✅ It was the nice dinner experience today at Zak’s Dinner. We ordered Zak’s regular burger and Crispy Chicken Wrap. I must say the Crispy Chicken Wrap is ✅9/10 and the regular burger is ✅8/10. Overall very good experience. This restaurant has a very good reputation and we lived the staff’s behaviour also. Thank you Zak’s dine. Will visit again.

Great location. Good options for vegans. (Note that while they have vegan vegetarian options, they state that they are not a vegetarian kitchen). And you will have to pay extra for any substitutions. 😔 My favourite is the vegan breakfast burrito (with vegan eggs and vegan cheese). Big portion (would be nice to be able to order half portion to avoid food waste for some of us that have a small appetite). We went 4 times and the 3 last times we had to wait about 25/30 min for our dishes to arrive while other customers that arrived after us had their meals before us. Same things with the coffee fill up...should be done more frequently. Nobody paid attention to us on our last visit, after 25 min we had to call someone to have more coffee! Ordered the Beyond meat burger that stated beyond meat patty + vegan cheese, my burger came without the cheese when we asked the waiter he said it does not come with cheese....🤷‍♀️🤥 Friendly staff

As you walk into this cool retro looking restaurant, you are greeted by a red hot mustang. The entire place looked lively with colorful decor and energetic music. Another section of the restaurant has a beautifully renovated school bus, unfortunately it was full that day. My friends ordered a regular and Canadian burger while I went with my favorite egg, toast + sausage breakfast. It was a delicious brunch with lovely atmosphere. Next time I visit our capital I’m certainly coming back here!

The hostess guided me towards the bar, as I wanted to try a milkshake, my first milkshake ever. This was also my first time at Zak's. Once I got to the bar the bartender was a mix of busy, & engaged with his friends so the hostess mostly helped take my order, & make my milkshake while the bartender stepped in at the end, to complete the mixing process. The milkshake tasted amazing which is why I tipped 50%, which I dont think ive ever done before (tasty meals can make a bad day good). I was initially confused by the chaotic nature of the customer service, but these are coworkers who are clearly friends & fill in the gaps as their friends are otherwise focused, this is something that might seem to a customer at first like neglect, but it seems to work here. At the end I did get to sample the beer 🍺 that I'll order on my next visit, & if all goes well I'll change this from 4 stars to five at that time. *Went back for a late breakfast 😋 5 🌟

I’ve dined with Zak’s Diner multiple times. They are always nice meals, and filling. But I’m not sure if the French Toast Breakfast I ordered and its presentation is worth $18+

I tried a few things: boneless wings, poutine, and a chocolate milkshake. The food is meh, but it is a diner, so it's not like I expect the best food. But the milkshakes... phenomenal. The chocolate shake I had here was the first or second best I've had in my life. Definitely will be coming back for those

A perfect weekend breakfast spot. We were seated outside on a beautiful day. Service was great and the food was incredible. Such large portions for a very reasonable price. I loved every dish we ordered. My personal favorite is the eggs Florentine and it was perfect for my taste. Also enjoyed the milkshake!

Nice to have a Choice of indoor or patio seating. Remembering our order was an area of growth for our waitress. Despite writing it down, she got our order incorrect 3 times, asking us for sauces and sides and meat substitutes that did not go with the meals. Forgetting the names of the only beers on tap completely and not having any idea of what she finally brought us. Menu content was great, actual menus were stained and sticky. Food was brought out in reasonable time by friendly kitchen staff. Please train waiting staff and encourage sobriety and provide cleaner menus and we’ll look forward to writing better reviews.

Such a great vibe and great food. The host could've been a little more friendly, they seemed like they really didn't want to be there, but the rest if the team were positive and quick to get everything to us, and the place packed! We will be back.

I absolutely loved the nostalgic diner atmosphere! It was our first time experiencing an American diner, and it was truly enjoyable. The diner's design is awesome, capturing the essence of a classic diner perfectly. The concept of an all-day breakfast adds to the fun experience. The milkshakes were incredibly tasty, and I was delighted to discover they offered a lactose-free version as well. I tried the beyond meat burger, and it was delicious. 😋 Despite visiting on a busy Monday, the service remained fast and efficient. If you're looking for a delightful diner experience, this place is highly recommended!

Super first experience at Zak’s Diner last night for a midnight snack! There is a convenient parking garage across the street to make it easy peasy to get to. The service was speedy and the food was excellent! We were so excited about the milkshakes and they did not disappoint. The portions were great for the price, you get the milkshake glass and the metal cup full as well! See you again Zak’s Diner!

An excellent breakfast experience all around. A little bit of a delay in ordering however well worth the wait. My breakfast arrive exactly as I requested it to be cooked and was very delicious. I don’t think I was able to eat half of it the portions were so generous. I highly recommend this establishment for an outdoor patio breakfast or an indoor dining experience. Service is wonderful #localguide

This place is very cool. The staff is very courteous, professional, very friendly and the service is fast. The food is very good. The burgers for example, the meat is tender, well cooked but juicy. You obviously wanna try the onion rings and milkshakes... Enjoy !!!

Had the nachos and they were absolutely delicious! My cousins had the milkshake and they were surprised how much milkshake they got, they absolutely loved it too! I recommend this place. I will definitely come back in the future!

Excellent atmosphere and such a lovely place altogether. Id recommend :) the servers are busy but they really do their best and make you feel welcome. I loved my experience. Foods good and decently priced although it’s a little expensive for the diner but I believe the overall experience justifies the cost. So, in all fairness, they get it right on all counts :) a must try!

My friends and I wanted to do a little get together over the holidays and decided a diner would be best. We left full with no complaints besides not having enough room for dessert and having to eat at the Cantina instead since it was crowded but that's understandable since it's a busy restaurant. The waiter was absolutely incredible. He was patient with our large group and able to fulfill all our wacky demands. Definitely coming back!

We were on our way to another restaurant when we saw Zaks. My friend told me that they serve smoked meat sandwiches so having not had one in awhile, we decided to have dinner here instead. Our server was great. The food however was disappointing. The rye bread was toasted which kind of surprised me as I would have preferred that it wasn't. I wasn't given the option. The smoked meat was tasteless and slimy and I was disappointed in the quantity of meat in the sandwich. The fries tasted greasy and soggy. My friend ordered the smoked meat as well wirh onion rings and a milkshake. She was also disappointed in the sandwich and her onion rings were cold and greasy. It's too bad, we were really looking forward to having a good meal here. We should have stuck with our original plan and gone to the other restaurant.

Cool atmosphere, great service, delicious food. The eggs Benedict was excellent, and the café au lait very good as well. We ate in the bus section, which was fun.

Ahh Zak's, If you're looking for that 70's style diner you've found the place! The beauty of this place is you know what you're getting if you've ever been to one of these old school diners. I ordered the smoked salmon & eggs and asked for an alteration of scrambled eggs and we settled for an omelet on top with the hollandaise sauce. They give you a pretty decent portion and your meal comes with unlimited coffee/tea which is a godsend when you come in during the later 24hr schedule times and when hungover. The coffee is drip by the pot and is very reminiscent of home coffee or coffee from Bon's Off Broadway in Vancouver. The service was prompt and the food came soon after. Apparently they used to be open 24hrs 7 days a week which is crazy but I can imagine only helps solidify Zak's as a community staple. They are however open 24hrs on the weekends to help serve those hungry patrons at untimely hours or for those working those late shifts. I came one morning with my laptop to do some work and even though it was just me there was no problem with me taking a whole table as the restaurant wasn't busy. I had the pleasure of meeting Roger the manager and he was very nice, courteous to all my requests and patient with all my questions, thanks mate! In conclusion I'd say if you're in Ottawa and in need of some greasy hangover food or just want a late night bite during the weekends Zak's will be there waiting for you and I definitely recommend going!!!

Excellent Strawberry milkshake. Must try ! One milkshake is enough for two as the glass is way big. We ordered veggie Nachos they were good too.

Went to this diner for brunch (just a bit early for 2pm happy hours). Ordered a vegetarian burger, poutine, and milkshakes. Outstanding food, great quantity, just slightly a bit in the pricier end but would definitely recommend the butterscotch milkshake.

Went for lunch on a very busy summer day in 2023 and got seating as soon as we entered and the host was super friendly. She recommended the best options and the cheese burger was one of the best we've had. The milkshake was super thick but that was what we needed after walking around for a while.

Very good food. Prices are a bit higher than usual. Service is a little on the slow side but expected given how popular this place is. They carry Pepsi products for soda.

Loved the place! When we arrived there was a huge lineup but they were quick in seating everyone. The food was delicious Mexican food! We ordered Chimichanga, Tacos and Mango smoothie. Everything tasted really good but the only disappointment was their chicken, it was quiet rubbery and chewy. I would recommend this place if you are looking for a good hangout spot.

This place is amazing. Friendly staff and the service was excellent. Chicken Quesadilla is super tasty, you should try it with their signature milkshakes 🍨 Absolutely, we will visit this place again and again 😄😉

Great burgers and egg benedicts. Food was very tasty and portions were huge. Very friendly service. Would recommend to anyone looking to eat a diner style meal.

Definitely a place for comfort food. I love their vibrant atmosphere and friendly staff. If you visit, ask to sit at their Mexican side its super cute. I love their milkshakes they always serve 1 and half servings which is ideal if you’re a party of two. My favourite is their beyond burger its delicious.

We walked to Zak's Diner. It had an interesting placement like the front was in a semi closed offf street. Anyways we were a bit full so all we wanted to get was a shake. Unsure of what to get, we asked the waitress how the Maple Shake is. She said it is just a Vanilla Shake with Maple Syrup. We tried it and yes it definitely just tasted like a Vanilla Shake with Maple Syrup. It was alright but had to try the Maple stuff when in Canada eh? There was a ton of people getting shakes so that was the right move for sure.

Really nice diner! The food is very good but slightly overpriced for what you get. (understandable with inflation though). Milkshakes were good, soda float was not worth it. Got mainly a huge scoop of ice cream with a splash of soda.. Service was not the best. Our waitress took a very long time to serve us but I assume she must’ve been pretty busy. Good music and very nice decor! I recommend for a late night bite with friends.

Friend said we should try this place. Milk shake was so good and so was everyones food. There were 8 of us so we sat in 2 booths. our waitress was great and we had a wonderful time. Deep fried Mars bar was 😋

Went here for brunch. Great atmosphere and friendly service. Cool nostalgia vibes. Food is standard diner stuff - exactly what you would expect. Great spot to visit.

i have eaten at elgin road branch many times, and 2-3 times staying here. but this time I order again my favorite egg benedict. I was surprised because the hollandaise sauce has a very strange taste, a bit sour, pale and has a very thick texture. I was quite disappointed after my first meal of the day . But I won't let that stop me from going back to Zak's anywhere. 🙂

Solid spot for quick eats at decent quality. The smoked meat poutine was great, and the chocolate milkshake hit the spot. The waiter mentioned something about a "lead pie" and how they are to die for in Ottawa. We must have misheard him though, as we later couldn't find any reference to a lead pie on google, or even by asking other locals. I guess we'll never know now :(

  • 5/5 Kiet T. 9 months ago on Google
Came in for some poutine and it was the best! I especially liked the one with the sausages in it. The cheese was perfectly melted and the poutine was absolutely perfect.

We followed a recommendation to have breakfast at this stylised diner. The service was very good- friendly and timely. The interior was clean and tidy if a bit plain in parts. The food was decent quality and portion sizes for the price. Would happily visit again.

Smoked meat sandwich was really disappointing. Smoked meat tasted close to packed smoked meat in grocery stores. Marinated cucumbers and pickles were even below average. Caesar salad was good however. Have ordered it for to-go and the sandwich cooled down already while I ate it. But taste wise , it’s even not okay…
