Visited yesterday ordered the liver and my friend got the club sandwich. The prices are a bit high for the food. The taste was good the presentation of the liver was not great. The service was not great. I gave 3 stars because we liked the food! Paid for a drink and the liver 15% tip around 30$

I loved this place. It opens 24 hours per day, 7 days a week. We had lunch last time and I came back with my friend to have a breakfast. Waiter was so lovely and helpful. The breakfast he helped us choose was amazing 🤩 I am definitely coming back again and I highly recommend it 😍

Elgin Street Diner. What can I add about this beautiful gem! It's located Downtown on Elgin Street with bright lights on the outside and cozy set up on the inside. This diner is always buzzing with family, college kids, and seniors. They have ample seating, free wifi and it's open 24/7. No matter what time you go there the food is always fresh and staff is always friendly. I've had their burger, triple layer sandwich, 3 cheese omelette, and hot chocolate. Their side of fries is a whole meal in itself! Side of beans and baked potato is just so so good.. They also have a counter of homemade cakes which is really moist and heavenly. Totally recommend this place. Value for money- 5/5 Portion- 5/5 Hospitality- 5/5 Food- 5/5

Arrive hungry. This place is not messing around. This was delicious. I want to try so many things here. I will be back. Great value for great food. My stomach was not prepared for all this food. The stand out here is the service. We had a server (John)and he made us feel so taken care of and that we were his new best friends. Honestly this server could give a masterclass on service. The whole team at the ESD never leaves you wanting anything. Refills on water and coffee show up right on time without asking. Just an incredible experience. Worth the trip and worth every cent.

I've been here several times over my lifetime. I went here recently in September 2023. The food was quite good. The milkshake was amazing. Those beans too. Our server was not a great experience. I had told her I had a bad allergy to nuts and peanuts and she said she'd tell the kitchen about the allergy re: and whether or not the banana bread french toast had any nuts. General safety stuff you know? I was served what I ordered. It looked like it had walnuts in it. And it did. Thankfully I asked... "Hey are those nuts in the banana bread?" and she checked and said yes. So EpiPen use anaphylactic trip to the hospital averted 😅. You get used to double and triple checking these sorta things when you have an allergy like this. She apologized a few times thereafter but please be more careful in the future!!! I left a full tip afterwards out of habit, and wondered later if that was the right thing to do under the circumstances. Probably not. But whatever, the food was later corrected to something else without nuts. Previous experiences at this diner have been better, hence the higher rating.

My favourite poutine, by a long way. Lunch delivered effortlessly on a decade of nostalgia: rich and savoury gravy, generous cheese curds and delicious chips brandishing a slight burnt edge. Unlikely to leave here hungry. The friendly service staff rounding off a great experience. Hopefully won't have to wait another 10 years to return...

This diner is open 24 hours. We had a pleasant time from the moment we walked in and we were greeted by friendly faces. Our table and seats were comfy and our experience at the Elgin Street Diner improved even more when we were assigned Arthur as our server. Arthur was helpful, charming, funny and anticipated our needs even before we reached out to him. The food portions were good and our food tasted amazing. If you have the chance to stop by, you won't regret it!

Amazing experience. One of the finest authentic English Breakfast places I've had in Canada. Their Chicken Pot Pie and Shepard's Pie were beyond amazing. Not to mention their strawberry and banana milkshakes which were an absolute delight. Can't wait to come here again. I live in Montréal and I wish they had the same joint.

Family feel and customer service is top notch!! The friendliness from being sat down, during the meal and paying the bill. I highly recommend this diner. I finished my pancakes, it was so fluffy and delicious. Pay them a visit whenever your in the area, it’s just a 5 mins walk from the Canadian Museum of Nature and many consulate offices.

It was great!! Just what I needed. Haven't been there since the pandemic began and I was really craving a bowl of soup and a sandwich. Just as good as I remembered, and what made it even better was seeing some of the staff!!! Can't wait to go back again!💕

Went there a few weeks ago. Food was great, a little expensive but everything is expensive nowadays. Server wasn’t attentive but I don’t expect much from a diner to begin with. Overall a nice place for the food

They taken the concept of a classic Midwest comfort food diner and made it actually good! Nothing pretentious, just good food at a good price served by friendly folks. Chicken pot pie was pleasantly meaty, they aren't skimpy with the filling, and the pastry crust was delightfully flaky. The spice pallet in the shepherd's pie was unexpected but very appealing. The meatloaf was delicious and their gravy in particular was very flavorful, the sides that came with it were each great as well. I am generally a rice pudding fan and theirs was spectacular! While not necessarily my preferred genre, the peanut butter and chocolate dessert was very good as was the caramel carrot cheesecake.

Stopped in late nights after a few drinks. The food and place was great. So busy and fun inside with great food and fast service. They definitely know what they are doing at 2am and can pump out great dishes quickly. Food portions were a great size for the money and really hit the spot. Definitely a good spot for late night eats and I’ll be back next time I’m in town.

Waitstaff very accommodating and helpful. Prices were very reasonable and the portions were huge. Back for more! Service again was impeccable….keep up the great work! Milkshake was best we’ve had in a looooong time!!! Smoked meat was awesome once again! BLT nice and stacked! Crispy chicken sandwich oh so good! Salad nice and fresh Fries and gravy delicious Cannot wait to return!

Solid! We arrived late into Ottawa and this was one of the places that were open. It did not disappoint. Had a steady flow of customers around 1am. The service was friendly and attentive. The food was great! The gravy matched perfectly with the fries. Portions were generous. I say this is a must if in Ottawa!

It's a pleasant place for any time of the day. We came here in 2015 when it was already well established. We've returned 3 times subsequently. The food is typical diner food: it's good tasting. The service is quick, and the atmosphere vibrant. Their shakes, especially the chocolate banana, are worth a try (the restaurant and this particular shake were featured on the foodnetwork a few years ago). It can get busy: expect 15-20 minute waits, especially around breakfast & lunch on the weekends

Good experience for our first diner visit in Canada. Food was tasty, generous portions, but coffee was a let down. Service was excellent, everyone very friendly and food came out quickly. Overall paid 60 CAD (incl tax and tips) for 2 coffees and 2 breakfast meals.

Unreal 24 hour diner for breakfast, brunch, or late night food. Go early so you can get a table. A staple Ottawa spot that you bring out of town friends to for either post-bar food or next morning brunch.

It is one of life’s greatest joys to eat breakfast food outside of breakfast. I went fully controversial by ordering a ginger ale with it because dinner is a mindset not a set of physical set of characteristics. The egg French toast was phenomenal and the bread was something that I will genuinely try to replicate at home. A lovely experience 10/10

All around awesome experience! Waiter was fantastic! Patient and kind with my 5 y.o daughter. The food delicious, just as I remember from my college days 10 years ago. We didn't try them but they had milkshakes big enough to feed an army and desserts that made you want to lick the display case window!

For years, I've been told by several Ottawa residents that Elgin Street Diner is an institution of the National Capital Region. I finally made it there for brunch and wasn't disappointed. They have a whole lot of choices on the menu, and they've plussed up alot of classic breakfast items in their own unique way. Alot of the more exciting options are on the more expensive side ($15-$19 depending on what you're looking at), but the classic breakfast is still a very reasonable price ($12.99). You also definitely get what you pay for, the food was very good and the portions are very generous. The staff was very friendly, organized, and accommodating. The hosts kept a waiting list and were honest about wait times. Our waiter was handling a several tables with impressive efficiency, he was clearly experienced and knew what he was doing. I will say that it is a very tight space if the restaurant is full, which at 11:00am on a Sunday (prime brunch rush time) it was. So it felt crowded and noisy. However, this restaurant is open 24 hours a day, everyday, and I'll just pick a less crazy time to come next time. Because I'll definitely be back for more breakfast (and milkshakes)!

Came here on a recommendation of a friend who is a local Ottawa resident. Not disappointed. Had a meatloaf and chocolate milkshake. Good meatloaf, could be better if it had a bit more fat to it. The milkshake was good too...Can't go wrong with ice cream that is whipped up. The side veggies was nice...A piece of corn on the cob that was quite sweet along with some carrots that were not mushy and had good texture to it. A good recommendation from my friend.

Good and hearty breakfast, the eggs were cooked perfectly in the Benedict and the pepper bacon was delicious. The latke Benedict was $18.99 which I thought was a bit much, however the portions are huge to be fair. Overall our breakfast was satisfying and servers were very attentive!

Heard this place had really good poutine so we went to try it. We ordered a coffee on the side, a bit burnt but all good. The poutine we didn't really know what to get, so we asked the waitress what was the most popular. She said the Philly Cheesesteak Poutine so we got that one. I've only had Poutine like 5 times in Canada but this was hands down the best one. The gravy was thicker and glazier, in the past it's been super super runny but this was perfect consistency. The wait staff was super nice and helpful and overall this was a great place to go to. Nice first stop in Ottawa.

What a fantastic restaurant: Reliably delicious food; reliably awesome staff; and it doesn't get much more reliable than "We never close. Ever." No matter what you're craving, you can have it literally whenever you want, including build-your-own poutine, AND THEY CAN DELIVER. Free Wi-Fi when dine-in is allowed; you can order by phone call and pay on pick-up anytime else. Many thanks to all the amazing people keeping the lights on and the comfort food fryin' in one of my favourite spots in the city 💖

We have never had a bad meal at Elgin Street Diner. The service is consistently fast (which makes up for the occasional wait to get in) and the food is always good. It does get pretty busy, but you never feel rushed out of there. Definitely one of our favourite food spots in the city!

24 hours, camer here at 3am, good pancakes although I like them plain you can get it more interesting, great service loved everyone who came to our table, all the other guests were nice as well so the atmosphere was great, great milkashakes as well. Definitely coming here after going to the bar again.

  • 4/5 Lauren G. 8 months ago on Google
This is the best poutine I’ve ever tried! Unfortunately the price for it has become pretty expensive and every now and then the fries are over cooked (almost burnt and taste hard). The milkshakes are really good too. Would normally rate it 5 stars but I’d say 4 now because of this. Update: I’d rate a 3 out of 5 stars. Fries keep getting burnt and for $18 a poutine, it shouldn’t happen.

My girlfriend and I came here for the first time to have a great hangover breakfast cure. Although, I did not order the hangover breakfast, I did order the delicious Blue Plate Breakfast. It included eggs, bacon, ham, sausages, homemade toast, beans and nice big portion of their awesome poutine. My girlfriend ordered the eggs Benedict with tomato instead of ham, which she enjoyed. It was quite busy but made the diner atmosphere even better. The service was great and fast. I know this diner is legendary in Ottawa but for anyone who hasn’t tried it yet I highly recommend it.

Elgin street dinner is THE 24h dinner to go to in Ottawa. Great selection of dishes, great vibe and quick service. I’ve had the pleasure to be served by Paton more than once. It’s hard to find efficient and charismatic staff that works overnight. Paton mean’s warrior’s town. And that’s exactly what Paton from Elgin Street Diner is… A warrior…. A warrior of the night… A warrior of the diner. What a fine gentlemen and scholar! Truly charming fella. The rest of the staff is pretty good too. Everyone looks like they are always working and the kitchen is scary fast! Lovely joint to have in this sleepy town ❤️

I can't remember the name of the server that helped me but he was an angel! It might have been Jamie (young, handsome Asian gentleman)? He was one of the most professional servers I've ever encountered. He was kind, polite, attentive, patient. He let us modify our order with a smile on his face. He should get a raise and also teach every other server how it's done! :) Yay Elgin Street Diner!

Such a part of Ottawa. This awesome diner has been here for so long and there is a good reason why. Delicious down to earth food, friendly city service with wit and smiles!! Clean and retro but well maintained. Hard to find diners like this!! Family friendly, excellent for any hour of the day as it is open 24 hours!! Staff know the regulars by name and that is special in a big city .

Went here for lunch and was expecting a basic diner. I was pleasantly surprised with how wrong I was. Server was super good I think he was some sort of manager or the owner. We had vanilla oreo caramel milkshakes, some of the best we've ever had. We both had a different club sandwich. Absolutely no expense is missed with these portion sizes. The flavor of the food is on point. Not dissatisfied in the slightest. They're doing it right.
