjoying it. Highly recommend if you're visiting York.

Absolutely fantastic experience. Interactive and definitely a thrilling experience. I would just say be mindful if taking young ones who are afraid of the dark. But really good experience, well worth a visit and I'll definitely go back. Actors and exceptional, and staff were lovely and all had a good sense of humour. Takes about an hour and a half, plus a little extra to wait to go in when it's busy. Buy tickets in advance!

The atmosphere and actors in the York Dungeon were amazing! There was plenty of information along with jokes and some jump scares! Each section was fully immersive and there were a few surprises along the way! My children (ages 12 and 11) had fun but were a little scared in places. One improvement would be to have more seating available as some of the areas were fully standing which is difficult if you have mobility issues and in some parts it felt quite crowded with the amount of people in our group (but feel like I can't complain about that as they let us go in an earlier time slot last minute after we arrived early!!)

Fab, well priced & memorable experience suitable for all ages. Visited with my two teens and we all really enjoyed it. The actors and setup was fab, really well thought out, kept us guessing & really made the experience interesting, spooky & jumpy at times. Recommended!

Had a brilliant time with my young daughter at the York Dungeon. The acts were entertaining and varied from light and funny to full on terrifying (the witch in particular) The actors were fantastic and the rooms were well done out. The whole experience went on for slightly over an hour so it felt like we got a decent amount of entertainment for out money. It's pre booking only and they Don't accept cash. We just turned up and 'pre booked' there and then. I look forward to other dungeons in the near future!

A bloody good time. Its a fun experience all round. My wife and I visited there recently during our honeymoon and had a brilliant time. There's jump scares and comedy in equal measure. We went to the late show too which was even more fun. We were initially a little worried about accessibility but the team there were really helpful and we were able to get round the whole venue with the wheelchair using the starlings they have there. Highly recommended for all.

Well what can you say about this attraction apart from 'fantastically fiendish!'. I normally adorn my reviews with photos but, as requested on arrival, it is phobited to take photos, and to be honest it would spoil the whole experience if people added photos because you REALLY need to visit the York Dungeon blind so to speak,to enjoy all its majesty in full. It truly is an experience to enjoy (and to be scared by) but I won't say anymore on its contents if you haven't experienced it already, as it would spoil the story telling. Be prepared to have EVERY hair on your body stand on end as you pass through it though and you will exit having had a totally surreal experience. The actors are all fantastic, and with the settings you really feel you have been THERE and you won't forget it easily lol. 10/10 👍👍👍

This is a MUST to visit. Took my two teen Sons and we ALL loved it! It’s a fantastic experience taking you through the grim history of dark past times. The actors are excellent and play such a good part. A fantastic mixture of amusement, laughter and edge of seat scare/fright. Definitely recommend visiting.

I heard about them from my friend and decided to take my family with to visit York and Dungeons as well. Great experience, even so I am not big fan too be on the spot I was chosen to participate in one of the'activities' and it was fun for me. So yes definitely will recommend to go there and spend some fun time with friends and family.

A great experience, a must when you visit York! The staff were fantastic when in their roles, very interactive and rather humorous. If you suffer from Anxiety you can ask the lovely staff behind the desk for a sticker that illuminates in the dark which informs the actors not to target you! This is a great feature and I think more places should have this. Me and my partner loved this activity, it really made our stay in York. Thank you to all the staff.

As part of my weekend away in York, the first thing I wanted to do was visit the dungeons (again) I had visited back in 2019 and the experience still felt like it was my first time. 'Bloody' amazing! First off we got let in early which is always a fantastic bonus, staff were polite both at the entrance and in the gift shop The actors are fantastic and enjoy what they do My mum thought it was brilliant and couldn't stop laughing or... screaming at some parts. We decided to take home a magnet photo as this was probably the best we have looked at any attraction photo! And I got to swing an axe at my mum! This is probably my favorite dungeon entertainment experience that I have visited thus far. Now I will have to bring my boyfriend as an excuse to come again! - A very happy heathen 🪓

Absolutely fantastic experience at York Dungeons. Turned up on the day & got in straight away. The whole experience from the cast was brilliant, audience participation helped make it a really enjoyable time & I already know I'll be popping back when I'm next in York!

Visited with a group of Scouts. Some loved it, others not some much! The attraction staff were amazing, really helpful with the ones that wanted to leave partway through. Actors were amazing. Good to see some changes and new rooms. Only negative is the photos are really expensive, especially when we need to buy multiple photos to cover the entire group. Thank you guys. We will be back.

We visited today and had a great time. The staff were brilliant and the actors were ace! My 14yr old son really enjoyed, just scary enough to keep you on your toes and the historical facts were nice and gruesome! What made it more pleasurable was how interactive it was - I was selected to be tortured!!!! Then was sent to the dock in court. Would certainly recommend a visit and will be going again ourselves soon.

Me and my husband visited here yesterday 29/8/2023 it was fantastic from start to finish. We had a great time joining in with the actors and was genuinely spooked at some points through the tour . Some good adult humour along the way and interesting history fact too. A really great place to visit if you get the chance. Well worth it …

What an experience!!! We managed to get discounted tickets using @kids_pass (recommend getting this, only cost us £1 for the first month, can cancel at any time) so cost us £ 69.20 for the 4 of us (2 adults, 2 children) Was a bit of a wait to get in before it started, but oh wow, was definitely worth the wait. Super immersive. The actors did an amazing job and did not break character at all. Was thrilling, spooky and informative! Plenty of jump scares. Came out laughing! The actors can get pretty close but don’t ever touch you. I even got asked to pretend to be a viking called Hilda - was super fun. It was a little too scary for our 7 year old and she did get a little upset at one point. I would say, definitely for children 12+ unless your child is super brave. Even I got scared at some points, in a good way! Just goes to show how immersive it was! Even the toilets were spooky. The actors deserve a whole load of credit, performing the way they do, repeatedly and all day everyday, can’t be an easy job at all!! It is a little dark in there to add to the ambience so I would probably avoid it if you were claustrophobic at all. There were a couple people in the group that went in with us that wouldn’t stop talking at the beginning which kind of spoilt it a little - but unfortunately thats not something that can be controlled in any way. If you do go in a large group, please go with people who would enjoy it and are considerate to others who are there. It was my first time in any of the dungeon attractions so would love to try one in another city based off this experience. Not allowed to take any picture inside - so I took one of the outside 😁

Absolutely brilliant!!! Wasn't sure what to expect but it was such a great experience from start to finish. The actors were really talented and worked really hard to make it an educational and exciting visit! My 11 son loved it too.
