Golden Dome Cave
Tourist attraction
ππ This was the first cave we visited in Lava Beds and it was a great introduction. Be aware that the ceiling in this cave gets low and requires you to stoop at times (watch your head as the ceiling is sharp in places). The golden color on the dome is really amazing when you get there.

Horse Camp
Campground
ππ Well worth the hike, this location not only has beautiful views of Mt Shasta peak and its surroundings, but it is an important piece of its history for almost a century (1922) and its well preserved. It has a natural spring, camping grounds and well taken care of toiletes (believe me, you will be gr...

Catacombs Cave
Tourist attraction
ππ You can go in and explore a bit without too much experience or gear besides a flashlight. The front section has high ceilings.
That said, I highly recommend bringing a helmet, knee pads, headlamp, and map for the ultimate caving experience. It was so fun exploring all the little nooks and crannies....

Bunny Flat Trailhead
Hiking area
ππ It offers two trails - Ski Bowl and Horse camp. Ski Bowl is higher in elevation and a longer hike. Beautiful, scenic views but it was hard to follow the trail because it was covered in snow still. If youβre feeling adventurous, Iβd recommend ski bowl but if not - Horse camp is your best option.

Valentine Cave
Tourist attraction
ππ A smaller cave to hike in when visiting the Lava Beds in Tulelake, Ca. There are a few caves you can explore and this one was very neat. It is like a giant circle when you go inside and it is very easy to walk through. As with the other caves, be aware of bats!

ππ We had such a wonderful experience here. Pam was a pleasure to talk to and hear about the local conditions.
The rooms were great too with everything we needed to make our trip comfortable.
They even allowed pets (specifically our cat) which we were so happy about. They do ask on a poster to not hav...

ππ McCloud Falls is amazing! Definitely worth the stop. The lower, middle, and upper have fantastic views. The water is cold, clear, and sounds amazing gushing over the boulders. The lower and upper sections are mostly paved and have nice picnic areas and facilities. The middle section is dirt and rock...

ππ Great view point for Mt. Shasta! There are few spots to view the big snow mountain and this is a very nice one. Just off the road, with plenty of parking, and facing the big mountain with gorgeous views and nice introduction. Highly recommend for a short stop and relax.

Captain Jack's Stronghold
Tourist attraction
ππ I love it here. I have visited many times. It is a place of solitude. Many visits here I never saw anyone but my family. There are many hiking trails and caves nearby. Also, there are petroglyphs here and there. If I stop and think about it I can smell the sweet smell of sage in late spring and hea...

Skull Cave
Tourist attraction
ππ A larger cave for exploring in the Lava Beds in Tulelake, Ca., this is definitely the coolest cave out there. Being so much bigger and offering more to venture through, you won't be disappointed with this paradigm. When you get to the end you can see where the ice floor begins which they have safel...

Mushpot Cave

ππ Amazing cave to explore in Lava Beds National Monument! The National Park Service has really done well with lighting up walkways and adding cool boards every few feet explaining all about the cave and life formations. Note that it does get cold the further down you go, so be sure to use gloves when...
