Good room at decent price. Room is clean and sufficiently equipped with table, stools and a rack to put stuff on. Lacking hangers or spaces to hang clothes. Walls may be slightly thin for light sleepers as you can hear some traffic or movement in the hallway. Overall a wonderful stay here, close to the train stations as well as supermarket.

Hamburg a dream, a&o hostels a nightmare! Me and my friends travelled to Hamburg and were ensured that even though we did not fill the room , we would stay there privately, because we are underage. After a long day in Hamburg we got back to our hostel. In our room we realized that we were not alone ! A women was sleeping in our bed, of course we were frightened and felt unsafe because a stranger invaded our privacy unknowingly that we were not informed. Obviously someone had made a mistake so we went to the manager in order to solve our problem. But the manager was not willing to listen to our problem, did not recommend us another room neither gave us our money back. She even threatened us with security to throw us out. She was willing to let teenagers be without a safe room at night. This was an absolute unprofessional behaviour that nobody deserves to endure. We definitely want to warn everybody that is interested in booking a room. Absolutely do not recommend!

The rooms were good for a hostel. We had a double room, two nights and two different rooms . The bin in ( the second room) bathroom nearly fell off the wall and in our sheets had tiny little holes and there was a bit of pink glitter on the sheets as well. ( We never have any glitter with us) The breakfast was good but very busy. Had to get the chips for breakfast every morning at the reception and that took around 15 minutes because the reception was so busy. The service at the reception was exhausting. We wanted to use the community kitchen for dinner. You need a key for that. We needed to wait until midnight to use it. A girl at the reception promised us to call if the key was back but that never happend. When we when the third time to the reception , we got the keys . We went down to the kitchen and there was nothing more that a microwave, a stove and one frying pan. We went back to the reception and wanted to give the key back. The lady behind the desk gave us then a box with pots etc. but didn’t get the idea to tell us first. The next day we checked it and I forgot my watch in our room. The cleaner couldn’t help us becauseshe couldn’t speak English or German and the reception only help us after 45 minutes waiting and one key card that didn’t worked. If you want to have a good service don’t go there! They are to busy to help you in any way. And when they try it takes really long. I don’t know why they have the community kitchen on the homepage when you can’t really use it. There weren’t even plates in the cupboards … Now I’m exhausted and stressed out.

Super nice staff who helped with a booking mistake without applying extra fees, which was very appreciated! Nice rooms and everything else was fine - especially considering how affordable it is. Be prepared for considerably long waiting times and the reception. But great value for money.

My stay with my friends in a&o hostel Hamburg city was pleasant and peaceful. I was really satisfied with the hygiene of the room. And very much appreciate the service by staff. I would like to mention here Ashik who helped us with his service during our check-in and also assisted us with games. Really appreciate his help during our check-in process. I would also like to mention the variety of breakfast buffet and the quantity of food. It was quite good stay for me and my friends

It’s a very nice hostel, the location is near the inner city and everything is comfy to get to (and even if you’re only on foot), and the rooms are very clean, have a sleek design, and the mattresses are very comfortable for the price that you pay. The Staff is very nice and most of them speak excellent English which really helps with communications. (Some rooms are more clean than others that’s why only 4 stars). I’d definitely book again sometime when I decide that I want to stay in Hamburg again. 👍

I queued for 50 minutes to check in. Staff worked at a snail's pace with no sense or concern that people were waiting. No one appeared to be in charge and there was no attempt to speed up the process, made worse by unnecessary form filling. The reception area was like a zoo, with lots of young kids running around. The hostel is vast and far too big to create any sense of a welcoming atmosphere.

It's okey if you need a cheap and clean place to sleep bit nothing else. Lack of stuff at the reception causes long lines to check in/out. Poorly communicated covid requirements on the website (lack of information). There was a sock on our smoke detector probably from our previous guests??? Uncomfortable beds, and slow small and too few elevators.

Perfect location when you want to have a great stay, full of games , food facilities, bar , easy check-in and check-out. Usually at very reasonable rate. Wonderful morning breakfast 🥞 One more important thing, they have free locker rooms where you can keep your stuff and visit the city

I stayed in the a&o Hostel City Hamburg for 2 weeks in a single room. It was disastrous. The a&o Hostel City Hamburg is sandwiched between two very busy roads and the room windows did not block any of the traffic noise. Ear plugs hardly helped. The heating hardly worked (November). The hallways smelt stale. The 2 coffee machines were out of service 90% of the time (and super dirty). The very young (English only speaking) staff lacked motivation & professionalism. The bar was often empty of serving staff and when there, some were very rude with attitude issues (no greetings/thank yous/…). Breakfast was always the same: very hard green bananas, rock hard apples and pears (probably the same basket served from the fridge every day -as no one could eat the fruit), bread buns, cornflake options, coffee, tea, sugar water, … The place is best geared to hosting school or youth groups (who were often running through the halls at night)… never again. Oh, the positive, my bed was comfortable!

The rates for a single/double private room are extremely high, compared to the quality of the room. Don't come here if you are expecting a good night's sleep. There is no air conditioning and no sound proof windows. The lighting is standard, nothing special. The only things reasonable are the Wi-Fi and the bar, but all and all I would suggest you book at the Premier Inn. Equal/lower prices, but the quality of the rooms... way higher.

At the beginning, the check-in was OK. Since I had reserved this hostel I read that it had parking lots because I was doing a car trip throughout all Germany. Ian, the guy at the front desk, said in a very poor English that the parking was just in the same street of the hotel. At the end of the day, it turned to be that the hostel only had 4 parking spots in total, and none of then was available. Ian was basically sending me to an open lot in front of the hostel, with no security at all and when I just complained, he just said "you can park it at any place in the street if you want". The service is very poor, even when I reserved a full room just for myself and my father. I only saw 3 people at the front desk, for a hostel with 500+ rooms and 99% occupation rate. The guests are between 18 and 21 years old in average. They are constantly making noises in the corridors (speedly running, screaming, being drunk, shouting doors every other 2 minutes, knocking doors like crazy people) from 7pm thru 3am in average, and this was like this all the nights I stayed in this hostel, and I had asked for a quiet room, I just can't imagine how the noisy rooms were like. Elevators are old and with no room inside them, and the young guests just enter there to smoke. The coffee machine at the lobby was broken, even when this is a vending machine. The hostel is located in a dark industrial zone, only domino's pizza is nearby. Worst experience ever at a hostel/hotel.

The room was good, Very comfortable, maybe the bathroom area should be cleaned a little more. The location is central, you can take the bus or train. Staff not very friendly but efficient.

It was a peaceful and relaxing stay at the hostel. The breakfast was worth the money. The staff were helpful and polite, especially Ashik, who gave us a lot of tips about public transport and the city's major tourist attractions.

Clean room, toilet and shower. Though this depend on the people in your dorm. Place was clean when I checked in but my room mates messed it up a bit with clothes hanging around, empty drink cans. Great view from sky garden. Good place to see the sunset Staff were friendly and helpful. There is also a kitchen here, but locked with a key. Deposit €20 to use the kitchen. Return the key to get your deposit back. There is also paid luggage locker at €4 for 24 hours for the small ones, and free luggage storage room.

My husband and I wanted to experience once more an accommodation at a hostel and we were more than happy with our choice. There was such a pleasant surprise when I was able to change the accommodation date due to a train cancellation. The staff was more than friendly, the room was large and clean.

If you are looking for a budget stay and gonna be the whole day out. It's just a perfect place to stay. For as low as 15 ( sometimes 11.5 or 13) euros you can get yourself a bed in a shared room. I found the rooms very clean. If you get your own towel and bedsheet you save the extra 3.5 (on time) euros.

the best price/quality ratio hostel I've ever stayed. Things are clean, well arranged, beautiful and peaceful. When it comes to price- the cheapest in hamburg.

I gave the hostel staff to correct themselves but I should share this. The room was so dusty and dirty when I checked in. Bad sheets was dirty and there were dirty towels all around the room. Napkins with match sticks, woman hair everywhere... I just took the photos and showed them to reservation desk then ask for cleaning. The staff said that they will sent someone for cleaning because it was obvious that no cleaning was made before my arrival. Now only cleaning made is that a duvet cover is taken without putting a new one and bath wc floors are mopped up. Dirty sheets and towels are still in. Should I clean the dirty things and garbage of other guests? If people don't like their job, they must easily quit or make the job I think. Well some doesn't do their job. Now I should go back to reservation from 8th floor and give dirty things because there is no number of it. Maybe get a mob to clean it myself 🙄 Then find anotber place before complete my 6 months reservation... [53 days edit: Staff in the front desk tries to be helpful but they are overwhelmed. Sometimes 1 person has to deal with bar and reservation at the same time with 20 guests. Housekeeping not surprisingly doesn't like their job. But more importantly they don't give a sht. I have waited one 5 days to get cleaning and talk about 1-2 hours with the reservation. They say they came but not actually. I wanted to use the vacuum cleaner by myself to make it better and a staff ask me to clean faster :) after 5 days of waiting them.. Then they just play with their mobile phones in the floor but I guess they are also generally exhausted. 3 out of 5 elevator doesn't work more than 3 weeks. I asked them once but administration just don't care I think. It takes literally 10 mins with a slower lift to go up and down. Also 8 people use it during a pandemic due to this carelessness. I had many problems of my reservation dates and payments... Bed sheets always come with hairs 😀 Broken washing machines and dryer... Location is nice but noisy. As a result, price comes with its price 👍 can be a nice choice for short term but there are lot to take care of. I add one more star especially for Hasan Abi ;) and others in reception except the guy with earrings pulls of "I'm the manager" card in the first problem... come on man]

Well, my staying at the hostel was pretty nice. But the only thing that I didn't like is that rooms are truly dusty and bad cleaned. The floor isn't washed unless you ask for it. And you will most likely have to wipe the dust by yourself. So, be aware of this.

Unfortunately no chance to give this place less than 1 star. The stay was a nightmare. Restaurant completely crowded, bathroom full with hair. And you probably have to sleep on the bed strings instead of a normal mattress Extremely loud to sleep because of the car noises. For 102€ per night you surely can find something better.

A really nice place where you can chill and relax after visiting the beautiful Hamburg. It’s a youth hostel with really nice and helpful staffs! The breakfast is a buffet and is delicious especially the pancakes! The room was clean. A lot of young peoples and it’s perfect for making new friends!

I paid €150 more because there was no 4-bed room available and then sat in a 4-bed room. none of the staff was interested and it was rather dismissed. The staff, especially the bartender, was super unfriendly and sometimes made the guests wait very long. The room was okay, to make matters worse, half of the bedding and towels were missing. Which I had to get from annoyed employees. that's much better, i was in rotterdam before and it was worlds apart.

Rooms: pretty comfortable for such a cheap price. Location: is just perfect, very central (5 Star). Service: Its actually just okay, but the reason i gave 5 star is because of the amazing service from one of their employee, his name was "Dzikri" who approach us soon after we just checked out. He answered all our questions as well as our complaints perfectly and politely, so yes 5 star.

Probably the worst experience of my life. I went there with 5 friends and stayed in a room with 6 beds. Each sheet was full of piss and extremely dirty. The bed weren't made, we received the sheets at the check-in and we got told to do the beds by ourselves. It's impossible to describe how dirty it was. It has been pretty much the worst hotel i have ever been to.

The rooms are clean and dust free. The washrooms are pristine as well. For the price it's just unbeatable. The staff are the best thing, especially Morrad ( I hope I got the name right) who was really helpful and is super friendly.

Great stay, rooms lived up to expectations or may even exceed expectations given the price. Bartender Rob is exceedingly rad, stoic, but solid personality. All other staff in my experience were proficient in multiple languages. Good stay. Would book again.

This Hamburg accommodation is a true delight. Its charming rooms and attentive staff, makes it an excellent choice for travelers. With modern amenities and easy access to the city’s highlights, it’s a wonderful place to stay in Hamburg

  • 1/5 Bob M. 11 months ago on Google
The staff at this hotel is so incredibly rude and not helpful. Also the check-in process is a big mess which causes a packed lobby, annoyed guests and super long waiting times. There are self-service machines but they are either broken or don’t have roomkeys inside. When you try to speak to the staff about this they just ignore you. Rooms are decent for a city trip with friends, but also given the location and the rude staff I would definitely not recommend this hotel to anyone.

During my 2 days trip in Hamburg, I've stayed there. Location of hostel is good. It's easy to access to the central see sights and close location of rails gives a good opportunity to travel in long distances. Condition of my room was good for its price. But service of hostel is terrible. Card for room door frequently become usable and every time required to go to the reception to fix it. Part of the elavtors are not working, and if you'll stay for the period more than a day, you have a chance to get new bed, cause your bed may be hold by other person, while you off the room.

As far as budget lodging goes, this one is definitely a good choice. The rooms are basic and look a little rustic at first sight, but they have everything you need. Each bed had a small light, usb-outlet and something to store small items while sleeping (glasses, phone etc). The room was clean and there was stowage for all our luggage. One star off for service. The staff was friendly but obviously overworked and stressed out. They categorically didn't put sheets on more than two beds per room. If you booked more you had to pick up additional sheets at the reception and put them on yourself. Additional towels (we had 2 in a room for 4) were delivered on the second day. I'm not big on public spaces at hotels but the lobby and bar looked nice enough and the rooftop terrace was nice and calm. You obviously don't get a high end experience here, it's a hostel after all. But if you're traveling on a budget or prefer minimalist lodging, I can recommend this one.

My son went on a class trip to Hamburg and was very happy with the central location and clean rooms of this hostel. Unfortunately he left his washbag with his (quite expensive!) retainer in the ensuite bathroom. I have been trying for three days now to phone someone at the hostel to arrange and pay (!) for the return of this bag - to no avail.

The Hotel is really good! The rooms have a lot of space for large groups and are really clean! The hotel has lot of facilities to make the experience even better. The prices for a night are really cheap, ideal for a short trip I highly recommend this hotel because the relation quality/price is worth.

I stayed in this hostel for 2 days. The room is really clean, the breakfast was really good with many variety of foods. The thing that I like most from A&O Hostel is the staffs that are extremely friendly. Especially Mr. Dzikri, who was really helpful. I would recommend this Hostel. With the affordable price, I'm so satisfied with the service. Excellent!

Alright beds, location okay, desk staff awful not trained, not given sheets or any information walked into room no clean beds, had to change rooms, lifts was broken and breakfast was alright, lockers too small, kids running around abs calling us names and knocking on the doors will not be staying here again. Also why was one of the pillows so fluffy and the other flat!!

I stayed in this hotel for 2 nights. The rooms are quite good looking and clean. Although some people of the service and in general the management in this hotel are tragic. Only 1 person works behind the bar and at the reception (at the same time), so they are ques to both things all the time... Kitchen? Don't even get me started. It's dirty, it stinks, in the fridge you can find some rotten food. I wanted to put my food in it around 2am, but it was closed. So I asked a brown-haired woman in the reception to open it for me. She rudely denied my request and said that she has no key. I explained it to her, that what can we do instead, that my food will get bad. She said that she can't do anything about it. The next day is Sunday, so there are not many shops open.... terrible. A note would be enough to solve it!!!! If you close at particular time - make a note about it. If you don't have a note? The reception should have a key!!!! I am not recommending this place.

A simple and cheap hotel, but clean and the location is very strategic. When we arrived, we were greeted by very friendly staff, if I'm not mistaken his name is Dzikri. he explained about hamburg city and interesting places to visit and transportation to get there. The breakfast didn't have much choice, but it was enough for us.

Nice and functional rooms, clean. Some disturbance from the neighboring rooms, especially early in the morning and in the late evenings. Understandable partly as most of the guests are young, but I am not sure if it can be helped as the sound between the rooms connected by an outdoor space probably increased the volume even more. Long lines at the reception due to lack of staff. Otherwise helpful staff. Maybe because of rather high temperatures, the distance from the train station felt longer.

Nice hostel 24/7 open in good location but service is not good. We have bus at late night to return back and thought of staying in lounge for closing the room but they haven't accepted that.Lounge is completely empty and we are not even using any thing there. If it isn't cold outside we might have stayed at bus station. Atleast they have to concern as a human I felt.

I stayed here for two nights during a weekend away, it was very basic and straightforward. Room had a TV and bathroom. Checking in and out was straightforward enough. Food and drinks are available downstairs which is good. Overall cannot complain about my stay however heating wasn’t turned on.

  • 3/5 Gabriel G. 1 year ago on Google
It is very affordable and easy to check in and out. It is a hostel, which means that is cheap but without any luxuries. It is in fairly good location, near the station to get to the center, but not really close to the city center itself. It is very good for students, but I would not recommend it to families unless you want to go really cheap. At the lobby there are many games that you can play at a low price like billiard, foosball, air hockey or darts. There is also a small bar where you can take drinks. The staff is friendly and helpful, which is good taking into account the many people that come and go constantly. Now, regarding the room, you can find it clean though it looks a bit neglected. The windows sdo not isolate the noise even if you close them. The beds are comfortable. Regarding the bathroom, we found out that the sink was really clogged; also the shower does not offer much pressure but it regulates the temperature okay. All in all, it was not a bad experience, is good if you just need to stay one or a couple of nights there, bearing in mind that offers a very good price.

  • 4/5 Yusuf C. 2 years ago on Google
Affordable price. Easy check in and check out. Clean hostel with a nice lobby. Beds could better, probably they were used many times and lost their consistency. Double bedroom room had 2 single beds which always separates from each other and creates and uncomfortable feeling at night. If Hostel provides some kind of clippers to attach them I would be nice.

My friend and I (both f,21) stayed in a room with 3 men who were all older than 50. We didn't know that until late in the evening. Atmosphere was kinda tense bc of given situation. Rooms were not clean and we couldn't regulate the heat. Check out was at 11 am on Sunday but a service person (who was not fluent in either German nor English) rudely told us to leave around 10.30 am. Other than that the place is cheap (bedsheets & towels are not included). Location is very good tho.

4th time staying here and it was good, just as always. Staff looks like they hate their lives but are helpful nonetheless. Rooms are clean and the breakfast staff does a great job at keeping the place organized even when busy!

  • 3/5 Ya S. 2 years ago on Google
Noisy place with 24/7 queue at reception. Rooms are ok and clean, but no aircon and broken window blinds. Breakfast does not worth 7.90 eur they ask, but basically no one ever checked our breakfast cards. Just get downstairs at 10 and grab a coffee and banana for free. Check out is very early at 10, and for extra 10 eur you chan get a normal checkout at 2.p.m It is supposed to be cheap, but with all those little extras I would prefer a normal hotel next time.

  • 4/5 Dion M. 10 months ago on Google
Very nice rooms and nice people! There was a very, very busy lobby which was disturbing when we needed to check in, but apart from that, everything was perfect. I like the fact that there is a bar where you can get something to drink and a pooling table to play a few matches. I definitely destroyed a few of my friends at pooling! ;)

I am very pleased with my stay at this hotel. The room was very clean and comfortable, the staff were friendly and professional, and the customer service was excellent. The hotel facilities also met my expectations. Its location is strategic, close to major tourist attractions. My only suggestion is to enhance the breakfast menu variety. Overall, I highly recommend this hotel for a pleasant stay.

The hostel is a 5 minute walk from Berliner Tor station(10 minutes with heavy suitcases). The reception has a cozy vibe at night. However, I have to say that they gave me the bed sheet, blanket and pillow covers to put them on myself whereas others in the room who checked in before 3pm had their beds already fixed .The bed sheet they gave me was a nightmare to put it on especially when they give you the top bunk bed. Aside from that everything was nice and clean, the toilet has it's own sink which is convenient.
