Located right next to the Church of St Donatus. This site holds a lot of history. It's the largest forum in Croatia (95m by 45m), commissioned by the first Roman Emperor Augustus, as evidenced by two inscriptions in stone from the 3rd century which were placed upon completion. It was the centre of the entire public life, the largest on the east coast. Its central, open section provided a magnificent appearance: three sides closed two-story portico with colonnades, opened to the upper part of the magnificent temple, dedicated to Jupiter, Juno and Minerva. Today only the original pavement and stairs remain, as well as two monumental columns one of which is still on its original site. It once served as pillory (pillar of shame) evidenced by chains from that period. After a violent earthquake in the 6th century, the buildings surrounding the forum were destroyed. The still standing elements and stones (then used to rebuild) were retrieved for various buildings.

Remains of the Roman central square in the center of Zadar are not very impressive. They consist of foundations of shop stalls and a few incomplete columns. The major temple that used to be located at the forum is virtually gone and the only thing that remains is the "column of shame." It is interesting to visit with a guide, but by yourself you will not be impressed. It is also very exposed so make sure you wear your sunscreen if you are touring it in the summer. Forum is free to enter but the churches and bell towers located at the forum have fees if you wish to visit them.

The town of Zadar is very quant and it's wonderful to spend a few hours walking around the town and taking in the sights. What I really liked about the forum is that it's not cordoned off and is a part of the town. So you can walk very close and imagine a different era. Unfortunately most of the forum was destroyed by an earth quake however a couple of columns still stand. There is one to which miscreants were tied to as a punishment. It's right next to St. Donatus

Not easy to find but therefore very quiet. This hidden gem in the middle of Zadar is almost unknown to anybody. Lots of history and the ancient stones are almost in pristine state and untouched. No tourists here and you will have many opportunities for taking pictures without obstruction by other visitors. Claims this for yourself before some else does.

Many professional reviewers do a much better job explaining the relevance of the forum. From a layman’s perspective, this place is pretty slick. The forum allows one to visualize what it was like 2-3k years ago. It had sort of a Pompeii feel, less ominous but was definitely able to immerse and take in the experience. Highly recommend get out early or after bad weather. This place gets busy and crowded fast. Also look at the cool reflection of the tower, shot it just after a rainstorm.

City center. An old, and somehow magical, sense on power. 4th century BC

Lots of bars in the area, there's usually live music on the main square.

The Roman foundations and Columns are very well displayed and are enjoyable to walk around. A guide can also show and explain where the temple, marketplace and walls used to be that made up the centre of the Roman town. I enjoyed imagining where everything used to be. There were also pieces of stone or tiles with designs on.

Truly beautiful, looks like a postcard from Zadar. Roman columns and remnants make the place absolutely unique. A must see in the center and it's literally impossible to miss it.

The place is nice during sunset. One of the attractions in Zadar old town, a building built during Roman time.

Simply amazing! As a lover of history, this place left me thoroughly impressed. The area is replete with shops and locales where you can purchase souvenirs. However, one aspect that did not sit well with me was seeing people sitting and resting on the monuments. It detracted slightly from the respect these historical treasures deserve. Very busy!

Located right next to the Church of St Donatus. The Roman forum of Zadar, or at least what is least of it is the largest one in the Adriatic. It was constructed under Emperor Augustus at the turn of the 1st century. After being bombed in the Second World War the space was cleared and by the 60s the forum began to take shape once more.

The Roman Forum is the most prominent place to visit and an important landmark in Zadar city. It is a place where you see the amalgamation of the old and new. Ruins from the roman era, many historical structures-churches, museums, modern cafes, souvenir shops etc. characterize the place. A must-visit, when in Zadar.

A public space, since the Ancient Roman time. It's an open air museum with many historical relics. You can sit on some of them. The place is popular among local and also tourists. It has many park benches and some part has shadows from the trees. Nice.

You can walk past the ancient stones. Take some pictures but I miss the story or something extra. Just visit it when you're walking past. Not too special you're used to travel.

The Roman ruins seem to be just haphazardly strewn about Zadar. It is great to be able to wander around amongst them.

It's a beautiful place, the central square! What's interesting is that these Roman columns were simply dug up on this very spot, cleaned and placed on the perfectly mowed lawn for all to admire! You can sit or stand on them and have your picture taken against the background of St. Donatus Church. One of the must-see places if you are in Zadar!
