👍 Trail is very well marked with diamonds painted on trees. I downloaded the course onto my Garmin beforehand. I ended up with a total of around 4 miles on the hike. Would have given a 5 star review if there was a toilet on-site. Hopefully that is something that will be added soon.

👍👍 Walked the woods trail through a springtime old growth forest. Undergrowth was popping with flowers and greenery. In just a few weeks the towering tree canopy will shade most of the forest floor. Beautiful large trees in their natural state in this never cut section of forest.

👍👍 Great place to hike in central IN. You have to enter Shades State Park and then take a right to get to the trail head. The trail is well marked and medium difficulty. There are a few stream crossings so be prepared to have wet feet. If you like plants, there are tons of beautiful forest interior...

👍👍 I remember these trails from my youth going here with my grandpa before he died over 10 years ago. I love the nature here with all the birds chirping and the wind through the beautiful trees. Lothlorien Nature Sanctuary
Nature preserve
👍👍 Welcome home! Lothlorien is a beautiful place, and a wonderful, supportive, communal environment. Festivals can get a little crowded, especially ELF Fest in the Spring. If you come, please respect that it is a spiritual place for many. We like to have fun, but the land is first and foremost a nature...

Red-tail Nature Preserve

👍👍 RedTail is a great land trust! Keep it up! This particular site has a small parking lot and a short loop trail. Nothing particularly noteworthy, other than protected land is a wonderful thing. Wide variety of the more typical birds. BC the loop is a bit short, we also walked across the road an...

Meltzer Woods

👍 Wonderful 1+ mile hike to see old trees possibly 400 years old. Experience what Indiana woods were like before the settlers. You might choose a day when conditions were dry for a few days. The path was muddy in places.

Fern Cliff Nature Preserve
Nature preserve
👍👍 This place is absolutely beautiful. It may be overgrown, but you can plainly see the quarry through the tree cover. The fern-covered walls are a sight to see, and I was lucky enough to catch icicles still clinging to the cliff wall. Gorgeous scenery, quiet, peaceful. Doggo-approved.
